This video needs to go viral because the founder of this style of cutting hair gets very aggressive when questioned by customers whose hair has been damaged by this technique. I always wondered why all of their customers hair was always the same length.

@@GaDiva769 Yes, if you listen to Aelease explain it, her method came out of those curl-cutting classes she took from 2011 to present. She just developed it for kinky hair because she said she realized that kinky curly hair fell differently on the head than looser curls. And what is not said here, is that curly cuts are for people who wear their hair curly most if not all of the time. Because if you always wear your hair curly, why do you need to blow it out for maintenance? For it to fit straight hair standards (being even all the way around) when you are not wearing it that way most of the time. I've always been able to see my unhealthy ends with my hair curly. Especially when it's wet. Damaged curls don't curl the same. But that's just me🤷‍♀.

I’m not even a stylist, but I had to blow dry my hair straight and cut it myself in order to fix my hair after getting a curly cut. My ends were so uneven and split and got so tangly at the ends as a result of the curly cut. I’m glad awareness is being spread about these cuts.

A family friend and stylist told me that curly cuts are something she expects from people at home, cutting their own hair, but not from a trained stylist. She said if you wanted to shape your hair, but lacked the skill set, you might approach shaping your hair like pruning shrubs, except our hair isn't a literal bush.
When she put it that way, it started making more sense to me. I'm glad you made this video. You put the final nail in the coffin against curly cuts on MY hair.

I big chopped and found BGC right after. So I got my first curly cut on new hair growth in 2019. After getting regular curly cuts for almost 4 years my hair growth was stagnant and my strands compromised. Curly cutting seemed like such a paradigm shift and I was excited to learn something new and to be in a stylists’ chair again. My ends are chewed up but I’m slowing cutting them off on blown out hair. I’ve had two straight cuts this year and my hair is on the mend.

I literally told someone curly cuts and the whole BGC was a gimmick. Because those women looked like us we felt more comfortable trusting them and this whole curly cut stuff. My hair was hydrated and thriving when I was following your techniques on my second deployment.
When I got back and started doing that curly cut stuff I had to big chop. I am telling everyone now about my experience on my TH-cam and how you should blow the hair out to see what is really going on.

Since people are chiming-in about BGC, I guess I’ll add my 2-3 cents. (Lol) I never followed nor listened to anything that BGC touted. I felt that they exploited (and capitalized) on the mindset that kinkier textured hair is so different (i.e. deficient) that it has to be cut this way, and you can’t use these products, blah blah blah. Every time I saw a BGC cut, I knew what it was before it was confirmed; heavy hair, blunt lines, no movement in the curls, etc. If you want to see the potential of hair of an African lineage, check out the brothers and sisters in Brazil. They do hair well without assigning negative classifications or restrictions. Moral of the story if you want to win at natural hair: Learn the science then perfect your technique. That’s it…that’s the silver bullet.

I agree. Some of us have been natural for almost 30 years, and we've been getting our natural hair cut for 30 years. Now, that doesn't mean I haven't had a bad haircut or two. But folks have successfully cut my hair wet and dry. As long as you don't put too much tension on a wet haircut and account for the three or four curl patterns that I have, everything should be fine. I do think they can do a precise cut on wet hair and then clean it up when it's dry. The thing that really gets me is the price.

After that final almost $200 curly curl cut in about March 2023, i decided to wash and condition my hair but it was sooo hard detangle. After a cut , i expect to be able to run my fingers through my head which wasn't the case. I was so frustrated and desperate,I ordered a pair of shears that same day. As soon as the shears arrived, i cut my hair using sections. After that amateur cut, my hair began to thicken.. Needless to say, not going to that stylist anymore.

I have tried many of the gimmick cuts (Rezo, Deva cut, wet "curl-by-curl", and other forms), and those cuts to me are for people who ONLY care about shape. I'm just shy of 2yrs into BGC and have only experienced legnth retention, less breakage than ever, and my hair is fast and easy to style w/ hardly any day2day upkeep between sets.. I've tried various methods over the decades I've been natural, none working as well as BGC.. Or least how it was taught to me by the stylist I've partnered with for my head of hair.. But I do totally agree, there is absolutely no reason to get a curly cut or follow BGC if you don't plan on wearing your naturally kinky/coily hair.. I couldn't imagine following my current regimen if I didnt wash and reset at least once a week, if I ever flat ironed my hair, or wore styles besides my simple wash and go set.. I truly don't think my hair care methods would work in those instances.. I tell everyone I know to partner with a stylist that performs the hair styles that they want to have done on their hair.. But to see a stylist that specializes in a style that you don't intend to wear at least 80-90% of the time doesn't make much sense.. Seeing and partnering with my stylist long term was what made the difference, I don't think it was BGC persay but more so the tecniques I now use work best for my head of hair.. And just so happens to be BGC.. I hope that makes sense to folks, I said all that to say to each their own, what works best for tour head of hair is out there.. But to get there faster finding that partnership is major key..❤

I also spend far less money than I ever have on my hair.. So idk where you're getting that folks are being ripped off with pricing.. My cuts cost the same as getting a cut with any other stylist, about $80 (shampoo, style, cut) every 3-4months and my 5 products (shampoo, moisture shampoo, conditioner, mousse, gel) are purchased at about the same rate and total about $80 total as well.. In comparison to the $300+ I was spending every 4-6wks for an install, plus HUNDREDS on products for both my natural hair and then my installed hair because nothing truly ever "worked" it seemed.. I do not miss it taking a full day to redo my hair.. I honestly don't even think I could sit for no 3-4hr appointment again at this point.. My weekly reset is about 1.5hrs to wash, style, and set under the hooded dryer.. I have shake and go hair the rest of the week, just having to put a bonnet on to workout, shower, and sleep.. My sister who has looser curls and my cousin who has tighter coils than me, have both seen a difference in their hair as well.. Who knows, could be my stylist is just that good at teaching how to understand and cuts or what have you.. But I can only speak on the experiences around me.. And regardless of folks feelings about BGC ideology, partnering with a stylist in their network changed mine my sisters and cousins hair to the best state it's ever been.. I truly feel EVERYONE should partner with a professional to truly learn their hair.. Thats going to always be my take away based off mine and those around me experiences..

I've had curly cuts, which means not only cutting each curl separately but also it has to be dry and stylized. 1) Cut the hair wet. Just do it longer you would do a straight hair. 2) Each curl will curl differently every time the hair is stylized. So, that cut may look ok until you stylize the hair again. Then, a lot of ringlets will be out of place.
    3) If you blow dry your hair ocassionally, prepare yourself to be dismayed for the mess the hair is.
    Personally, I prefer wet cuts.
Another thing is the no poo bs. Despite being a chemistry and having amazing curly hair for 38 years using sulfates and silicones I fell for the hype of the no poo. For 7 years I did it for the promises of great hair and use of better products.
Well. My hair went from 3a/3b, curling from the roots, very shine, normal to oily, dense and medium/thick to a 2b/2c/3a texture with parts literally straight, dry, opaque, porous, thinner and the worst of all. The fall.
My friends were asking me if or why I was straightening my hair by the end of those 7 years.
By the time I said enough, I received a female baldness diagnosis from the doctor that didn't find anything wrong with me.
If not for a coincidence after I decided to analyze my own hair routine and a youtube search to see if others had the same problem as me, I'd have gone bald while being no poo.
My scalp was so destroyed I couldn't do anything for a time but use detox shampoo. Later, I used Nioxin and Redken extreme, which is expensive, but has no oil/butters as my hair didn't like these things at the time.
I spent some coin to get it back during these last 4 years to recover it.
How many are having the same problem and thinking it is them, their health or the products they are using? How many don't have the money to recover their hair?
I kept changing brands so I'd not leave it behind. Fortunately, I went back to sulfates and silicones and all the other bad stuff and my hair is thriving.
It was a cult and I didn't realize I was in one.

I have 2B/2C curly hair and only really hated haircuts that were curly cuts. This was my second one. The first one made my hair look like a hedge. That was years ago. I tried another one out in January, same problems. Uneven, not all the dead hair cut out, frizzy hair... it's so uneven that I have a chunk of short hair growing out of my left temple. Sorry, but people are stupid these days. I never listened to that nonsense of a curly cut. I just go to a hairdresser and i tell her that i want to cut all of the split ends of my curly hair. And she cuts it wet/damp. She cuts every strand. And only the necessary length. She asks a normal price, which is suitable for cutting ends.(28euro) No crazy prices like most hairdresser ask these days. The world is gone mad.And i think that the curly cut is also a way to scam people. So they can ask 100euro(i live in Europe) for just cutting half of hair. Just cutting ends doesn't excist anymore. You have to do a wash, dry and cut treatment. So they can cash.( 120euro for example) but i don't fall for that crap. When i hear that kind of treatments and prices, i search further. Nobody is going to force me into a treatment i don't want. I will search till i find an old school hairdresser who works how they should work. Like back in the days, just cutting and normal prices. No bullshit.

I personally visited the stylist based in Chicago and was very happy with my results and hair growth afterward. My hair was the longest it has ever been and grew into the shape beautifully. She is extremely talented with a pair of shears. I had no breakage issues either. But her attitude is nasty, and I no longer support them. And this is where I think the problem lies, I had a completely different experience with the person she trained and dealt with all the issues other ppl say about BGC. If their online personas are any indication I doubt they are training their people well or creating an environment for ppl to learn. The lady I went to was no good and it was such a downgrade from the experience I had with the main stylist.
On a separate note what do you mean BGC doesn't account for hair texture? Anyone who has dealt when them has it drilled that depending on their texture and hair traits they'd want a different product combination for wash n gos (topper gels, anyone?) and that certain shapes may not be attainable. Have you looked into their processes throughly before making this video? Of course if you want to wear your hair curly more often than straight, why wouldn't you prioritize the shape of your hair when curly? It's like getting bangs and complaining about not being able to do a slicked back bun easily. Straight cuts done in a wash and go look trash. I do think it's possible to have healthy hair with a BGC cut but its very dependent on the stylist. I think this method may have a high skill level needed for mastery. I've been on both ends of a great problem free BGC cut and one that was a complete mess.

I feel the beauty industry is biased and potentially racist as well. There’s absolutely no reason anyone should be paying $350 “starting” for a cut. They try to shame you immediately when you want specifics of price. Nobody can land on a price but it’s always significantly more than the quoted starting price. The entire industry shames all curly clients who would ever dare mention cost. Then they gaslight and bully through social media threads to make it out to seem like all the curly clients are out of their mind and the obvious problem as if who wouldn’t expect to take out a loan in order to get a hair trim. Silly women thinking they can get away with only paying 150 bucks for the blow dryer to fart on their head.

    You need your "licence" revoked.
Shaping, and trimming ends are 2 different things.
You shape hair in the way you most wear it ... curly hair tends to coil differently throughout the head for most people ... therefore shaping curly hair whilst straightened will lead to uneveness.
If I were you and wanted to keep my "licence", I would say: trim curly hair straightened first, wash it back to curliness then shape it (if that's how one tends to wear the hair ... curly).
Also "cutting curly" is not "going curl by curl" (that would be a method amongst many) ... there are many ways to "cut/shape curly" ... in similar fashion to "straight cuts"
