    The dry weight of this thing is 1500 pounds per the website. You're well on the way to overloading any 1/2 ton truck once you start adding people and cargo.

      F-150 Supercrew with the 6 foot bed and 4 wheel drive has a GVWR of 7,850 pounds... Truck is about 4,600 pounds so adding this camper will bring you to 6,300ish pounds wet. Leaves you with about 1,500 pounds to play with

    The key is it will FIT on a 1/2 ton but at 1500lbs dry weight almost all 1/2 tons will be over payload capacity especially after adding a driver, a passenger and cargo at that point you’re 2000+ lbs. Adding springs or other suspension improvements won’t change your axle or payload ratings, you’ll just be level while overloaded.

    • @Tsiri09
      @Tsiri09 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You're right on the money. CARRY WEIGHT, not pulling weight is what's important here. Trucks are listed with both, and you can't ignore either.

    • @AndreasDuessca

      3200lbs payload is not unusual for a 1/2 truck.

    • @CL-xk8iw
      @CL-xk8iw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AndreasDuessca For a standard F150, Chev or Ram 1500 or a Tundra it is. You can configure a F150 with a heavy duty package that basically turns it into a F250 without the F250 nameplate. The ad was it would fit any 1/2 ton, it won’t.

    • @amydelpiere9315
      @amydelpiere9315 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If you add any options like the air conditioner it will bump up that weight also. I think this camper will be good for a solo traveler who doesn't want a heavy-duty truck and knows how to pack light. I added up the camper, an awning, about 20 gallons of water, and a couple of normal-sized people and got 2,035 lbs. At that weight, you are really close to the max payload of most US 1/2 tons that have been outfitted with a manufactures payload upgrade. If I threw out the husband I'd be able to drive around with some food, cookware, a tablet, clothing, and my Kindle. What more do ya need?

    Okay let's talk about the cost of this camper, $35,000 starting price, it's a nice camper but if you buy one in a few years the deprecation will put the value at half of what you paid for it if you can find a buyer for it (they won't be banging your door down to buy it). Now for $50,000 you can buy yourself a 2021 16 foot Airstream travel trailer, a top of the line travel trailer that has very little deprecation and twice as much room and if you want to sale it people will be kicking your door down to buy it. I'm not an airstream owner or salesman but that extra $15,000 buys you twice as much room inside, a real bed, and a real bathroom, it's a no-brainer.

    I see quit a few commenters comparing this to a 5th wheels and trailers. You put this on a capable 4X4 truck, you can go places where a trailer and 5th wheels can't. This is the main selling point of s slide in truck camper. Of all the truck campers made in North America by all the manufacturers, nuCamp has the most modern design look.
    If I'm ever in the market for a hard side truck camper, this is it, I'm currently looking at pop up campers (Hawk by FourWheeelCampers).

    The payload capacity for my half ton Dodge is 1500 pounds. The dry weight of this camper is 1500 pounds. Add wife, dog, water, propane, and gear...and you now need a 2500 truck. You can add a camper package to the F-150 and be well within this weight limit. Requires the 5.0 v8 and some other stuff but if equipped right this truck camper should be no problem. You are correct in that most of the luxo-barge 1/2 ton "trucks" out there are too weak. But, they have nice leather ;-)

    • @roundsm18
      @roundsm18 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1500 lbs is under the payload for all of them, which increases with the package selection. That’s why camper packages and suspension packages are a thing.

    What I want is motel room, bed, sink, submarine shower, AC, heat, with a throw in small refrigerator. Nothing else, no huge heavy cabinet work, stove, ovens, TV. etc. Even a microwave, no, much prefer my own infrared toaster oven, weight 3 or 4 lbs if that. We can cook outside if needed, on grills, eat at Marina's dock bar, etc.
    Better yet no bed, mounts for two hammocks.

    Unit does not have a Wardrobe but would be nice if they had an area for a coat hook to hang your coat or rain coat if need be. Would be nice to see a rear awning. If it is raining without a rear awning as soon as you open the door whole entry is wet along with everything you have in the door pockets. And the ALDE system takes up to 4 hours to heat the camper but will heat the Glycol with electric if plugged in so your not burning LP. Ratchet straps will not last long. Make sure you carry a spare. Unit seems to be overpriced in comparison to other Manufacturers. Fully loaded, with the 3 extra options, should be $20,000 to $25,000.

    Excellent walk-through as always. I love the openess and windows, especially the skylight in the bed area, but the toilet is a deal-killer for me. If someone has to go in the middle of the night and you've got company there is no privacy. For the 1/2 ton truck I'll probably look at the Lance 650. Even though I hate a refrigerator in the bed area (they can be noisy and drip liquid) It has a dedicated shower/toilet area. I do wish the Lance had more windows, especially in the bedroom like the Cirrus 620.

    The statement that gross weight (dry) is 1,500 is not true. It is more like 1,800. This is why the 620, weight wet with passengers and gear, will not work with a half ton. The 620 requires a 3/4 ton (F-250) and this is disturbing since NuCamp markets the 620 as suitable for a half ton. If you compare the plate data for any half-ton with the wet weight, passengers, and gear for the 620 it is obvious the 620 requires a 3/4 ton (F-250). I think NuCamp is very dishonest to market the 620 as a good match for a half ton. It’s a nice little camper but get a F-250, not a F-150, if you want to carry it.
