The Griselda rabbit hole goes deeeeepp and it’s shocking how many amazing projects there are from Conway, Benny, boldy james, westside Gunn, Mach hommy etc.. I would recommend listening to some off camera if you wanna hear more because the back catalog is massive

This is it man. I've always thought that beyond the simple enjoyment of hearing dope rappers on equally dope Al beats, it's always the result of the chemistry between his collaborators that intrigues me. He creates such a beautiful canvas of a soundscape for everyone to paint over.
That last track hits crazy already, then having to hear his mom talk about her memories of him as a child and go into talking about how God don't make mistakes.. UGHHHHH!! Hits you right in the middle of the chest EVERY TIME lol
Griselda truly brings this sinister feel to hip hop that we haven't heard in a while. Also, I'm glad to see that upstate NY finally has a representative rap group. For the most part, it's been NYC and it's five boroughs that have contributed the most to the genre.
Supposedly Conway played some of the album for Kanye before it was released, and when Stressed ended, kanye was so moved that he had to leave the room to take a minute to himself
Boldy James - Manger on McNichols / Westside Gunn - FLYGOD / Mach-Hommy - Pray for Haiti / Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 3 and The Plugs I Met EP / Conway the Machine - From King to a GOD - all these albums from Griselda associates are GOD tier for real
Conway is one my favorite artists of all time. Just saw him here in detroit when he came through for a show. His discography is nearly unmatched for me.
Conway is actually older than Kendrick. Most people associate thoughts of depression and anxiety with Kendrick because he's very recent, but many rappers have done the same. Biggie and "Suicidal Thoughts" is EXTREMELY influential. Although, not many rappers reference....but EVERYONE knows of it. It's kind of a blindspot.
@@SolidSnake240Im not sure we need to pin point talking about depression to one origin. Its a universal issue and music has always been an expression of emotion.
@@CadChamberlainNobody's trying to "pinpoint the origin" just pointing out that mental health has been a topic in hip-hop specifically for a long time. People often act surprised when they hear that subject matter in he genre.
Also a lot of people attribute the emo rap wave to Cudi and them but the first street rapper that really blew up with the type of songs Conway is making here was Joe Budden with the mood muzik series around the early 00s. I know a lot of people dont like him for his podcast but the guy was a rap pioneer with talking about mental health in detail in his projects.
Recently you've been listening to so many interesting and well put records, apart from the entertainment it brings us watching this glad that you can appreciate the journey of listening to these masterpieces.
This album was heavy and had me surprised when I first listened to it. Without a doubt one of the best rap albums I’ve heard this decade so far. I kinda get strong Illmatic vibes from the album especially with how personal and raw Conway’s lyricism is to be honest. And I’m really glad you’re finally getting into Griselda for the first time. So I thought I’d share some Griselda albums I think you’ll enjoy. Westside Gunn: - Hitler Wears Hermes Series (I personally think 7, 8: Sincerely Adolf, & 8: Side B are the best in there) - Supreme Blientele - 10 (although it’s still part of the HWH Series, it’s still amazing as a standout album) Conway the Machine: - From King To A GOD - La Maquina Benny the Butcher: - Tana Talk 3 - Tana Talk 4 - The Plugs I Met 1 & 2 And to tie it all up, I recommend listening to their WWCD album as a whole. Lots of amazing and gritty stuff that each and every one of them can have and still be just as amazing.
Met 2 and TT4 are mid, same as La maquina man but FKTG, TT3, Plugs 1 are essencial same as HWH 7, 8 and Blientele but weird to not put on list like that the best Gunn's album means FLYGOD FLYGOD literally is the most stacked "underground" album ever - Conway, Benny, Droog, Mach, Meyhem, Roc Marci, Skyzoo even fucking Danny Brown and Bronson all of them are featured on this bitch
Bob since you liked this, i also think you should do other griselda albums and I also recommend listening to Manger on McNichols by boldy James it's also an emotional ride
Alchemist is my favourite producer of all time. I’m always impressed by how he can always bring such a new and dark but also somewhat soulful sound to the classic vintage style he builds upon
Never thought i would see the day you reacted to this. Amazing album. Just wait until Manger on McNichols. Some of the darkest lyrics and production done in such a unique, jazzy and grimey Way.
stressed is one of my favorite songs of all time. beautiful lush production, and incredible verses and pacing. conway at his most vunerable. true hip hop.
holy shit i've literally been wondering to myself why you haven't listened to this masterpiece (or ANY griselda) recently! you've entered a whole new side of modern hip hop :)
PLEASE check out Manger On McNichols by Boldy James and Sterling Toles. Incredibly personal album over 10 years in the making with some of the most insane and layered Jazz Hip-Hop production ever.
Best album of 2022, up there for top album of the decade so far in my opinion. Conway has such vivid writing, and the production builds this atmosphere that is unmatched.
Great great album! I kind of have trouble really sitting down with records, so you going through it with lyrics up made me really see it for what it is for the first time. I'd give you 2 thumbs up if I could, One of my fave projects of 2022. Love how Conway put his feelings on display on this album, while still keeping it dark and spooky. A great project and great reaction. I was emotional on like 3 tracks when I first heard this project, but If I had listened while reading the lyrics like you did, it would have hit me even harder.
You should definitely check out Hell Hath No Fury by Clipse at some point Bob! Clipse is comprised of Pusha T and his brother No Malice and it was produced by Pharrell Williams' and the Neptunes. The beats are my favourite of any album Pusha has ever worked on, and the rapping is fantastic
Now damn near every billboard chart toppin rapper wants to be (or already has been) on a Griselda record. Still waiting on that Kendrick collab, it’s only inevitable at this point.
The closing track is one of my favorite songs not only from last year, but in the grand scheme of storytelling tracks. I think you’ll love the rest of Griselda too Bob. Their music is such a breath of fresh air.
