Honestly, it's amazing that a 5TH grade teacher is teaching students financial things, ex. rent, paychecks etc. when high school and even college don't normally teach things like this, it is amazing,
Help me understand. You’re saying that people don’t understand basic concepts like rent and pay checks until after uni? How would they live from 18 to graduating uni?
I would love to see a video explaining your flexible seating in the classroom! I also teach fifth grade and use flexible seating. I just would like to see more of your routines surrounding it and expectations 🙂
I'm a 5th grade teacher and LOVE the idea of a classroom economy... But I rotate between 3 different classes and have about 70 students between the 3, so I'm not sure how I'd manage this with so many students. Plus, some jobs don't need to be done all day. For example, only my homeroom would have jobs like taking breakfast count and tidying up at the end of the day. I'm stumped on how I could realistically implement this
i love this! i think the one thing i might change would be bathrooms. i think 3 per day is super generous, but if your have ‘lady problems’ and need to go more than 3 times i would definitely let them go without fining then. :)
My 2nd grade teacher had a very similar classroom economy. She didn't do rent or have us do checks or anything but we did get "money" for things in the class store. My teacher had bookmarks, erasers, stickers, fidget toys, boncey balls and some other stuff. I liked getting bookmarks and erasers. It was fun for everyone and we liked our jobs too.
Can you do a video on advice for moving to an upper elementary grade? This could include advice for behavior management, upper elementary interests, or even your go-to resources/tips for teaching different subjects.
Hi! I absolutely love your videos, especially this one! Although just a little bit of some advice. I would personally get some suckers and put those in for $1 because kids love suckers! Also, for the Gatorades, I would take them out of the plastic to make it easier to grab and hand them to the kids instead of sitting there trying to get the plastic off the Gatorade bottle. Lastly, with the candy.... I LOVE the candy idea, trust me! I would get more candies, like Kit-Kats, M&M's, and Starburst and maybe even some almond joys even and put them all into a bin and make it pretty and nice instead of just the cardboard box. But overall, I LOVE the classroom store and your classroom economy! I also tried to word it best and nicely as possible, so sorry if any of this came off as rude. Again, I know as you mentioned you buy all of this with your own money, so maybe what you have now works, but maybe what I recommended, could work after Winter break or even in the next following years! Love your videos and teaching style! :)
I think you should have jars for different activities for the class that they can put there money in & once the reach a certain amount they earn the reward
I went to a private Montessori school for my entire elementary experience, and as awesome as it was, I do sometimes wish I was able to experience a lot of the public school elementary things. If I was able to pick any classroom to go to for my fifth grade it would most definitely be this one. Ms wooly you are amazing, and so is your class. From the flexibility in seating to the classroom economy, I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to be able to go here. Never stop, your students are so lucky.
So I love your ideas and am going to be using some of them for my 4th graders ☺️ I am genuinely curious, though, how you carve out time from the school day to do all of this. How much time are you devoting to this every day/week? Is it on the kids to do?
Have you thought about sharing a post office box where we could send you things for your class/store? We desperately need to make sure you have some corgi things. You were very smart to make your own classroom money... one of our teachers used monopoly money and that went WILD nearly immediately.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I have a question, when you mentioned that you give them weekly paychecks, how do you keep track of it all with everything else going on?
I know its a late comment but i admit, im curious. Say if a bad storm rolls through the town and knocks out some of the kids power at home, until morning or later in the night for example, would they still have to "pay for electricity" or if their family is going through a rough time?
What about financial interactions between students? Are students allowed to borrow and lend to one another in case they may be short on funds for an immediate need?
I’m trying to figure out how to utilize this for after school-some kids aren’t here for certain days and others leave early almost daily. How do kids receive those coupons?
You should make a 50 one of you husband for in a special day at school on a holiday and that get 50 and you should do a birthday cake for 100 for a student birthday 🎂
So I was thinking when you were talking about how this can cost money and some people may be on a tight salaries. Maybe try writing a letter to a company that you may want to support you and tell them what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how this has an impact on your students. The company may really like what you’re doing and want to support you by donating something. There may even be some local companies in your area that may want to support another local person in our community as well. So just some thought to some of those people that may not have the money to pull out of there own pocket. Just another creative way that they may be able to do this.
Literally best teacher ever!
Yeah totally❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love that you’re teaching them about financial responsibility ❤

Yes, I agree!
Same!
Should have your kids design & draw a currency symbol each year, then the class votes the one to use.
Did that!
Great idea
I would love to be in her class!
I’m actually going into 5th grade when school starts again…😢

You have so many good ideas that when I am older I want to become a teacher and I will take loads of inspiration from u ❤
This is FABULOUS!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
I bought a large set of erasable pens and "sold" them individually in my store. They were by far the most popular items for my fourth graders.
My 2nd grade teacher had a very similar classroom economy. She didn't do rent or have us do checks or anything but we did get "money" for things in the class store. Good video also second liked. have nice day
I will be introducing a classroom economy in my class next year to incentivize and help with classroom management!Thank you.
Great information! Thanks for sharing!
The money should be called Woolley’s and the class creates with Jordan a symbol each year to represent the Woolley’s
I love this! Just don't know if this would work for my 6th grades classes i.e. 120 plus students.
This is such a fun and cute idea and will help them alot with being responsible

my teachers could never

Are you self-contained or departmentalized? And do you prefer one over the other?
I was the 76th person to like your video
You make me wanna be a teacher
Where did you get your citing/explaining evidence reading board resources? Can you leave a link?
After watching this I asked my middle school teacher to do this and her answer was will you buy the stuff if yes then I will do it
But taxes
You mentioned adding this to TPT, but I'm not seeing it. Do you still plan to make that available??

You need to stamp the back of the dollars so they can’t make their own
You should make a 50 one of you husband for in a special day at school on a holiday and that get 50 and you should do a birthday cake for 100 for a student birthday 🎂
