    Regarding the "dead space field," I believe it's an infiltration tactic. Markers likely get discovered by small exploration parties, so if they were infected immediately, the ability to spread further would be halted by the small pool of victims and the virus would snuff itself out. By creating the field, markers gather larger populations around it as they are investigated, moved around, copied, etc. Then the trap springs once the victims unknowingly leave the field and it spreads outward, trapping the population within the dead space field who will eventually succumb. I suppose a Convergence event triggers the deactivation of the dead space field since it's no longer required, as enough victims have been gathered.

    So what came first?
    The Marker or the Brethren moon?
    I think there was some long gone race that wanted immortality, came up with convergence and
    all merged into the first moon.
    They get to live forever but they have to be apex predator cosmozoans constantly cycling the process over and over.

    • @toddkes5890
      @toddkes5890 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I figure the Brethren Moons use the Markers to transfer power, rather than create power. The Brethren Moons will test a new Marker first to make sure they can influence through it,and if so they will transfer power to that Marker. This ensures that the Brethren Moons have the link to the new location, and if someone tries to build a Marker without that influence link they do not get the power benefits

    I always wondered about the red marker and the Pedestal it was put on. We know, through lore, that the Pedestal was created to amplify the dead space signal stopping the outbreak when the marker was first tested on Ages 7 but what if it changed the marker as well?
    Once the marker was taken off the Pedestal the Necromorph infestation started up and once it was put back the infestation ended. All Necromorph fall over 'dead'.
    If the marker's plan is convergence then tricking Issac to put it back on the Pedestal is a bad plan because it would stop the Necromorphs. So that would be smart for it to trick the limited biomass.

    • @sussybaka6939
      @sussybaka6939 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It didn’t want it back on the pedestal. It wanted it on the planet to start the convergence event, from what I recall?

    • @mattstorm360
      @mattstorm360 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@sussybaka6939 As soon as the Marker is placed back on the pedestal every single necromorph 'died' and "Nicole", the Marker, thanked Issac. "Thank you, Isaac. I always believed in you. I knew you return to me. We are whole again, Issac... we are whole..." Then it released a field that took down the gravity tethers.
      After some more thinking, i got a new theory on what happened. The pedestal amplified the marker signal allowing it to infect Isaac's mind. Stross got the marker codes after holding it.
      My guess is getting the codes from the marker signal takes time if you are close to it and nearly instant when you hold it and at the moment the marker was made whole with the pedestal it could upload the marker codes fully into Isaac's mind. The tethers failing was to give him motivation to get the fuck off the planet.

    • @rubencastro811
      @rubencastro811 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pedestal is said in the text log to be a transmitter that amplifies the Marker's signal. Not just the "dead space". The doctors might've initially built it so they could use the "dead space" to protect themselves, but that wasn't its sole purpose.

    • @physical_insanity
      @physical_insanity 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the reason for the infestation stopping once the Marker was replaced is because the Marker was not originally intended to be the source of the outbreak. That would be the monster at the end or something. The Marker was intended to be a device to keep the monster and it's outbreak at bay, and by removing it from the pedestal, the Marker would give people visions and encourage them to put it back in order to curb them outbreak. That's why the Necromorph outbreak stopped after Isaac replaced the Marker. At least, that's what I read from a comment a few years ago. After Dead Space 2, however, that was not the case anymore.

    One thing that I've been toying with is the potential of creating an "anti-necromorph" scenario. I/E, if you were to create a plan with the express purpose of combating the necromorphs, how would you go about it? For instance, we see in the movies and games that some of the primary reasons that the necromorph outbreak on Aegis 7 and the Ishimura were able to spread so quickly were due unitologist sabotage (stockpiling of bodies on the colony and ship, sabotaging systems and the response so that you hinder any attempt at making an organized effort, and committing mas suicide to fuel the horde).
    So, if you were to be in command of a ship such as the Ishimura and you had to deal with a necromorph outbreak, what would you do to either contain or destroy, or failing that attempt to keep the crew alive for as long as possible? (For the sake of the scenario, immediately destroying the marker is off the table; even if you can destroy it, it should be an absolute last resort.)
    Personally I think the idea of consolidating in and fortifying certain decks was a good idea, maybe set up a system where you attempt to cremate as many bodies as you can to destroy biomass, but how would you get around the breakdown in communications? How would you prevent the necromorphs from using vents?

    I have a question
    Does the number of red markers on a planet influence the signal strength during convergence?
    For example, if the population of an entire planet had been killed by necromorphs, does a single black marker alone could send all the biomass into space, or does the native species of the planet have to create several red markers across the planet for the convergence to be successfull ? (As on Tau Volantis)
    I think the 2nd option is more reasonable
    Also, why did a convergence start on the Sprawl ? I don't think there was enough biomass to create a moon (I may be wrong)
    Maybe there can be little moon, much bigger than a hive mind but smaller than a moon
    Like in Halo with proto-gravemind then gravemind

    To me Dead Space 3's goofy reveal of big bad moons is never going to be canon and they need to redo the entire game because of that. If someone from the present had traveled back in time and told me that the main antagonists of Dead Space, a series made famous for its depraved, creative, horrific villain designs, was actually just a bunch of big angry moons, I would have punched them in the face and called them a stupid liar. There is cleary WIRITING on the markers. Some form of incredibly intelligent race of beings with vast knowledge of biology created the markers for an unknown reason. This mystery is one of the coolest and scariest things in the Dead Space mythos and the cop-out that big moons are the real masterminds behind the markers is by far one of the dumbest story ideas I have ever seen in gaming history. Remake 1, remaster 2, and completely remake every aspect of 3 and we'll have the best horror trilogy of all time.
