I always thought that Sonic should be able to breathe underwater when he's Super Sonic.
In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Hyper Sonic can.

You have to go to no save mode on the mobile remake than go to level select and chose 7 emeralds than collect them all
I remember watching this when covid was big and before I’ve watched how this video evolved over the years and it’s still my favorite to come back too
i never thought this was possible in the original Sonic that he could morph itno super sonic cuz i never got all chaos emeralds BUT yeah the theme and songs to this game.......brings back so many memories.......good ol 90s
Broo how did you do this on no save mode? I know it's the only way possible but still. Getting a single chaos emerald is difficult, just imagine getting all 7. Mad respect for being able to do it man.

I genuinely want to know what was going through the developers heads when they made the special stages
If I had to guess, blue fish, green birds and peppermint candy. All in a vision that occurred after a long night of binge drinking when they laid down in bed and the world started spinning.
See the fact that Sonic wasn't able to turn super in the first game, but he knew how to harness the power if the chaos emeralds always led me to suggest Super Sonic came first, not Super Saian Goku. It was established that he knew how to become Super, but failed at the end of the game because of the lack of the seventh, it was until Sonic 2 where he was able to get the 7th one and now turn Super
This doesn't happen in the original, but at least the mobile people are nice enough to make Sonic become Super Sonic by adding the missing Emerald.

I once pulled this one off, in a no save run ( because there is no other way to do it. ) It was so hard, but so satisfying...
Go to debug mode ( if you know How) and put in the code in the sound test 4 1 2 6 and join anything and get the rings past 50 i think

What I've noticed is that the Chaos Emeralds were recolored to look like the modern ones. Sonic 1 was missing one and Sonic 2 and CD (Time stone) were colored wrong. Sonic 3 was the first game with the right colors.
I don't get what you mean, "right colors." These games came before the, "modern ones", thus, these were the official colors until they changed them in the future. And the color of the time stones don't matter because the time stones aren't Chaos Emeralds.

I will never understand why SEGA didn't have Christian Whitehead port this and the enhanced Sonic 2 to modern consoles and PC. They are *THE* definitive versions of those games - they play just like the originals, have widescreen support, and things not in the original games. Come on, SEGA, you can easily make a little extra cash that way!

But with Sonic Origins coming soon, it looks like the Christian Whitehead ports of Sonic 1 & 2 are being used due to the Widescreen and the 2013 visible on the title screen.

To play super Sonic in iOS, You must give the sound code 04, 01, 02, 06 and then put emeraldsmax to 7 and then when you collected 50 rings, double tap your jump button and then you are supersonic.

SolidSonicTH Super Sonic has red eyes, the only reason why super sonic has black eyes here is because it’s using the sonic 1 and 2 sprites.
Bluerious That's Modern Super Sonic who has the red eyes, in Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) Classic Sonic has green eyes in Super/Hyper forms

Alot of people are trying to tell me that super sonic wasn't in the original sega game but no, I remember getting all those damn emeralds and being able to go super sonic. There was some kind of code to it even back then. I don't remember it now but I do remember being able to go super sonic of the original game for the sega genesis.
But It wasn't, super Sonic First appearence was in Sonic 2, super Sonic in Sonic 1 is only possible with rom hacks or the 2013 port
i had no idea sonic could become super in the 1st game, it was normally a cheat on the sound menu for sonic 2
Super Sonic is only in the mobile version of Sonic 1, and it can only be unlocked with a cheat code.

How do you get the 7th one is it by 50 rings or 90 rings because I got all 6 and when I got to the end of star light 1 I had 60 rings but no huge ring came

LOL Thanks. But what you saw was my 4th attempt and some fancy editing. If you screw up, the mobile version actually lets you retry Special Stages if you pause the game and restart before it completely transitions to the clear screen.
They should've used the Super Sonic theme from STH2.

I'm sad the 7th Emerald and 7th bonus stage doesn't exist on my steam copy of this game, however the steam version allows mods like the "MegaMix" one, where you can play as 5 characters and unlock super forms in that mod.
Also, steam version alows save states so at least we don't have to play this classic in one sitting.

1. It’s a joke based on Shadow’s line in Shadow the Hedgehog.
2. If you can’t handle swearing, the internet is going to annoy you a LOT.
When i just know if you want to be super sonic. It was only in debug mod only... I train so much to get super sonic when i was a kid but after knowing the fact. I felt hurted... But it's ok tho cus now that i want is to completed sonic the hedgehog again.

I figure with modern tech it's easy to modify these old games... all while making it all extremely HD... It used to be that fanmade versions were pixelated but it's not the case anymore...
This should've been enabled by default or an option, not some code. Sonic 1 now feels incomplete without 7 Emeralds and Super Sonic.
There is a moded version that lets you do this to feel more complete

White Katana No, I just did the level select code. You can add the 7th Emerald under the level select menu. You still have to go through the game and earn them though.

Yeah, you need to be in No Save Mode in order to activate the stage select.

Yes. I used a program called Bluestacks. But it links to your Google Play account, so the copy I played was legally purchased.
