I laughed at his evident disdain for golf. Also this reminds me of some strange, very old artwork I saw at the Guillermo del Toro exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto last year. It never changed or moved, but it had a certain gravity that gave me the creeps. I'm enjoying this series!
ahh, after a long day of staring at numbers on a screen, it's always nice to unwind with a Horrorbabble story
arachnonixon this channel can't be beat!
I've been re-listening to your catalogue, putting your channel on each night when I lay down to sleep. I like this one. The commentary on golf is just great.
I studied art history and have some knowledge of the field, so this one really caught my attention! Many thanks for your superb reading of a chilling tale!
The way golf gets picked on is pretty funny - but this story genuinely made me feel pretty uneasy - might have to watch something funny later on so I'm not creeped out for the rest of the day.
You have an excellent voice for James - countless readings of this story exist, but you have nailed it.
If it wasn’t for M. R. James we wouldn’t have stories like The Conjuring, Insidious, The Ring, The Grudge, The Fog, Poltergeist, The Shining, The Amityville Horror, The Haunting of Hill House, and countless other ghost stories by multiple authors from around the world.

Great reading of one of my favourites from The Master. What a fantastic channel this is, and your Lovecraft channel too!
My Edwardian primary school had a "Red Library" that always smelled of pipe smoke and had an old portrait of an Elizabethan gentleman who we all believed had eyes that followed us about the room......
Sounds fabulous!
@@HorrorBabble It was a creepy room. We also had a haunted assembley hall with a piano that played itself!
I miss those spooky old hallways!!
Thank You and Merry Christmas!
Simply wonderful, I am enjoying this series immensely. Thank you very much!
I love horror stories that involve art. Rod Serling's "Night Gallery" TV show did that in the 1970s.
another fine performance of a classic tale - thank you Ian
Good to hear of another Britnell in the story!
This was a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. You did an awesome job of narrating it.
I thank you for a good story.
Great content. Totally enjoying these stories.
...and then A SKELETON POPPED OUT...
...very...
...very...
...slowly.
(Pretty fine story though.)
One of the scariest stories ever
One of the truly terrifying stories.
Love a bit of M. R. James 😁👍
Great reading, as always. But once again, the music stands out. Couldn't put my finger on it until right now, but it reminded me of Chrono Cross, just can't remember where. It's not important!
An ambient dark music, James, who is so mysterious to me, only that his stories are kinda short. As for your plan to re-read this piece, you’re fast. Though I cannot tell you how much you’re lullabies mean to me, I am forever grateful. 🌹🎩🌙✨
Now I remember, is similar to the story, The Painting, By the same author. Did not mean fast, in the sense of narration, on FAST, in performing your tasks. Please, this is a great pace. ✨🎩❤️
Thanks John! I know you prefer the slower-paced readings... I just tend to go with the flow. These 'lighter' tales bring out a certain energy in me. Ian
HorrorBabble, fast, in the sense of tasking. Not pace, sir✨🎩🌹 perfect perfect
Ah, I see - thank you John! You should read more of M. R. James' work: www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/8486/pg8486.html
HorrorBabble wow, thank you. I found a copy of, I think it was called Antiquated Ghost Storie, her, on TH-cam; last night. But this link looks like GOLD ✨🎩🙏🏽🌹
HorrorBabble thank you so much. I found some of his work' on Horror Vault, also. Gutenbrug seems like a dream, thank you
