- The 1997 the American Negro Spiritual Festival was held at Music Hall stage in Cincinnati Ohio. NLP's Bob Leibold was the video Director of a three camera shoot. Tuskegee University Choir was the Festival winner led by Musical Director Stephen L. Hayes. This clip features two of the "compulsory songs" the Choir sang during the contest. This video is the only surviving professional visual record of that day. Music Hall's famed stage acoustics was captured by WGUC Fm engineers.
My dad. I'm so proud of him and I love him so much. Dr. Stephen L. Hayes.
Your father is a legend if he directed the Golden Voices. I sang from 2011-2016.
your Dad is one of my dearest friends in this world, we tried and succeeded to bring Afro American music to a dying Montgomery Alabama area. We did an interview in 1995 broadcasted on WTSU in Troy Alabama that was played three times by popular demand. Your Dad is an icon.

It's always good to have haters, Trev. Means y'all are doing your thing!
Man I am so glad I found this! I've been looking for the 1997 Christmas concert!
This is straight MASTERY.
No, I was an active member from 05 to '10. I know a few of the people in this video including the Steal Away soloist who is now a professional Opera singer
I DID!!!! And It makes me so proud to see these videos. Im smiling from ear to ear!!
Floating, ethereal, urgent, muted then climactic, sung g in the spirit of the lyrics, plaintive...., rich, crystalline pure solo....just GORGEOUS!!!!
Ahhh! Listening to these Golden Voices brings back good old feelings and proud moments
Incredible voices. Got to be in the same room as Jester's hands; I cry almost every night thinking of his musical beauty.
So was the video crew. The singing was incredible but the stage presence was exciting. Even Curtis Fuller, local popular TV personality, the emcee, commented on the "sit down" when he came back to the podium;. Real showmanship, congrats... fun watching....thanks you all for making it happen
😭

This makes my heart happy! KA-O!!!! Bass section is on point!
It's so interesting to see this so many years later! I was at that concert as a student and remember it so well! And all my friends that where in the choir. Wow!!! Time flies!

This arrangement was done by Mr. Roland Carter, copyrighted with the Mar-Vel company 1979. Lord knows we sung this beauty PLENTY o' times in the choir. LOL One of my faves! KA-O!
