DWs are very versatile in my experience. Acoustic or Electronic, solid state or SET, new or vintage. They aren't picky about placement but do shine when well positioned. Good show

does that apply only to the upgraded versions of the DW6? or the stock DW6?

So great to see you guys put together a TH-cam channel like Schiit has done. Long time Zu fan. Stared with the DWs then moved up to the Omen Mk2s. These are fantastic speakers and Zu is a great company. Looking forward to more videos.
Love the "Come over to the Dark side Luke" moment there at the end. 👽✌️

Nice to see you guys on TH-cam discussing execution, mag coils, resistance, efficiency etc! My daughter "stole" my DW's and listens to different music - and loves them. Now, I gotta figure out how I can go upmarket with your product. Listen to Respighi in the fall in Ogden - Hey Gerrit - thanks for your excellent customer service. Keep crushing it.

In my living room (open to the 2nd floor and into the kitchen area) the DW has been fantastic. Very forgiving of the environment. Hits low enough that I removed my SVS sub. If you aren’t willing to reconfigure your room to be an audiophile listening space, the DW absolutely covers over a multitude of sins. I’m definitely tempted to order something higher end for a dedicated music room. Zu has something special worth considering.

Hi. Cool to see you guys discussing people's questions.
When the amp question came up, I thought you might mention the Firstwatt J2. I don't own one, but we've discussed it at RMAF, and Steve Guttenberg also has it as a reference. That would probably be my recommendation if someone asked me what to get.
I'm running my Zu Cubes on a refurbished Harmon Kardon Citation 19. It's a big iron amplifier from the early 1980's with easily 100 watts per channel. It's incredible overkill, but sounds quite good. It's so old that I'd never recommend it to anyone, but I also wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm running the Druids in my office on a Music Hall 35.2, which is a 70 watt per channel integrated. It's quite good as well.
I'll be here for every episode of this in the future.
    Cheers,
    Harley.

Excellent video chaps, informative and relaxed. I love the sound of Audion with my Zu speakers too!

Bought Omen DW's a year ago and hooked them up to a vintage Marantz 2230 receiver. Liked the sound so much I just bought a pair of Soul VI which do sound a bit cleaner and brighter. The fun is in the journey so looking forward to my next speaker discovery.

I think what the guy/question about classical music was really asking: can DW6 “handle” the transparency, soundstage separation, and dynamics generally associated with classical, particularly orchestral/symphonic.
In my personal experience w Omen, yes. The soundstage is sufficiently deep for my budget taste and the transparency & instrument separation is good, but the dynamics are always surprising, playing louder & deeper than my expectations.
Another really great value of DW is the ability to deliver dynamics & clarity at low-level late night listening AND the 12ohm load is one of the few, least expensive options for playing very nicely aka sounding HUGE with SET amps

Right, Greg was subbing on the Asia, Asia tour. Carl Palmer.... Pop-prog has always been convoluted.

I have a pair of DW's that spent a year in my fully carpeted & "soft" living room, and I loved them. Then I shipped them to our place in Mexico, which is typical Mexican construction of tile floors, and cement block plastered walls. A very "hard" environment. And they sound GREAT there too. I'm driving them with a $99 Lepai class-D amp (just to get started) and I'm pretty shocked how decent the system sounds. I'll ship a better amp down there at some point, but it really highlights Sean's point that the DW's are pleasers!! I'm spoiled tho, on the previous 1k price, and wondering if I want to go up the Zu food chain. I think I want a pair of Def's. (oh i get it.... they play so loud, they'll make you Def!)

My objection with low power amps is lack of strong bass. Low power amps, transistor or tube, produce soft bass. Perhaps some people are satisfied with it. In order to get good bass with class A, you need to spend a lot of money.

Impedance makes a huge difference with low power amps. I’ve been super Zurprised how deep bass can sound with 12-16ohm even w just a 5 watt SET amp

I'm seriously considering purchasing the DW6. I'm wondering is there a noticeable difference in sound between the base,Superfly and Supreme?

I bought the dws with a few upgrades in ‘13 for about 1000.00 what justifies the huge price hike for the DW6? The entry into the Zu family is harder then before. I decided on mine over the Tektons and I like them but it would be nice to have a more reasonable entry point.

So we learned about the DW6 but truly did not get a clear answer on the Union 6. If we have a “bad” room, can’t pull them into the room 7 feet should and we don’t have the perfect amp for them should we avoid the union 6?

Exactly! This was precisely the question I wanted answered, and nope 🙂‍↔️
