- Today I will be tying up the classic Frank Hornberg pattern, but as a streamer. This streamer variation has been around for a long time and is a favorite among anglers for trolling on lakes or ponds. Check out the video to learn more and see how I tie it.
Sorry, about the audio cutting out for a few seconds at 1:52 and 14:20. Had some issues rendering and uploading to TH-cam and I didn't catch it this time until after the upload. @1:52 I was just saying that you cant straighten this out later so make sure it is perfect now. @14:20 I was saying it was a good alternative in the streamers box because it has that dry fly collar, it behaves differently than the standard dressed featherwing streamers.

That was a new one for me. I knew of the Hornberg used as both a dry and wet/streamer fly but never have seen it tied as a full blown streamer like a stretch limo ;o) That's an awesome tie you made! I don't know what the link on the scale lure tape in the comments had to do with this tutorial but thanks. It lead to a GFF blog on buying materials on the cheap. I hope you had as good as can be expected Easter, thanks for the video, they help.

Long ago, I visited Rangeley and bought some Gray Wolf Streamers at the local fly shop. I bought them for keepsakes of my trip. I wonder if that little shop is still around. I enjoy your videos and like the two hook system streamers, you tie. Maine has trout, salmon, and some fish you never hear much about except in Maine. Land locked salmon, Splake, Coasters Brook trout, Sea run Brook trout as well as Atlantic salmon. What I found most interesting was stories about the Salmon fly hatch. Do you ever tie any fly patterns for them? It might be interesting for anglers to know Maine has many things to offer that can’t be found other places.
Great info. Thanks for the feedback. Maine certainly has a great fishery to explore. One of my favorite facts to tell people is that there are only 201 confirmed lakes left that contain wild, self-reproducing, populations of brook trout in the United States. 185 of those lakes are right here in Maine. Also, yes I tie up a lot of different nymph patterns to match local bugs. If you are looking for a good salmon fly nymph pattern, the Stoneant has worked great for me anytime I've needed a stone fly nymph, or hellgrammite. I'll be posting more videos of them in the future, including a dry fly version of the salmon fly. Tight lines! 🎣

@@williamemmons8816 That is great to know, I enjoy stopping at local tackle shops and fly shops as much as I can. They always make any trip better. The owner of this fly shop was kind and helpful and he made my trip just talking with him. I only spent two day there but with his suggestions I saw my first Bull Moose and caught a landlocked salmon and a splake. Thank you for your kind reply.
Gizmo Carr I only live 2 hours from Rangeley, fortunate , Don is still one of the best resources in the area. Maybe once the state restrictions open up for guides I can get a day . Hope you get a chance to return! Tight lines!
And yes, Rangeley style streamers should always have the wings tied on the sides. I see lots of ties on top which, to me, just doesn't look right. JMO.
