"Funhouse" is probably my favourite L.P. of all time ! From the opening track, to where the album finishes is mindblowing. It is probably the greatest sonical trip ever put to vinyl. Iggy is The Godfather... .
The Fun House LP basically crystallizes and encapsulates what rock music is at a fundamental level in a way nothing else ever has. You should hear the whole album. If you want to see The Stooges live from this period look out for footage from the Cincinnati Pop Festival in 1970.
Every time I hear this song I think, "Joy Division listened to this." The Stooges were so unique, particularly at the time. Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, The Stooges and Jonathan Richman all absolute pioneers.
On my son's 18th birthday (1996) I brought him to see Iggy at the Warehouse in Toronto. Iggy was 49 then I believe and he didn't lack any energy! What a show! At one point Iggy jumped off the stage and ended up in my son's arms for a brief moment. I reached out and touched Iggy's skinny arm. The crowd was riveted to his performance.
all time favorite live rock experiences were probably the stooges concerts I went to in the late sixties and seventies. they fused garage, blues and jazz plus their own special ingredients. consummately passionate and crowd arousing.
I fething LOVE this album! Great reaction! Awesome that you recognized Iggy's voice! The power of the rhythm, the intertwining lead guitar parts, the rawness of everything... just an awesome, awesome song!
Yes, yes, yes, listening to Iggy Pop you always imagine him on stage 😂😂😂 , it was Iggy who invented "stage diving", he was the first to start jumping into the crowd on stage, and also unzip his fly during the concert, funny guy!
😂..... ""Ils devaient avoir mis tout les Piments dedans .." Ce devait être pour évacuer la Merde qui était en Eux..🎸🎸🤗🧐⚠️... Vive les Stooges pour cette chanson imparfaite..🌿🎸🐾🐾🌿
I love Iggy Pop, I like The Stooges as garage rock, proto-punk, glam rock; on their official MySpace, the band's style is labeled as psychedelic rock/punk/metal. The band tried to reunite several times after the breakup, but guitarist Zeke Zettner died in 1973 from excessive drinking, bassist David Alexander died of pulmonary edema in 1975 at the age of 27. Shortly before his death, he was treated for pancreatitis caused by alcohol abuse. Iggy himself ended up in a drug treatment clinic for heroin use, I was surprised how he could survive and recover, good health to him! Unfortunately The Stooges don't actually exist anymore because guitarist Ron Ashton recently passed away in 2009 and drummer Scott Ashton in 2014. On June 22, 2016, guitarist James Williamson announced the band's breakup, stating: "The Stooges are no more. Basically everyone is dead except Iggy and me. So it would be ridiculous to try to tour as Iggy and The Stooges when there is only one Stooge in the band and then you have other side guys. It doesn't make any sense to me." Iggy has a good solo album "Brick by Brick" from 1990, and one of his most popular songs "Candy" is recommended for reaction.
Great debut, but I don't know about it being more raw than Funhouse. I feel like this one is noisier and nastier. Both are rawer than just about anything else around though.
Harri, there were two American bands who emerged in the late 60s who changed and influenced about 50 years of music, and this is one of them. The other is The Velvet Underground (Lou Reed and John Cale)
Yes, it was Iggy, lead singer of 'The Stooges' (early years) later know as 'Iggy and The Stooges' (which Iggy did not like). I grew up in Detroit, The Stooges were like a 'house', band I saw them everywhere. The heaviest Band live,...EVER!!! He would do some 'Bikers Speed' (combo of Heroin, speed, and LSD) and walk out and perform. Sorta known in the beginning as 'The Psychedelic Stooges'.
I had the good fortune to see The Stooges twice, with Ron and then James. Nobody has come even close to matching them onstage, and that comes from somebody who has seen Joy Division (supported by Killing Joke), the Clash, the Jam, Jeff Buckley, Bowie, The Stones, REM, Springsteen, the Cramps, the Birthday Party and many, many more. All have been wonderful, but The Stooges were in another league entirely. The most reviled group of their time is now amongst the most revered. Rightly so. From a homeless, penniless junkie to having his own radio show, Ig has had the last laugh.
Not true! Iggy was named Iggy Pop by the Asheton brothers after a local delinquent called Jim Popp. Iggy was reportedly furious that Elektra called him ‘Iggy Stooge’ on the sleevenotes for the debut album; he was never Iggy Stooge.
This is the first album where Iggy sounds like Iggy. In their eponymous album, it's still his voice, but he's doing more of a Mick Jagger thing. "Noh Fuuhn. Mah Bay. Noh Fuuhn".
Such an incredible album, remember these guys started in the 60's so years ahead of their time. It was Iggy Pop's 76th birthday this week.
Godfather of Punk! Iggy Pop! Detroit Legend! My favorite album of all time!
Yelawolf's "Best Friend" has a line by Eminem that salutes Iggy: "I'm the Iggy Pop of Hip-Hop"
This is the best album of all time... recorded in 1970. This album reminds me a lot of very raw free jazz.
Has a blues, punk sound also
"they hit me so bad it's good" is such an accurate description of the stooges hahaha. Cool reaction!
heh heh adorable. "oh , this sounds like iggy pop to me"
Yeah, i laughed when he said that, I had no idea anyone who heard the stooges didn't know Iggy was the singer.
This album is a religious experience to the church of R&R. Glad you got a taste. :)
This is Iggy! This is the shit! Funhouse by The Stooges, later Iggy and the Stooges, is an electric album.
Right on brother...
@@johnmcclean343the best ever
I love how you said "that was some nasty funk", because back then what they did was funky. And groovy. And it's mind-blowing.
The album Fun House was recorded in 1970, but this is only the heyday of Iggy's career, he was then 23 years old.
"Funhouse" is probably my favourite L.P. of all time !
From the opening track, to where the album finishes is mindblowing. It is probably the greatest sonical trip ever put to vinyl.
Iggy is The Godfather...
.
Love this band. They're from my home town of AnnArbor MI and as an avid punk I can't help but to take a little meaningless pride from that fact lol
One of my favourite albums. Pure energy.
The Stooges had some of the rawest swagger I've ever heard/seen
This album is extraordinary, the power ,the invention -it's an absolute classic

Detroit,Ann Arbor Grit. Try 1969.
@@markwilliams5606 Listened to it. coincidentally, earlier today.
Don't forget the MC-5.
And the sonics while we're at it.
Yeah.....Jonathan Richman & the Moden Lovers !...this band definitely deserves some airplay !!!
The menace in that guitar riff, it’s a black Dodge Charger R/T driving slowly through the city.

I saw him in London, lost my beer money and sprained my ankle.🙄
Saw The Stooges on their first Funhouse tour. They blew the walls down with an all-out audio assault.
This drum beat is a bomb
all time favorite live rock experiences were probably the stooges concerts I went to in the late sixties and seventies. they fused garage, blues and jazz plus their own special ingredients. consummately passionate and crowd arousing.
This is music my babysitter played for me back in the day...she was cute and played me good jams ...
I love that soo fucking much
@J-Loe Right on !! I did, too .... 😊
This is straight-up feral animal rock & roll.

And I was right up front of stage there with a big smile on my face... waiting to catch him! 😁
Love it! My all-time favorite band!!! Love to see someone discover their music!

Godfather of punk!!!
you found the right words to tell how great this is !! 👍

The Punk attitude and blue are being created!
Detroit Muscle 💪
im so proud of you for hearing iggys voice
Stark, raw, primal, slabs of guitar. The other sound of late 60's/ early 70's Detroit.
Iggy Pop lead singer!
Iggy & the Stooges bro 🤟👍
1969, I wanna be your dog, no fun from first album in 69 even more raw.
Great debut, but I don't know about it being more raw than Funhouse. I feel like this one is noisier and nastier. Both are rawer than just about anything else around though.

Yeah, totally reminds me of Iggy Pop too
This song rocks so hard

No Fun!My Baby , No Fun to hang around. The Stooges. Ann Arbor!
That album had an unmistakable atmosphere.
Funhouse was released in July 1970.
Released in August of 1970.

Back in 1970 Iggy was known as Iggy Stooge, he wasn't christened Iggy Pop until he met David Bowie a couple of years later.
Not true! Iggy was named Iggy Pop by the Asheton brothers after a local delinquent called Jim Popp. Iggy was reportedly furious that Elektra called him ‘Iggy Stooge’ on the sleevenotes for the debut album; he was never Iggy Stooge.

That is indeed Mr. Jim “Iggy Pop” Osterberg, the peanut butter man himself.
Yea 👺ROCK 'N' ROLL HALL OF FAME 🎼🎩🎸🎶🎶😈MEMBERS☮️✌️
Iggy was in Iggy and the Stooges, yes. Haha😊
The. Best. Song. Ever.
Very definitely Iggy pop sound.
The Pop gig was David Bowie. This is just Detroit Muscle 💪.
I love this my man,it has to be played loud. ✊
I wish that song didn’t have to end!
Hahaha it is Iggy…
Has Harri listened to I Wanna Be Your Dog yet? . . . I want to see his reaction to THAT bad-ass song! Punk before Punk existed!
I remember how scary this sounded when it first came out. Now it's like Mary Had a Little Drug Habit.
top ten rock song
The cover art is very similar to Ten Years After's Ssssh! Album from the same era.
Viet Fukin' Nam!
Prelude to punk
Here the live version, it's way better!
Great album and this is a great song but my absolute favourite song off Funhouse is Dirt.
Mine also
Iggy Pop became a better singer. as he got older.
