Taiwan Travel Vlog | Day 2: Shifen Old Street and Jiufen Old Street

Spirited Away in New Taipei: Flying Lanterns at Shifen Old Street and One-Night Stay at Jiufen
It's our second day in Taiwan and we started the video at our awesome hotel. We love Roaders hotel (www.agoda.com/?ds=Iya7jkvP777...) for their free arcade, free photo booth and free food :)
We left Taipei City and went to New Taipei City. We rode Bus 965 from Ximending to Jiufen. It took us less than an hour and a half to get there.
It was raining a bit when we got to Jiufen, luckily it didn't last long. Upon entering Jiufen Old Street, you will hear nostalgic tunes from the ocarina shop.
We booked a one-night-stay at Chiu Chint Dint Inn (www.agoda.com/chiu-chunt-dint...) and after dropping our bags at the B&B, we headed to Shifen. We waited at the wrong terminal for 37 minutes, then waited for another 9 minutes for the correct bus at the correct terminal. We took the bus going to Ruifang Station and went to the Pingxi Line train station. At Ruifang Station , we missed the train going to Shifen by 3 minutes. We waited an hour for the next bus, which was fine since we were also able to do some train watching. The train ride from Ruifang to Shifen is more or less 30 minutes. Aside from the lanterns, we're also excited for the food that Shifen offers. We ate grilled chicken stuffed with rice for our first meal. Ice cream, peanuts, and coriander rolled in a wrap for desserts. We also ordered xiaolongbao :D
We chose a purple sky lantern and wrote our wishes. Good luck to our hopes and dreams!
We rode a taxi to return to Jiufen. The Miyazaki love is everywhere at Jiufen Old Street. A cat-filled shop caught our attention. It turned out to be Henry Cats & Friends ( / henrycatsfriends ) by Taiwanese artist Henry Lee. We were fortunate to see
After some souvenir shopping, we checked in at our room to rest for a bit. We did a quick room tour. Our one-night stay at Chiu Chunt Dint Inn cost us TWD 3,230.04. It's very nice and we love it!
We went back outside for dinner. Some skewers for appetizer then, I was able to convince the girls to try the stinky tofu. First time in Taiwan, so we might as well try it. I'm not a fan of soft tofu since I prefer it to be fried, but the stinky tofu that we ordered wasn't too shabby. For dessert, we tried Tiramisu Mochi and Strawberry Tiramisu Mochi. After eating, we went on an arcade that seems operational for 24 hours without any operator.
We looked for a spot to take some Spirited Away-inspired photos. Afterwards, we went to A-mei tea house (www.ameiteahouse.com/) to have some Alishan Oolong tea. The blend that the tea master gave us was superb, however, we didn't remember the whole procedure that he explained to us :D We ended the day by buying some snacks at 7-Eleven.
We're glad that we decided to spend one night at Jiufen. It has a more magical vibe at night with all the lanterns. You're able to take better photos too since there's less people. Although we didn't know that they turn them off at 9:30PM. This day was a good cultural exploration around New Taipei
and we barely scratched the surface. I hope that we would be able to explore it more in the future.
