I really wish beautiful architecture was a priority here in North America (I'm in Canada). Thoughtful, ornate, right down to the park benches and street lights. This trip looked marvelous.
Granada is defo my favourite city in Spain. You should do Transnevada, they designed different options to do shorter loops but I would recommend doing a complete loop around the Sierra Nevada
As a photographer I would lose my freakin mind if I rode here!.... lol... would have to stop every 5 feet for a photo! Would drive my husband crazy, no doubt!
Russ, Laura, that was fantastic; the Alhambra is the only one of the main moorish sites I haven't yet been to. You should try Cordoba.. but if you want a real adventure head to the Basque Country. We loved Vitoria, Gastiz. The architecture in Bilbao, the Guggenheim, is fantastic.
This video came at the perfect time! We are planning our vacation to Andalusia in April. We'll be visiting Madrid, Seville, Granada, Córdoba, and finishing in Barcelona. I'm hoping to rent a bike for a ride in Granada. We'll be taking the train between cities and staying in AirBnBs. But, we will be staying at the Washington Irving in Granda. I plan to search out the bike shops in each stop. We've had this trip in our sights since our stop in Barcelona years ago. Thanks for all the great tips!
Just a tip, depending on where you're headed to or where you're coming from, train service to/from Granada runs rather infrequently and can be quite expensive. The bus (including premium and first class options) is sometimes a better alternative.
The bike shop mentioned in the video, La Estacion is fantastic. I'd highly recommend them. Super friendly and welcoming owners, with a lot of knowledge 👌🏼 I've hired from them multiple times and have taken others there, too, after their bikes didn't arrive on the flight they were on!
An awesome guide, many thanks. It's so refreshing to have an alternative view of what can be a very predictable tourist experience. Keep up the outstanding work you do. If you get the opportunity, check out the UK for historical rides like the Marches and Castles.
Min 13: yeah, sometimes your Brompton just becomes a walking buddy 😂. We had the same "problem" as we stood at the Midlevels in Hongkong for the first time in this area: easy and fun to get down into Central, LOADS of stairs to get back up again 😅😅
Phenomenal video. Funny that today I was doing Spanish written exercises with my 15 years old daughter and the text was set in Granada, witch prompted some researches . Didn’t know what Alhambra Los Angeles was based on.
They can go on but depending on what train it is, depends on how you need to go about getting them on. In England for example, some trains you have to make a reservation in advance (for one of only four spots), others you have to just turn up and hope to get one of two spots. The design of the bike racks can be terribly small. Some are in tiny cupboards which are supposed to fit two bikes - this would probably be fine if it were two road bikes, but very difficult when it's anything bigger or with luggage. One also needs to be agile enough to lift their bike upright and hook their wheel in place, which can be absolute nightmare with larger tyres. You also sometimes discover someone else's bike in your spot.. ..and in England you try your very best to not leave your bike out of your sight! ..and there's no way I'd be leaving a Brompton in a luggage rack (without attaching it to something). People often steal full sized bikes from the trains here. I have a friend it happened to. He looked out of the window as the train pulled off and there was a guy walking away with his bike!
@@PHope1111 In Denmark we have cars dedicated to bikes; ( on the city trains for free) and on the longer journeys a few dedicated spaces for bikes, that will also fit a bike packed with gear. So we are spoiled here, in that regard.
Ahora hazme un short en Español Russ. Ya tienes lo suficiente grabado para narrarnos algo a ver. Just cuz of the other video this year for vids in Spanish
I've had a dude (the guy tending the bar) in Madrid get mad because I didn't want to get a beer with my tapas. Very isolated case, but thought it was funny. Kombucha, coke and non alcoholic beer is served everywhere so you got options.
I live in the UK but would head to Mallorca most winters for a week, this was prior to Covid and it was dirt cheap for flights and accommodation if booked well in advance, watching this has me looking on the budget airlines sites for deals, I would love to explore the gravel scene out there, its easy to head to the main climbs and routes around Sa Calobra and Puig Major and I haven't looked into the more leisurely options in that region nor main land Spain... Also out of interest, I believe you mentioned that you was having some 24mm axle cranks made that accommodate shorter arms, any idea on cost or if these will be available in Europe , also any plan for 155mm option?. Thanks folks..
Good to see Laura participating in front of the camera.

LOVE this area. I've been to Granada twice. I do recommend you see the Alhambra when all the flowers are blooming. Can't wait to see your return trip!
Thanks for the homage to Washington Irving...
Fantastic little travelogue: informative and inspiring. Many thanks.

Been to Lanjaron 3 times trail running and mountain/Gravel bike riding. Love the place as its really quiet and beautiful.
My son and I did a tour of Andulucia last spring. Granada and the Alhambra were our favorite. We only had one day there. I would love to go back.

Lovely place, loved the 'podcast' style video 🚴🚴
Beautiful!

Great video and beautifully shot scenery too.
What a beautiful ride!
Confirmed. You can spend a delightful week just walking around Granada.
I am looking for a bike touring adventure for this year and maybe I found it ....
Thank you😊
Great video! I think that the name of the reservoir is Embalse de Quéntar.

Will be out to visit Swizerland soon, but not Spain. Maybe another day.
I've seen some Euro Velo routes that looks like you almost never are near cars!
EV1 from Brittany to Spain runs on canal tow paths and its own dedicated route that is not on regular roads.
Lovely
Here I was thinking that bikes would go on any train in Europe, regardless of the size and such. But that's probably because I am in Denmark 😄

Tapas sound great, but what would one order if you don't drink alcohol?
Hey there! That’s not a problem. You could order sodas, juices, or mosto and you’ll get a tapa anyway. Enjoy it!

Thanks for your replies on this. It helps.

They drop the h in Spanish words.
Lovely content, guys ❤
Just for info, the H is silent in spanish, so the word alhambra would be pronounced same like alambra
It's actually "Al Hamra" or "the red" in Arabic, it's just misspelled all over the place (except at the entrance of the monument).
