Kronus is dominated by its one habitable continent. Abandoned by the Imperium of Man, the planet eventually came under the sway of the emergent Tau Empire. It was a largely peaceful colony, until an Imperial Guard regiment under the leadership of General Lukas Alexander arrived upon the planet, in pursuit of the Eldar Farseer Taldeer, due to her actions during the war on Lorn V.
The Blood Ravens Space Marines, led by young Brother Captain Davian Thule, arrived on Kronus in search of artefacts left behind by their forebearers. Striking from their Castellum Incorruptus in North Vandea, they sought to eliminate all other factions on the planet, including the Imperial Guard soldiers under general Alexander.
-IMPERIAL GUARD DEFENCE-
After arriving on Kronus, general Lukas Alexander became governor-militant and set about to reclaiming the planet for the Imperium. When the enemies launched attacks on his capital, he prepared to repel them with extreme care.
Experts in planetary defence the men of the Imperial Guard were heavily fortified in Victory Bay any attacks would face well armed and well supplied soldiers backed by powerful armored columns and artillery positions.
The Guard's only real weakness was it's morale. Although most soldiers served honourably, the men of regiment's 5th company had proven less eager to fight and were placed under the command of regimental commisar Anton Gebbet in a forward base on the northern shore of the Victoria River. Without Gebbet's whip the company and it's base would surely fall.
Other companies were positioned in forward bases in more sensitive areas, ready to drive enemy off. Still determined attackers could overrun those positions.
Governor Alexander remained confident however. Indeed any opponent who made it through his forward positions would find themselves staring down the barrel of the massive "Hellstorm" cannon of an Imperator's Titan.
-IMPERIAL GUARD FATE-
When the Blood Ravens leveled the governor-militant's palace in Victory Bay they brought an end to a sad conflict within the Imperium. Both Captain Thule and Governor Alexander were acting on the orders of their superiors. And neither could back down when those orders brought them into conflict. Captain Thule and Chaplain Mikelus went so far as to praise the slain Governor for the indomitable dedication to his orders.
With his death they arranged for the transport of the surviving guardsmen off the world. Most were sent toward Segmentum Command with testimonials that they had done their regiment proud.
The Blood Ravens were less forgiving to the rebellious guardsmen of the 5th Company. Although these men had sworn their loyalty to the emperor's Angels of Death upon the death of commisar Gebbet, the Space Marines show them no favour.
Indeed these guardsmen had taken up arms against their regiment and the Blood Ravens judged them traitors to be executed.

Despite getting the crud beaten out of them, The Imperial Guard put up one heck of a fight against a superior force. It almost feels good watching the Blood Ravens get their nose bloodied here.

Have you considered that they were holding back? It's possible the blood ravens didn't want to go full force and wipe out their fellow human brothers from the planet.

While having power and skill is good, having good tactics is just as important.
I was cheering for the Imperial Guard throughout the video. Like the resemblence they have to real-life soldiers, unlike the Space Marines, that have been transformed to gen-modified bad-asses. Also, the Imperial Guard was one of the first armies I started collecting. :)
Those who have played Dark Crusade.....truly understand the extent of the bloody fighting that you have to endure in-Game......and we LOVE IT

@@DEFC0NZER0sort of couldn't they were trying to cover up there own little heresy. Also it was sort of rigged from the start as the chapter master of the blood ravens at the time sworn himself to khorne.
Funny thing? I was playing imperial guard, and guess what. We could barely hold off against chaos, and the necrons, it was rush or loss against orks, the one enemy (besides maybe the eldar) who i could allways beat easily in this game, were the space marines.
Seriously, at some point when i could not advance in any direction, because all regions were too well defended, i turned on the Blood Ravens and could get the extra regions and rescources by taking it from them.

The Imperial guard can counter everything you just need to prepare accordingly.
+Tojetaj Nikolic Yeah, i realised at a later playtrough with them. But the first time? I struggled, the necrons actually killed most other factions before i could eliminate them, so in the end i only got 3 stronghold wins.
When i finally got hold of how to play IG properly, i invaded strongholds with barely any honor guard and won, and could kill all the enemy strongholds before any faction would get to kill another.
Still, Orks fit my playstyle better.

I use artillery and infantry to achieve my goals. Also lot of defenses. Just in case.
+Tojetaj Nikolic There is a funny thing with the orks. Because there is no limit on waagh banners, their defenses are one of the best, as opposed to the guard that can have only 6 turrets. (But the fact you can garrison infantry barracks and the command center is a huge plus for the IG.)
And yeah, few factions have anything to match the range of the Basilisk.

I'm more a fan of the Space Marines, but it's impossible to deny the fiery tenacity of the IG.
Normal humans, no implants or anything beyond armour and las weapons. Yet still they bring the fight to the enemies of Man, wherever they are and whatever form they may take. This just furthers the point: Imperial Guard is undeniably BAD-ASS!
In my headcanon in the DoW games, all the Imperial forces, IG, SoB and SM, join forces to push the rest of the factions off the planet/system. Because you know. That is what they are meant to do. Because they are all part of the Imperium.
I like the grimdark of W40K : the 5th regiment betray the Imperial Guard to help the Blood Ravens, and get executed by them afterwards :)

The moment I saw Dreadnoughts on the field. I knew it was over, the Baneblade is nice, but against so many dreads. Even the strongest tank needs strong backup
Exactly. Same thing happened again in the Kaurava System (Soulstorm). All three Imperial factions had their orders to purge the system of everyone.
The conflict on Kronus and in Kaurava between the Imperial factions was who would have the glory and honor of reclaiming a wayward system, that and who would get the spoils and artifacts both systems had laying around.
Tbh if the blood ravens had anyone but the idiot they had in charge they prob could have avoided they fight. The sisters of battle had they minds made up from the start since they are basically zealots
Watching Imperial Guardsman and Blood Ravens kill each other in service to their Imperium and Chapters in the name of the Emperor makes me sick. Both sides manipulated into killing each other by the forces of Chaos. This is why I support the Tau and Orks. At least their codes of ethic are more based on unity or just enjoying the fight then being in service of crazy sense of honor that makes them kill their own race.
But the orks kill each other more than any other race and the tau have their own infights with the farsight enclaves.
I prefer chaos. Once they destroy everything they will inevitably destroy themselves. It's like a hard reset for the universe. Something else will come along after the old civilizations are dead.

+jimario clark space marines are tougher than orks even without armor and with their power armor it is almost impossible to kill them unless u bring heavy, plasma or melta weapons.

Actually massed lasgun fire will kill Space Marines. If 20 Guards fire at once on the same marine, he'll get downed quickly.
now after getting rekt in few battles in tabletop on 3rd edition,I can say that guardsman can hit on 5-6 of 6 side die,but any damage is on 6-5 and okay that's the wound but marine have armour save on 3-6 and that means mostly marine would fight without harm,but here starts the fun,when for 100 you have neophytes(worst marine squad) you can take stormtroopers for same points so in points vs points scenario you have flashlights that aren't weak,they bust orcs pretty well

The Chapter Master was actually plotting to destroy the Blood Ravens for the Chaos Gods at the time, so to try and get as many of them killed as possible, he had the Three Companies under Thule directly attack the Imperial Guard, along with everyone else who was fighting there, telling Thule that there were important Relics on Kronus that had to be kept from falling into the wrong hands. Unfortunately for him, Thule succeeded in conquering the whole planet, and suffered very few casualties (noted by Tarkus in DOW II)
So then he sent 5 companies (half the chapter) to fight 8 other opponents on Kaurava (Soulstorm), under the command of Captain Boreale. Boreale's incompetence caused the Blood Ravens to suffer a disastrous defeat, killing nearly every Marine under his command, or half of the entire chapter.
This dangerous under-manning paved the way for the events of Dawn of War II.
Pretty epic at 6:11, I feel for the guard though, it's like the charge of the light brigade.
The guard pretty much always has people outnumbered but at 6:11 it was the pictures themselves being referred to, the madcap guardsman charging into a valley of marine guns.
And this is why the Imperium can't have nice things. Fighting among allies everywhere!

Sorry for interupting, it was stated in some of DoW 2 dialog that Thule lost his eye in final fight with Necron Lord in their thombs.

It is VERY strange for me when some of you does not know that Galaxy was conquered for the Emperor by His Space Marine Legions, NOT the mortal Army(later renamed as 'Imperial Guard'). Marines have INDEPENDENT fleet, aircraft, mobile artillery and their infantry is unique in the Imperium.
As for technical problems: NO mortal soldier could wield a pair of LIGHTNING CLAWS /as that general does!/ because it is for Terminators and veterans! And...
Coming back all these years, I still love this video. How do you make a video honoring the Imperial Guard when they lose? This video. That's how.

Some very epic scenes in here. Seeing that many 1st Company Veterans standing in formation like that is a very frightening thing to behold, considering what each one can do.
also, im pretty sure in lore a single space marine is the equal of at least 20-50 guardsmen, and thats alone with almost no tactics, and space marines have plenty of ways to get rid of tanks...one way is to charge straight through them.
Mark my words, space marine!, The imperial guard will not forget nor forgive!

@Scarbgunner I know, im just pointing out that they seemed only to use grey knights, which makes no sense as the guard were fighting the blood ravens, but you cant see any blood raven marines there, only grey knights, which are a different chapter.
Nice video, though I'm a bit surprised that Sgt. Avitus didn't get any lines in: he was a key player to the purge of Victory Bay

Chaos, Tau, Necrons, and Orkz, and the IG managed to destroy the Orkz as the fighting at Victory Bay went on.
Sorryaboutrepeating, didn't realize I mentioned the assault squad yoke before. However, there are other tings as amzing; foinstace,the 5th(?)squad of the second cmpany of the imperial fists(may be wrong chapter) has taken no casualties between M41. 839 and M.41.999 (no information is available for m42) despite charging a necron lord etc. A regular imperial guardsman will probably be blown in 2, a storm trooper since they have armour just a massive wound. Space marines get disproportioally better
I agree, such as the Ultramarine books [Which I don't even count as canon at this point] Warriors of Ultramar where the Ultras, Deathwatch, PDF/Krieg fought off a Hive Fleet. [Granted though, this is as rare as all the stars aligning.] For a better one though, in the Souldrinker books, they basicly beat an entire Ork WAAARGH!

Inquisition knows more about Blood Ravens than anyone in Imperium.
Kronus has deep connection to BR and so it's only logical that they want to be part of it.
Not to mention entire peninsula corrupted by daemons and khornate beast trapped under surface feasting on souls of the slain.
@MsGhoulz They are fighting because they've both been ordered to clear the world of all other factions. That includes the space marines, or the guardsmen. Neither could back down, as they come straight from the top.
To have a chance in an infantry fight the IG has to have Kasrkins/Tempest Scions/Stormtroopers with Plasma in the front and Melta at the flanks. In front of the battle-line some few hundred white-shields or tanks to serve as a wall. Vindicare are also a good choice, but let's leave the officio assasinarum out of it this time.
The Commando/Elite troops of the IG can make devastating use of their relays advanced scanners and outrange the Marines with a volley of Plasma that will wipe their vanguard out before closing in. Those who survive and continue their charge will be molten by the Melta-Squads. What remains are the commanders and a dozen small ranged squads, who are still outranged. This is the best working infantry strategy I know of when facing Marines, be it Astartes or Chaos.

And an assault squad will crack open ANY I.G. defence. (Including battle tanks or super heavy armour!) Besides: Marines HAVE devastator squads, heavy Terminators, Land Speeders and Thunderhawk Gunships for close fire support, not to mention the fearsome BOMBARDMENT CANNONS with their MAGMA WARHEADS(size of a house block which causes mini thermonuclear explosion) and the Eternal Weapon: the Eater Virus, used for Exterminatus.
Relics, war titans, chaos. and the new race to the empire the necrons.
That was my original plan. But after playing DOW 2 campaign I couldn't resist to make it fitting the story :o
Ultimately, I think the Blood Ravens defeated the Imperial Guard by launching a surgical strike against Victory Bay while the rest of the Army was busy fighting Chaos and the Tau who were located the closest to Imperial Guard.
The Imperial Fist are one of the strongest chapters to date, I seriously doubt them and the IG would ever come into conflict. There's more to regiments than just Guardsmen, a Stormtrooper wouldn't be getting hit. So do Guardsmen, Lol.
And wars are made of battles.
Because SMs will number around 100, and IG will number over 15-100k men, this excludes auxiliary and vehicles of both forces.

I like to think of it like this Space Marines are like Rock heavy and hard to move but can deal a heavy blow Imperial Guard are like water adaptations are it's key to fighting and to drown the doe with their numbers and firepower
Ok, there's a reason that there's only about a million or so space marines, and hundreds of billions if not TRILLIONS of imperial guardsmen. Imperial guard die all the time. Most regiments never get reinforced. Most often they are merged or a new regiment is sent in. Space marines constantly replace the fallen in their chapter. Catachan jungle fighters are right as nails, but a space marine is tough as steel support beams in a skyscraper if that makes sense.
the reason I say a few is because for instance, one assault squad halted a wagh dead, so if there is a full company, then they should be more efficient. I will agree if they have carapace armour they have a chance to live. However, the bolts that come out of abolter "vaporized the charging ranks of enemies" with their power. To say a few cadian regiments are equal to an SM task force is folly - look at the world engine. 776 sm done what a whole 275,000,000 ig couldn't. And 12 emporer class ships

right quite right... if you think about what Marines can posses... Plasma guns, Heavy Bolters, Flamers, Rocket Launchers, Meltaguns, Multi-Meltas, Plasma cannons, Lascannons and last but not least... Autocannons!

and didn't get into a single straight up fight. There was the ambush at that farm in the woods with 12 enemies, then in the bastion they merely gunned down enemies in doorways, but with gaunt fighting the 2 sons of sek, when they couldnt just shoot at fish in a barrel, it was hard enough. And before matt ward took over SM, they were still super humans. agnatio can be found near the middle of a black library novel, but I can't remember which. But, if an automatic rifle fires mini missiles....

There is no compromise in this situation, IG would win undoubtely, SM can throw all the extremely well trained soldiers/technology they want at it, either way eventually they'd cave under the pressure of the waves of IG.
read any black library novel, and you will realize just how powerful a space marine is... for instance, in one book, uriel ventris (space marine captain) and his company of ultramarines single handedly turn back a tau invasion. Also, in another book, they stand against the nightbringer, who would probably take out 2 or 3 gaurd regiments without batting an eyelid. I imagine to take out a full chapter away from their fortress would take a few hundred thousand men.
@JKSeekerOfTheWind do you need to ask? A single space marine has centuries of combat experience, enough armor for a tank, bolter rounds, several redundant organs, the strength of ten men AND the Emperor of Mankind.
sorry for splitting into 2 comments, but we are both overlooking the theatre that they are fighting in. In a super inhospital place, the marines would break a sweat, but the IG wouyld be crippled. In jungle, superior senses would be a boon as well as man portable heavy wea[ons and in desert they would have to use hit and run tactics to win. In city fighting the marines could neutralize the greater numbers until the city is leveled. Tunnel fighting, IG would be butchered. In a charge IG could win

It is both interesting and sad when Space Marines and Imperial Guard fight each other.
The Battles fought on Kronus between the Blood Ravens and Kronus Liberators is also a sign of conflicting interests within the Imperium. One caught in the Orders of Segmentum Command and the other caught by the demands of thier Chapter Master.
The Blood Ravens could have used the Astra Militarum for the fight at least as second line units or allow them to assist in fighting. At the very least give them glory in stomping the T'au at Tash'n and capturing Taldeer.
Case of left hand not knowing what the right is doing, which happens irl on smaller scale. Somewhere deep in the beaurocacy of the imperium, some clerk is noticing the conflicting orders sent to the astartes and militarum and telling his boss one needs to be rescinded.

yes, I'm just going by what is in nearly every regiment.... like you can count on storm troopers in nearly every regiment (exceptions include tanith first) but what I mean is, one marine is easily the equal of 250 men. But 2 marines are the equal of 1000. But ten men are ten men. In a well executed raid against say lasgun armed cultists a squad may take out up to 40 men. I just think if imperial guard try for ages, and fail, then call on marines, who succeed, the sm must be better.

taking dawn of war 2: retribution into account, it was in fact the imperial guard that was acting on behalf of the imperium. unless i'm getting the timeline wrong and kyras was corrupted by the maledictum after dark crusade

looks awesome, but the imperial guard look out numbered in this should'nt it be the other way around, must of been the lightist IG force every.
Space Marines conquered entire worlds with very few. Many commanders of the IG are incompetent and think just throwing men at it will solve the problem. That won't work against Space Marines
@@Stylenwavin theres a reason it will work, and thats because it fucks up chaos marines. remember, the guardsmen firing at something , the more guardsmen there are, it amplifies their individual effectiveness. and thats without heavy weapons. Melats , plasma, grenades? im sorry but the astra militarum is elite, extraordinarily elite, and they have stood up to daemons and won.
IG is the only faction that is more the simply the sum of its parts.
Kay. I'm not going to, but it turns out I was wrong. It wasn't a Nob, it was a Warboss. And I know for a fact a SM can't take it on in melee combat.

Ale myślę, że bez problemu można było coś wybrać z repertuaru pierwszego DoWa. Ale i bez tego ruchu, filmik jest świetny - klimatyczny i przystępnie zmontowany.
Osobiście, to chętnie zobaczyłbym coś w klimatach, właśnie Eldarów. Coś mnie ciekawią ostatnio, o czym świadczy ostatni Trybut. ;)
