    Beautiful, and that ending (4:50-5:00) was pure Vai. This guy is quickly rising in the ranks of my favorite modern guitarists. He's got the technique of 10 guitarists but refuses to just resort to pointless wanking, in other words, the song comes first. Nice.

    This tune is so pretty, and quite haunting - stays in your head long after listening to it. The tone he gets out of that guitar is just beautiful especially that sound like a creaking door that needs oiling

      This song is actually fairly simple and is based around only 2 chord progressions (with some alterations). It really gives you an idea of how much you can do with very little if you have a strong melody and play around with different layers on top of the same chords.
      The package with backing tracks is pretty great as well! I only wish it had tabs/some explanation for "Between You And Me" but oh well... maybe next time!

    I'm not into jazz or fusion-style music, but damn these guys are the ones taking technique and playing to the next level. Shawn Lane, Paul Wardingham, Guthrie Govan, Martin Miller... there's probably more that I'm not aware of. Came here from the Troy Grady video on his technique and it made my brain stop trying to take it all in.

    • @BradEnquist
      @BradEnquist 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found him through the Troy Grady video as well! I was shocked when I heard Troy talking about the index finger thumb motions because I've been working on that stuff for years and years trying to ingrain it in my experimenting to find the ultimate alternate picking technique. I can't imagine that he just naturally came up with that way since it feels so alien (it did to me anyway).
      I'm going to go check out Paul WArdingham now!

    Both Miller and Quayle are super smooth & super clean but that starts sounding sterile to me very quickly. IMO, their attack and touch are too consistent and predictable. As much as I appreciate the technique and vocabulary of great fusion type players, it gets old real quick. I need to hear and feel a player's passion and the music has to move me.
    There is a such thing as playing too perfectly. The music starts to lack heart. Then you just soon have a computer do it. For me, Eric Johnson is the perfect balance of great technique and deep passion. Eric can play very cleanly yet there's so much emotion in it. But hey, to each his own. If this gets you off, then I say Rock On!
