What a well spoken, articulate bright, and bubbly, young lady who definitely knows her shit 😂 I loved this ❤ Gday From The Whitsundays Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 It’s the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef 👋 Thank you so much for the entertainment this year. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot wait to see Lownie back Please buy yourself beer on me, preferably a six pack of 150 lashes It’s an Aussie beer , a pale ale and I am sure that you and Mrs. Craig would thoroughly enjoy this beer as it’s Aussie 🍻 😂 The story behind this beer goes ; When James Squire was discovered stealing ingredients from the stores to make the colony’s first batch of beer, the Judge ordered 150 lashes… plus two barrels of ale. Thankfully for us, James Squire was a far better brewer than he was a thief 😂 It’s a good drop , it’s my drop 👍 I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas we will be out mud crabbing and fishing Once again , thanks for the entertainment these past 12mths . I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your channel . 👍
What a lovely story and a very generous Xmas gift! If you don’t mind I might spend it on a glass or two of something bubbly in the hotel bar tonight. But when we lived in Sydney I certainly tasted ‘lashes’ more than once. We visited the GBR but never made it to the Whitsundays. Your life there sounds idyllic. Have you been to Ningaloo out west? That’s special too. Sending best wishes and thanks from Madeira to the southern hemisphere ! 😊
I have always thought that extreme arrogance coupled with stupidity is a dangerous mix. Unfortunately, Prince Andrew is an example of this. Probably, applies to Prince Harry too!
Fantastic guest, Phil. Carolyn makes the history come alive with her knowledge of all the details. Another round with her would be excellent. Happy New Year, Mr. Craig! 🥳🥂❄
Carolyn is one of the most articulate, interesting guests you've had -- thank you for having her as a guest (and I hope you have her again!). Proud to see we share an alma mater -- Queen's University.
Sorry to keep harping on, but it would be great to hear Andrew chatting about his forthcoming book on Prince Andrew for the Christmas Special. An exclusive. ( None of your bah humbug, Phil. )
Two decades before Victoria's granddaughter Alix of Hesse married Alexander II's grandson Nicholas II, V's 2nd son Alfred married A's only daughter Maria Alexandrovna. They were the first D&D of Edinburgh and then inherited the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha from Albert's brother, so she was known as the Triple Duchess. Not a happy marriage. Their only son apparently killed himself at their 25th wedding anniversary.
What an interesting episode. I think it was one of the best. I always feed the possums and we reared a baby ringtail to adulthood. We do use the term possum as an endearment. I used to work for a pathologist who also did veterinary pathology. One day a paediatrician called and said “I’m looking for the test results of a little possum on my knee. She’s a little human possum, somebody put me through to the vets before”. Enjoy your holiday with your giggly girls.
Would LOVE to hear Carolyn’s Marie Antoinette stories! Recently listened to a fascinating podcast series on French Revolution which opened my eyes to the behind the scenes negotiations and their failure 😮 so Carolyn’s take would be awesome
Madeira certainly looks lovely! 🌊☀️ Thank you for another interesting conversation. The Yorks need emergency retirement. What about a royal B&B on the outskirts of Balmoral where he could bore his paying guests for €1000 a night? Happy Christmas, Phil and Family! 🎉
Thanks for joining me again Peony and yes I’ve already lined Carolyn up for another appearance - to be our resident Canadian connoisseur of consorts!! 🇨🇦😊
I’m from middle of the US, I’ve been listening since the first episode. Truly enjoy hearing about scandals I’ve never of :). BTW, what is an Australian bar?
Skippy is with you... Phil, your job is to pour cocktails and look after your girls without complaint!!! Prince Andrew is an embarrassment and this was ALWAYS going to happen. I suspect that he didn't actually have too many deep secrets to divulge as he's not the sharpest tool in the toolbox and he'd have been given low level matters. It could be a boon for KCIII and give him the excuse to boot Andrew into the weeds!!
There's an old Princess Caroline silver regimental teaspoon, in my famiy. It's been handed down from generation to generation with a sad story of the death of a princess, with a common touch. Her regiment was disbanded, and on the final day the soldiers stood on the parade ground, close to tears for their princess, each soldier was awarded a silver spoon in her memory.
@@janwhite6038 what a wonderful treasure... My daughter was the only Caroline at all of her schools (she's 28) which was surprising - I am biased - it's great name - classic, strong and now we know shared with an interesting Queen with a common touch!
This was great! Did not know that Pr Charlotte live long enough to marry. Did not know that Victoria had 2 half siblings😮 so much more more to come🥳 re suggestive hedges. Photos or it didn't happen😂 Cheers🍹❤
Great video! My parents were born in Madeira. Quite poignant to see Funchal. Have a great holiday Phil! Please have Carolyn back again. I could listen to her all day! Cheers! 🏝️🏝️
@@philmcraig There is a tasty little number on the market titled Prince Eddy and the Homosexual Underworld by the late Theo Aronson. Would make an interesting Scandalous Mongers Podcast ! Oh, almost forgot. Do you know who was his literary agent ? 😉
I wonder what would have happened with Belgium if the couple Leopold/Charlotte had lasted and had made kids, since Leopold later became the first king of Belgium... 🤫 Great episode again! Thanks to you both! And thanks Phil for your always enjoyable episode forewords (and afterwords). It's reeally part of the charm and comfort of this channel ☺ Fran (Belgium)
Phil, I feel the Australian bar has affected you. Are all your preambles now going to be from alcohol related places like Madeira? Where next? Calvados? Cognac? Champagne? Or perhaps from the house of someone called Gordon.
Thank you both, very interesting again. Studying this period in the 1990's certainly helped link the past with the present. Will have to revisit some Cruickshank cartoons. Sounds like you're trying to drink Madeira dry, more suited to formal sercial occasions IMO. It's good you're helping keep your better half and malmsey sweet though. Note to self. More time proof reading, less time on terrible puns.

Vastly entertaining chat. Yes, please, more Ms Harris.
Oh that’s so generous thanks Vega. I’m guessing you’re a fellow Canadian too! 🇨🇦🇬🇧❤And yes I’m slightly behind with the proofs but I have until 2 Jan!
Loved your ‘sneering rant’ on the Rory Cellan Jones pod. It’s always great to hear differing perspectives. Don’t go changing!

@philmcraig Keep the glasses on, throw the shoulders back and pretend your their security?
Madeira is now becoming the place for many Canadians to spend the winter. We always enjoy Madeira and it’s a better value for us than Florida now.
