    We just bought an XTS (red premium model with the same camel interior as this tester with driver assist package and sunroof) for the very reasons he said were negative: Technology and handling. We are 42 and 37 years old which is much younger than the demographic for the old DTS this replaces. 70 year olds don't buy many cars, but people our age will continue to buy cars for years. This car is exactly what we need. It is a good balance between power and efficiency.

    had a buick lacrosse, and switched to xts..even thou they share the same platform and engine, there is a world of difference..xts is smoother, softer, the engine and tranny seem more responsive, and the brakes..brembos....the steering feel is more linear and not as twitchy..love the xts

      Gm couldn't let they're top brand be beat by the lower class Buick. I was looking at a used regal GS a few years ago at a Cadillac dealership. Sitting next to it was a 2015 Cadillac ATS 3.6 Premium Performance for just $3000 more. I took the Cadillac. I will say every time I see a regal GS I think how sharp it looks. Wasn't happy with the sound of the 2.0t in the regal along with the longevity of a turboed engine, that was the deal breaker. The original sticker on my Ats was $54000, I got it for $23000 with 30000 miles Cadillac certified

    I consider this XTS is a bargain the as-tested $58,180. Some people tried to compare it to the flagship luxury sedans (Audi A8, Lexus LS, Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series). This Caddy is in a way its own niche. There are still people who want a pure, American luxury car. This XTS is the one. The closest competitor I think is the Hyundai Equus. XTS and Equuus falls in the "bargain luxury segment." However, the two drivetrains are different, and the XTS has available AWD.

    It is available with AWD. It's still a bargain $58.1k. I know a lot of people think there should be a RWD BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class, Lexus LS, and Audi A8 fighter. But this is a classic cruising big Cadillac. Nothing wrong with a big cruiser, nothing wrong with a big Caddy.

    I have a Premium AWD XTS & love it. Matter of fact, it's the first car that got me to liking Cadillac as I did not like the brand prior to this car being revealed. I too am a big fan of RWD as it's what I prefer but I must say one thing Cadillac got right about this car, even tho it's FWD platform, you wouldn't think it was if no one told you because of how it rides. The only thing lacking from this was a V8! All the people I know who own one love everything about the car except that it does not have a V8! I am actually ok with it not having one. It's not the one to fly off the line, get a ATS & or CTS for that. This is for cruising on the highways! That's where this baby shines. Neither the ATS nor CTS can match the ride of the now defunct XTS. They all have their purpose. Once this car gets going on the highway, it's a pleasure to drive in total luxury & comfort.

    The ATS fills the smaller sport luxury role. And in this economy even a Fiesta is a pricey investment. 60 grand is a lot for any car, American or no. It could be a contributing factor to their efforts to broaden appeal and redeem the brands reputation.

    I just meant that their traditional market has shrunk, and to stay current they needed a new base. Perhaps a tunable suspension would solve the problem, if they don't have it already.

  • @candybubbles
    @candybubbles 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    i cringed a bit on how much the car swings and tilts around the corners and during the braking. It certainly looks soft, but it may not feel that way until some more tuning on the suspension... On the other hand, this is nice take on the luxury segment with a reasonable price.

  • @pedrof830
    @pedrof830 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing how little leg/floor space these new cars have, even FWD big ones like this one, I remember when FWD became the norm, one of its biggest selling points was all the front leg room for both driver and passenger, now they all make you feel that you're in some kind of race car.

  • @stevehammes
    @stevehammes  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not claiming that time should stand still and the XTS is a pleasure to drive, but I would think Caddy would want to offer a vehicle in this segment that the typical big Caddy driver can embrace.

    Pushing away the 70 somthings? I think Caddy needs to be marketing to a younger customer base and its doing so. If they continued marketing to old people they'd still be selling massive living rooms on wheels until they die off when that generation of people expire.

  • @MaliciousSRT
    @MaliciousSRT 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    In theory you're right about the tech alienating old buyers (core demo) but look at the 7-series and S-class,,,they buy it anyway because its a "technological wonder" even though 1/2 those buyers are clueless as to how to use them too. Heck, 1/2 of all car buyers with nav can barely use them. I think all the tech does good for Cadillacs image - but it should be optional for the oldies that care.

    I personally believe this is by far the best sedan GM has ever produced in terms of luxury, but not performance. Leather stitched dash, real wood trim; perhaps a first for Cadillac. I just wish it was on a RWD platform and had a the same level of performance technology found in the new ATS, which is MUCH better to drive. Plus the CUE system, while intuitive, is rather unrefined and frustrating to use. But I'm sure GM will address this in the coming model years.

    Personally, I rather they shuve the older gen out the door a bit. Not saying that the older generation shouldn't drive. But if a car company (i.e. Cadillac, Lincoln, Buick) want to continue to move foreward, they HAVE to get younger shoppers in. Not the 70+ living on their 6 figure pensions. Taking our Terrain to the dealer for service is mind blowing to me, being 22 and sitting with people 3 to 3.5 times my age. I ignore the status quo, and would buy a Buick, or a Caddy any day. Idk Lincoln....

    The problem with that, is that younger audience like the style but cannot afford a vehicle like this... and they prefer something smaller. Too much nose dive when pressing on the breaks (see at 3:26)...geez...you would think that the engineers at Cadillac would have addressed this issue before releasing it to the public. Not everyone wants "amazing" technology in a car, or having to take a week to learn it all. Some of us just like to drive a nice car, and don't want to feel we are driving a computer. We don't want to shift through endless screens just to adjust the radio or ventilation. We want simple & elegant buttons to do the job immediately & keep our eyes on the road. Ever heard of the term "too much of a good thing"? That's what this thing reminds me of. And if the ride isn't plush with a V8, forget it.

    I think the very reason Caddy went with a sportier stance and more tech is to attract a younger audience. The baby boomers are dying off. If they want to stay relevant and keep moving units they need a fresher face in the showroom. There is also the issue of the laughable status of American luxury abroad. It's why they chose to gun for BMW with the ATS. To aim high and make a reputation for themselves. If other reviews are right they may have succeeded. Time marches on. No more yank tanks.

    The proportions are terrible with an unusually high roof and rear wheels that look like they've been shoved inward. All of this, of course, is because the XTS was forced to share its platform with the rest of GM's Epsilon II lineup. The interior detailing, however, is exquisite and serves as a preview for what's to come.
