Let me know what you thought of BEHEMOTH! I'm also curious if the patches have changed anyone's experience. The game honestly started to grow on me after the day 7 patch despite the problems I still have with it. Thanks for watching!
Same here. If someone had asked me if they should try it after I just finished the game I would have told them absolutely not, I was grinding my teeth by the end of my run, but I see it much more favorably since the updates.
I bought the game and ended up refunding it after an hour and a half. I really really wanted to love it but the combat/stamina system alone was a deal breaker. It was a really tough decision because everything else about the game I was in love with. I will most likely revisit the game at some point and check in on it after it's had a little more time to cook and polish. I felt very closely to what you described in this video. I do appreciate all the changes they're making to appeal to a wider audience which is why I'd like to give this game another chance at some point.
Easily one of the best VR games I've played this year. Started playing after the Day 7 patch on PSVR2 and loved the combat and grappling hook traversal and had my mind blown by the behemoth fights!! Just hoping they add something that lets you replay behemoth fights, and would kill for another behemoth as DLC
I played the game and felt quite underwhelmed, but I didn't know there were more people sharing my thoughts. My main issues were with the stamina system and how clunky the combat felt. I wanted to plan and execute cool combos, I wanted to feel like a powerful warrior, but each time my character would get tired and slow. In most of the encounters I'd end up bumping into my enemies, performing random swings with my sword, hacking away until they were dead. I didn't feel much motivation to come back into the game, but now that it's been patched, I'm looking forward to giving it another go!
Sounds exactly like my experience. Wish I waited a bit to buy it and played for the first time after that patch. I was getting so frustrated by combat.. it felt so random, sometimes enemy weapons would just go straight through mine and I couldn't tell what I was doing wrong. I don't think I had any issues with that after the patch. The combat is still not as good as something like sword and sorcery but at least it works.
Brilliant video man. I had problems with the parry mechanic. It seems the developers have fixed my issue. The game is a lot of fun. I still think the level design leaves much to be desired though. The levels feel like levels from a video game. Shadow of the colossus has much better level design in my opinion. Having said that I still find this game a blast to play through.
I'm probably in a very small group of people on this, but "video gamey" things like the stamina system in VR just don't make sense to me. Sure, we aren't carrying around a giant greatsword in our living room, but isn't the most immersive stamina system your actual real-world physical endurance? I think that was one of the things that sold me more on Batman's combat. It's a workout, and they do some animation throttling on hits to make up for the lack of feedback, so it feels more natural.
@@bonezzVR I comepletely agree. My hope is someday we will get a blade and sorcery that has a smart enough/ fast enough ai where no animation throttling is neccesary and we can just have a real sword fight wherever we are. A challenge because its real, not because the characters have a lot of health or their sword teleports in front of yours. Where any contact is lethal and satisfying because of the work required to get it.
Nice review. I am gonna get behemoth at some point, but im more excited for alien and i need to finish batman first. You should check out propagation paradise hotel VR, its the scariest game ive played in VR. I also really liked RE4 on the quest, and the submersed mod for subnautica.
I really want to play the RE4 quest version, i just know that's going to take a lot more time. I'm still dragging my feet on Asgards Wrath 2 because I know that's a long game.
@@bonezzVR same with AW2. I got it free, but there are so many great shorter experiences that I don't want to start it. RE4 is really stellar, especially with Quest games optimizer improving the visuals. So far it's my favorite VR experience
i really wish skydance spent more time on this. like a year or two. it could have been so much more. the first biome area is done really well and you can feel the love poured into the environment, all the encounters and the character interactions. but you can feel the quality go down and the ending especially feels really rushed. there was definitely a lot of cut content as well like the fish behemoth (i believe there was meant to be a spider behemoth at some point too) and yeah the combat has improved a lot since the patch so blocking is a lot better. hope you dont jave to keep swinging wildly in order to grt past combat sections lol
I fs got the feeling that there was a lot cut and it's a shame. No spoilers but even the ending shot, I was positive there was more. So help me if there is more and it turns out to be some kind of seasonal or dlc. Honestly just turning off the stamina system made it a much better experience for me. It still feels a weird and floaty but at least I can predict how the movement is going to perform. There were times when my stamina ran out and I could have sworn I blocked and was already on a counter swing before the character even moved.
@ they could end up making a dlc, hopefully revolving around the fish behemoth (specifically the one that knocks you out after it drags shacklehide away). maybe even a sequel? but i really doubt that. but i would like for skydance to stay with the game for a while until they move onto other big projects. and when they do eventually move on it would be great to finally see one of their games not be super rushed
Played through the game three times, which kind of tells you if I like it or not. 😅 But honestly, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had gone in thinking it's the most amazing VR experience ever. The mediocre reviews and mention of jank really helped me overlook what many people might find off-putting. The settings and visual design, not just in the Behemoth fights, really kept me engaged throughout the game, and I loved the acting. I find all the "physics based combat" games pretty janky and get annoyed fairly quickly. Happened in things like Blade and Sorcery and the Bone- games, all three of which have amazing reviews, but it didn't bother me as much in this one. I think it's because I figured out pretty quickly that those in-between fights weren't about challenge, but about showing me how much of a beast I am in Wren. So when walking through enemies with explosive arrows and the strength trigger, it really just built me up to the point where I actually believed I could take down a Behemoth. And the mini bosses were a fun challenge in between... So yes, while a lot of time in this game is spent fighting simple enemies, it never felt like the main point of the game to me. That and expecting lots of bugs and jank when walking in really made the game work for me...
I definitely prefer the mechanics here over Boneworks but I have a soft spot for B&S. I went into Behemoth completely blind with high expectations given the pedigree of the team behind it so maybe it was much more jarring that it was in such rough shape at launch. Given most of the major VR releases this year have had rough launch weeks with maybe the exception of Batman which still had stutter issues.
It's almost as if studios are pushing the devs to release games asap and crunching is a thing in game development. 😅😅😅 Yes, it's a pity. Especially since it took many of the games just one more week or so to turn many of those issues around... 😢
@@FlorianFahrenberger@FlorianFahrenberger that is the craziest thing to me, consistently it seems like within a week or 2 most of these games are in a completely different state, heck based on industry reviews of pre release copies they seem like they are in a wildly better place even at launch. I feel for the devs, I doubt any of the people in the trenches wants that to happen.
When you described the combat, that was my issue, or at least the main issue. That lead to me refunded on the first behemoth. I beat the boss and the game immediately soft locked, after that, the boss fight would never load correctly. After that, the thought of going back through it just turned me off.
I was pretty fed up by the second behemoth but powered on. It is honestly in a much better state now than it was at launch, might be worth checking out.
I don’t know if this is just me but I hate how when I barley tapped them it would automatically go to a instant kill headshot yeah it’s an easy kill but I actually wanted to fight not just get insta kills every hit I refunded it it’s a cool game just not my type and I really wanted more freedom with the combat like blade and sorcery also last thing I didn’t like in my opinion there was not enough weapons I thought I wish there was a more variety of weapons
not long into the game you have roughly 50/50 enemies with and without helmets. at that point being able to oneshot the helmetless ones becomes your priority to not get ganked. i actually quiet like that. i think you just left the game to early. even archers get helmets. (and god do i hate that)
i have a laundry list of issues with this game but funnily enough the behemoths were (in my opinion) by far the worst part of the game. shouldve called it skydances humans instead since 90% of the time youll be killing them instead.. i think the behemoths are a perfect representation of vr gaming. do one thing that stands out and is easy to advertise then make everything else generic to decent at best. let it have a decent amount of jank and add tedious climbing aswell as grapple mechanics. and theres your skydances behemoth. i dont regret the purchase, but vr just lacks titles like (for me personally ofc) witcher 3 that just suck me in and wont let me go until the games finished. its definetely not the vr gaming pillar some make it out to be. thats for sure.
I wasn't even expecting something of that scale, so many of the teams working on these games are small with relatively small budgets. I just feel like I'm getting tired of the jank and buggy launches. We have gotten a handful VR games that launched with minimal bugs and mechanics that get around the jank. We should be getting closer to "best practices" in VR but then again, even just in the comments it seems like a 50/50 split of love it or hate it so I don't necessarily have an answer. Alien Rogue incursion is getting generally better review that Behemoth and I think that game feel downright wierd to play mechanically.
4:20 this is why i just simply dont play melee/ sword fighting etc games. i stick to sim racing or first person shooters/ guns. or bow and arrow games. with no janky physics and annoying collisions. where its easy for your brain to adapt. aim and shoot. it works flawlessly in vr. melee feels absolutely horrible in vr to me. im also one of the minority that prefers floating hands over full body ik to get properly immersed instead of constantly distracted by jank/ improperly sized hands/ arms etc, elbows in the wrong place etc etc.
I think the combat works better in psvr2, i think on PC, with no haptics and eye tracking it lacks impact and feel of the blade, it's very important in this game
Let me know what you thought of BEHEMOTH! I'm also curious if the patches have changed anyone's experience. The game honestly started to grow on me after the day 7 patch despite the problems I still have with it. Thanks for watching!
The scale of the behemoths alone makes going through the game worth the bugs - now that it's smoother I've started recommending it to people

Devs have already reworked the stamina system a lot now btw for combat
