    What’s a tuner?

  • @albobarhop

    My vote is 1 rev 18. The poi is relatively close on the 1 rev 15 and 20 with consistently small groups. As you said. Not optimal though. Llos like it got whipped into shape fairly decently though

    My picks have yet to be selected. But my $0.02 is to choose R+20. Your results are already better than I thought would be achievable.
    Looking forward to the continuation load video. My guess 1.7 inch smaller group at 600 yds

    This is so amazing that you are doing this with your audience’s participation.This is a great learning tool about combination of thing that work and not so well. I also think the 1 rev.18 would be the spot with a little tweaking on powder.Thanks John for all you do for this community.

    I am training to shoot as well as you at 100 yds with reloads. I am learning to shoot free recoil, and I am going back and forth working on my grip. I used to shoot thumb over the wrist. I tried my thumb alongside the stock and I got bruises on the back of my knuckles.

    I feel like 1 rev 20 close to if not under a 1/2" group. I realize it could be a little better, but that should be tight enough to put up a good score? Good luck on Tuesday.

  • @erick7862
    @erick7862 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    None of these groups is good enough or has the inter-group consistency at the level John shoots at. Forced to pick, I would look between 25 and 30 on the first revolution. It seems like that’s the best vertical groups and has the most similar shaped groups on either side, maybe see if you can tighten up the group sizes by exploring that range.
    But honestly, is is so interesting to see how your group sizes are totally fried the moment you go down the wrong path in your first test of second test. It’s like those books where you can choose your own story. 1 wrong turn and the whole thing is baked.

    I found with my Harrells tuner/brakes after 16 test groups there is usually 3 times the groups are really small.
    Pick the closest group to 0 as the Harrells tuners are over top of the barrel not on the end of the muzzle like Cortinas tuners.
    ps: the Harrells tuner/brakes are superior in machined quality, operational and overall appearance looking on the barrels.

      true ; initially when I was testing my Harrels tuner/brake I would test all 16 stages , 5 shot groups 3 times
      this showed me proof that every 6 to 7 stages I got an acceptable node so now I only test the first 8 stages.
      It saves ammo but I still to that test 3 times. 1 test of 8 stages is not enough.

  • @DLN-ix6vf
    @DLN-ix6vf 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    with my Harrels tuner/brakes I will get a good node every 6 to 7 stages out of 16 in total
    when I tune with mine I only go to 8 stages as this will give me one good node for that bullet weight & powder charge.

    50 through 70 are all close and show that the barrel wants to tune here. Nothing crazy going on in that given range. However the 65 is the elephant in the room. The change in point of impact makes me want to ignore it and move to 60 or 70 as the proper setting. I would love to test 60 and 70 again but can't so I will pick 70 .

    Between zero and 5 .
    Or between 50-55.

    This is the point where I have to know my limits and abstain. I know you turn the tuner, and that changes the tune, but I have no frame or reference or scale for if moving by 5 is a little, a lot, or moderate.
    I paused before clicking the "comment" button - I really should at least take a stab at it. 25 and 30 look similar, but have a lot of horizontal stringing. Ironically, 40, 45, R1-0, and R1-5 all have similar centers of the point of impact, so the actual group patterns between them aren't on the level of precision we're looking for. It'd be an okay "plinking" load for just banging steel. Rev1-15 and Rev1-20 look promising, but that's a big vertical shift in the points in impact, comparatively speaking, and Rev1-20 is vertically strung too.
    I think that if you were intimately familiar with your tuner settings and testing parameters, you could probably use the tuner to stay at that level of precision to match the weather conditions. You'd be safe with Rev1-15 and Rev1-20 then, but that's a tall order. I think that's the best answer you're going to get from me.
    Good shooting, by the way. They might not be groups you're proud of, but that's on the load and equipment. Your shooting is what allowed all of us to try to read them as they are.

    3 shot groups will not give any significant information. I would bet you could pick the worst load, and it would be roughly the same as the load you pick on a 10 or 20 shot string for group size. Your theory only works if you have significant info that the other ones didn't work, with significant shots like 20+. You could have picked 4 or 5 loads and had 20+ rounds each instead of 37, 3 shot groups. You will still have to shoot 10-30 to prove you theory on the load you picked. You could have been 20-60 rounds in and been done. Seems like you wasted more time and components than needed.
