Spent 11 Days in Osaka mid July on. 35 degrees and humid. Just like Brisbane at Christmas. Had a great time. Even lost some weight. Stay hydrated take aircon breaks regularly, eat sensibly, don’t worry about being a sweaty mess and enjoy yourself… but saying that …. I won’t be back again in summer.
Yeah I did not take any breaks and the temp was at 43c during the heatwave! Lesson definitely learned, will be taking aircon and electrolyte breaks from now 😂
I was in Japan mid July to early August and I understood they had a decent summer but wasn’t prepared for tropical monsoon. 35C-37C every day with humidity. The important thing is drink lots of water, Pocari sweat (or equivalent) and iced green tea.
Absolutely! The insane humidity makes it all so much worse. Pocari/aquarius/salty lichi drinks for electrolytes and a 2 liter of iced tea is recommended (and what I should've done lol)
In europe it's starting to get crazy lvl heat as well since a couple of years and it's getting worse and worse. The extreme heatwave where you can't work out? Some summer we have those as well, so yeah, I know what these feel like. I most stay indoors and drink plenty, the worst part is at night, since it remains hot and most euro homes don't use airco. If for some reason, I was in Japan for Obon, here's what I would do: take a car or public transport and go somewhere in smaller village, somewhere in the mountains with rivers and forests, it's less packed, forest keep you cooler, I don't know if you can chill in the river in Japan, but I do it here.
I remember having a 'tropical night' when I visited Austria in a traditional lodging that had no aircondition or fan. Absolutely brutal night. In Norway where I'm from, it's unheard of to have an aircondition as you just open the windows to get the breeze in! Chilling by a lake is a good idea!
Yep, spot on with your, and the other comments. I've just returned this morning from 2 weeks travelling from South to North, and as an Australian I can confirm that it was just too bloody hot and humid. It really did sap my energy and desire to get and do as much as I'd planned. Throw in running from the Typhoon, and then stuck in a plane on the Haneda tarmac in last night's Tokyo downpour - I definitely won't be back mid-summer. Last year in late September was much better weather. BTW - the North (Hokkaido) is much more tolerable in the hotter weather.
Im on my last day of 2 weeks looking at areas to live when I move here in a few months. Can confirm, summer humidity is brutal and after a few hours you are completely drained. It's too difficult just to wander around 🤣
Recently visited for the second time from July to August for 8 days and I highly recommend you do no go during the summer months if you can avoid it. We basically sweated non-stop from the time we left the hotel in the morning until we came back at night. It limits the amount of total fun/experiences you can have. I thought I was tough but I will never go during the summer again. Stick to spring or the fall and you won't regret it. Also, I enjoy the fun and entertaining videos. Thank you sir!
It really does, and it pushes you to stay inside in aircon during the hottest hours and lets you go out at night which limits a lot! Thanks for watching!
Glad you're alright. The heat is no joke. I live in the southern US. I basically hibernate until fall. Doing anything outside requires drinking tons of water, and then I have to piss every 20 mins., so, fuck that. lol
Thanks man! Yeah, it's crazy. This summer specifically with the heatwave and insane humidity just calls for staying inside. Summer part 2 is coming in the end of September with bearable temps to enjoy the outdoors!
Absolutely brutal! For reference, since you're a local to Osaka, my walking route in the midst of the heatwave was: Namba, Shiomibashi, Amerikamura, the length of Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi, Shinsaibashi higashi (walking on the way to Osaka castle, but canceling), then halfway up to Umeda before I got struck by the sun😂
It's not every years. Typhoons go to japan in that term. When they approach or land , many transportations will stop. So tourists have to change their plans in those situations. If the tourists don't know well about places they are, it's very difficult to find hotels and alternative transportations.
I remember being in Kyoto few years ago in summer, and like 3min after stepping outside I felt sweat running down, throat getting dry etc. I literally ran into the next convenient store to get some cold tee🙃 (although after listening to this vid running seems to have been the wrong move?)
Sounds more like Obon is designed to make more ghosts might need to change the day to end of September. Getting excited going to visit at the end of September thanks for the B-roll.
That sounds awful, glad you're doing better now. I keep hearing don't come to Japan in summer but as my children approach school age, it might be the only time I can take a longer trip without getting slapped with truancy reports :/ Perhaps I can time it all to just hang up in Hokkaido the whole time :)
Tons better now, but it was a crazy experience and a lesson learned! I think Tokyo and southwest of Tokyo has it the worst during peak summer. Sendai and up should be enjoyable even during summer, at least according to the heatmap I was looking at whole recovering! Never longed for Hokkaido more 😂
It's so funny how many westerners on here are complaining about visiting Japan in summer. There are 1 million+ videos on TH-cam telling you not to visit Japan in summer. Suffer in ya jocks.😂

That was my impression of Japanese summer weather, Queensland in January.

Exactly! I dream of moving to Hokkaido some day, as the summers are nice and the brutal winters are just like home!

It's normally crazy, and the mid August heatwave in kansai sure didn't help 😂

Glad you survived! On your shrine will be your silver and golden TH-cam awards :)
Luckily! That would be cool! And a screen that's on 24/7 loudly repeating all my videos to the dismay of family who needs to come and make offerings!
Nice video man! Still kinda weird seeing Just Another Japan Channel and not GGC :D
Thanks my dude! Haha, it is what it is 😂

Damn 43°C and getting a heatstroke sound pretty shit lol but glad youre healthy and uploadind videos again! Wish you best of luck
Yeah it was pretty bad, but I'm more salty about missing out on the content I wanted to make! Back on track, and liveable temps coming soon!
I hope you get your revenge but stay healthy doing so :D, glad you are doing better now!
Thank you! Yeah, lesson learned lol. Going back with a vengeance asap!
I live smack in the middle of Osaka and i was convinced I was gonna die these last few weeks. Thankfully it's ever so slightly cooler this week 🫠

Yeah! I see with the typhoon coming in now in a few days, a lot of people will have issues in Kanto!

It's crazy during these heatwaves! Running is definitely not as good an option as chilling somewhere that's airconditioned!
Sounds more like Obon is designed to make more ghosts might need to change the day to end of September. Getting excited going to visit at the end of September thanks for the B-roll.
Hahaha, maybe you're onto something there! I was definitely humbled, but at least I dodged getting isekaied by the sun. For now.

That's some dedication for YT footage! ☺️👍
Level 500 if you ask me. Maybe you're becoming too Japanese. 😁
I was forgetting that my DNA is coded for nice breezy 24c summers in Norway! 😂
Hvilken tid på året er det best å besøke Japan? Vil gjerne unngå verste perioden med tanke på andre turister og varme / kulde
Mars er bra rett før turistrushet for sakurablomstringen! Slutten av oktober er min favoritt!
Tusen takk! Flott kanal, keep it up
You're welcome (?)
😂😂

Well in this particular case, there was a heatwave with people dying. And myself getting a heatstroke. So, warranted video imo 😂
No one enjoys VB :D
😂😂 Not the VB Longneck!
