Scared to Death | The Spirit Of Highway Five

  • Dan has a tale in Alabama and centers around a ghost that has been spotted by numerous truckers - and some other drivers as well - at night along Highway 5. Then we head to Pune, India to explore the story of the Pune Poltergeist. Lynze has a bizarre haunted house tale that might also include a mimic? You decide. Then we go to Mexico for a funny tale of a new little creature called a duende followed by a much heavier, much darker tale.

    Opening Sumerian protection spell (adapted):
"Whether thou art a ghost that hath come from the earth, or a phantom of night that hath no home… or one that lieth dead in the desert… or a ghost unburied… or a demon or a ghoul… Whatever thou be until thou art removed… thou shalt find here no water to drink… Thou shalt not stretch forth thy hand to our own… Into our house enter thou not. Through our fence, breakthrough thou not… we are protected though we may be frightened. Our life you may not steal, though we may feel SCARED TO DEATH."

I'm 100% with Dan about the impact of Poltergeist. I remember the bad dreams, but also really loving the mosvie as the first horror film I enjoyed. The face peeling scene was one of the things that affected me the most. My favorite moment even now was Craig T. Nelson opening the door to the kids' room for the researcher lady who was talking about how poltergeist activity is usually misinterpreted natural events. Then he smirks and opens the door to a whirlwind of toys in mid air.

Hey, my grand kids are 6 and 8, and I almost have them completely convinced that I am a werewolf. My son is a dental appliance master craftsman, and I have him making me a set of wolf teeth. They're ceramic, but snap-in for the front four top and bottom only. I can also growl with that ULF sound most large animals use - just far quieter. All of that together has them telling their classmates that I'm a werewolf. Now, I just have to find a real wolf to set loose after I hide.
    Kids really are easy marks!

Many years ago, like 1999…my then husband was temporarily located at his employer’s office near Ft Lauderdale, FL and the company had sorted out a rental house for us (only like 3-4mos) as we live in England. Cute, small, one bedroom home…but there was something OFF about the bedroom. I slept in there MAYBE 3 nights and then refused! So we moved the bed into the den area along with the couch & tv…there wasn’t much floor space left, believe me! So we slept in the den the rest of the time. But each day I’d have to go into the bedroom to get my clothes that I’d then take into the bathroom, which opened from the hallway, to get dressed.
The bedroom had such a heavy, negative feeling & I refused to open the closet. I don’t scare easily but there was some BAD 💩in that room. My ex isn’t a believer but I’m glad he “humoured” me or my ass would’ve been sleeping on the couch alone

The story with the doppelganger makes me wonder if it was going to try to replace the husband. It reminds me of a previous story they did where the husband had to leave on a business trip. The trip gets cancelled and he comes home. He's there for like a week before the wife gets a call from her REAL husband and he is still on the trip. The doppelganger was imitating him THE WHOLE DAMN TIME! Definitely feels like that was going to happen in this story.

I hit a deer head-on several years ago in a Nissan Juke. Shattered the windshield and the antler punctured the airbag through the dash. Police said an 8th of a second later and he would have gone through my drivers side window and I’d be dead. Hitting a deer on the highway is absolutely terrifying.

So as a person that has hit a deer and I had an amazing altima sport coupe,6 speed,5 inch clearance from the road, perfect black (actual color). It was such a sweet Fast car. I hit a deer with it and had no choice. Go left is to hit oncoming traffic, go right i go into a river. It was 11pm and pouring. Someone flashed their lights at me and i looked for a cop up the road. The the car then weirdly flashed its lights at me first the left light twice then the right twice. I noticed the deer crossing in front of the other car because it looked at me and the weird lights from it walking in front of it, while it enters my side of the road. I had 5 seconds, maybe. I lift my foot off the gas and move to the brake and slam into the deer, doing about 50. It hit dead center, and it went like a hockey puck slidding on the wet road. 3 telephone poles away into a ditch. I hit it so well that the frame of the car was pushed into the engine block and completely totaled my car. If i hit the brakes, my nose would have aimed down and made the deer my passenger to the great beyond. That's the 2nd time I should have died. I have had 3 times where I should have died!

There is a truck stop in (I'm wanting to say Wyoming) if you're a trucker, and hit a deer, just tell the manager, and some guys would go get the body, and that is the meat they serve. They cut out the bruised bits, and if the body is obliterated then they don't use it. The first scene of Tywin and Jamie in GOT was going to be them sitting down until a crew member ran into a deer, and was inspired to have Tywin skin it. If you look closely you can see the bruising on the meat.

Part of the problem with doppelgänger stories is people can go face blind and not recognize someone they have known for years or think that person is an imposter which is scary, a mother can shoot a son thinking it is an intruder because they didn’t recognize them

Just an aside about the shipping so she can feel a bit better about it: Amazon has tons of warehouses and fulfillment centers, so if they offer same day or overnight on an item, the chances are good that it's coming from somewhere not super far away. ^_^ Especially with the grocery items since they bought whole foods.

the "dog-turkey" was more likely a nahual [na'wal], a form of skin walker like Lynze said. But unlike a skinwalker it doesn't always have its origins in humans, some people think it could be demons or even the devil manifested. There's a ton of legends that also connect it to witches. In some legends it's always a black dog with red eyes that will follow you home. In a spanish paranormal podcast that I listen to called, Insomnio, there was a story about someone who took a nahual home in the form of a stray dog in Mexico but they can manifest themselves in other types of animals like, goats, cows, cats, or snakes, the usual. So now you have been warned, if you ever go to Mexico, don't take stray dogs home with you.👹👻

And the duendes are always described like that, wrinkly old man face with pointy teeth or wrinkly kid face with pointy teeth. The story I've been told is that they live near water, mainly the little canals that often go through pueblos, they are pranksters, and often only kids or "innocent" minds can see them. They are said to be entities manifested of stolen kids souls that they will lure back to their homes to turn like them. And because of that, superstitions around your kids falling asleep near bodies of water are huge at least where my parents are from. They say if your kid falls asleep near those canals you have to wake them up by calling the child back to their body and keep calling their name all the way back home as you carry them back home. My mom told me a story about them chasing one of my aunts in Mexico back home as she passed through a canal throwing pieces of cheese at her at night lol and my dad said they used to throw rocks at him in our home here in California when he would sit on the porch just around sunrise. We live in Pasadena and arroyos pass through many parts of the city so it makes sense for them to be lingering around here too.🧙‍♂
