This is a bit misleading. The iTunes backup is different to the iCloud backup. The iTunes backup is more comprehensive, it backs up more than what the iCloud backup deems 'essential', including apps, and third party application data.
Got a question......What happens if you are charging your phone away from wifi, is iCloud backing up then and using up your data plan and if so is there a way to control your iCloud backing up till you are back in wifi range?

I'm really desperate right now because I can't do a backup of my iPhone on iTunes or iCloud because it says "the phone is disconected" when it is all plugged in. +Steffany Vizcaino That's weird. Here is what I would do. Download Google Photos, sign in with a Google account, choose unlimited free backup, and then just use Google Photos. It's what I use and I have over 30,000 photos backed up there for free.

I typically use iCloud backup just because it’s simple and I have been able to keep the backups under the free plan. I still occasionally do an iTunes backup to have a local copy just in case.

It’s August 2017 and I’ve always used iTunes backup. Now I’ve switched to iCloud backup and honestly it’s much better. It took about 10 hours on iOS 11 beta 4 to backup on iCloud overnight. I’m albeit worried that it if it doesn’t backup everything that iTunes backs up such as app data.

Hi I have multiple devices under one iCloud account. I have four iPhone and one iPad. I was told that when multiple devices share one iCloud account, all the content from all devices is mixed together, For example contacts and photos. When you first get into your iPhone after a restore it'll ask you to enter the passwords for your email addresses, that's all. It'll still have them setup the way you did before.
The title shows iTunes vs. iCloud, but you completely rule out iTunes backup. There are different backup. The iTunes will also backup apps. Why didn't you cover that?

+cyrinix You actually get a warning that you have too much stored to go down to that plan. I can't recall if it will actually let you downsize your plan without closing up some space.

Yes you can use both options. However, using one will turn off the other, so you need to make sure that you have the appropriate options turned back on when you are done.

corbgold Just for contacts?? 😂 What you must do was make a apple id which ends with @gmail.com and every contacts will be synced to google servers. All the contacts will come back when you authorise mail app with that same google account which is also your apple id

It depends. If you have a lot to back up, it could require a larger iCloud account. However, backing up to your computer is also a single point of failure. Should something happen to your computer, you lose everything, especially if you lose your phone at the same time.

If you had reseated you old phone before you restore the on the new on with the iCloud do you still have all your staf or not?
