Not that everyone will do this but once again... Take the time to finish this before you go and leave a comment. There's good, there's bad. Take time to acknowledge that... Also one point that I missed... I want to echo points made by Datto and various others about that one scene with our Ghost... Bungie... Give our guardians a voice please... That scene was just... dumb... :p
My name is Byf any ideas on why they didn't have a dent in St. 14's helmet? Or at least a cosmetic item that gives it one? I was pretty disappointed in that. As a lore nerd it would have been amazing to see, to really feel like I had the helmet of a legendary Titan. I would even go back to using the Sentinel class instead of the Striker class just to use it. On the other hand they missed a chance to pull in more players to exploring the lore. I know people would wonder why it was dented and search the answer out. Keep up the great content though!
Diologe bungee come on please in next expansion. It could be a thing of just cutscenes and not during actual gameplay. Please even if it's yes and no s I'll be fine with it Also Osiris and the exo stranger call ghost little light is there a connection. Ow and we officially have another name for a ghost besides ghost thank the traveler
I also got really excited and my hopes ran wild when Ikora said she'd go with us on the last mission, I though she would be fighting along side me shooting nova bombs and being all badass but then she pulled a Dinkle bot and literally just opened a door for us to go through
The Cinema Cowboy they gotta make a commitment to the people that kept the game alive. If not for the Hardcore game community there would be nobody left
JACorvin Yeah but that would be easier when the “hardcore” fans are consistent which their not. The last several months of artificial outrage from gamers and the press has not been about consistency but rather a game of moral one-upsmanship for the purposes of feeling better about themselves.
I can believe, that, as Destiny has great story telling potential and tons of material to which it can pull from. Sadly, Bungie has no fucking clue how to actually use it and their story potential just becomes wasted by mediocre characters, incompetent story telling, and very generic enemies that are just there.
The Cinema Cowboy Many people are genuinely frustrated because, like me, they loved Destiny 1 and spent months if not years playing it on a daily basis - despite its flaws.. Yet Destiny 2 has released and many of us have lost interest in the game within the first month. In many ways it is as if they have exaggerated D1's flaws and left behind much of what made it great regardless (challenging, replayable gameplay). We are £65 into D2 and it is still much less interesting than D1. I agree that some people simply wish to pour salt on the game for the sake of it but the vast majority are quite rightly upset at the blatant act of suppuku by Bungie.
The second I walked into that portal to Past Mecury, I was in awe. The landscape was astounding. It was beautiful, colorful...and I wish that area could be revisited to be explored. It's a real shame that it can't be.
I would love to experience a stealth mission in the future. Silencer, assassination type mission. Destiny never really had that concept before. Would be a great risk imo
I don't think they could make it work solely due to the nature of the game. First person, pacing, verticality and enemy A.I are all designed around first person and shooting constantly. Not to mention the encouragement and use of powers. Taken King had that one mission where you "stealthed" about and it was arguably one of the more boring missions. Not because it poor design, just because well the building blocks of the game do not support it well.
I wouldn't even say sad, I'd say depressing. The fact dlc comes out 3 months after the game comes out. The fact it actually needs dlc to come out to keep the player base from leaving in droves so soon. I left after the "campaign" in the dlc. the replay value to me is 0 even with all the updates coming. They just don't look good enough for me to hardcore it again. I put 808 hours into d1and that's just on ps4
TheLegendaryChicken same here was a gluten for punishment but when there’s nothing else to do like literally nothing what can you do. They should just pull the plug on Destiny and let it die with what little honor it has left or if it has any ☹️
sci-fi Guy with one character and it’s just the story. How is that sad. Personally I think it’s too long. I have all 3 characters and by the time I ran through it the 3rd time It was very repetitive. Only casuals complain that it was too short
Does anyone else find the mercury’s past are REALLY REALLY beautiful and hope they use that pallet and feeling more? I mean it was such a fresh departure from the worlds were used to and felt fantastic. A+ to the art team that designed these areas.
What did you think about Osiris' last line about the "Little Light?" Not sure how many people caught that, but it seems obvious Bungie put that in as an easter egg/ nod to our desire to know more about the exo stranger.
Closet Nerd Gaming I did the campaign and when that quote showed up I was like “Hold on, what did you say.” Literally recorded it and played it back just to make sure I heard right. I’ve had some theories as to why he could have said that, but they’re all far fetched so it might just be wishful thinking.
Definitely. And he says they have all the time of the world. The Exo stranger didn‘t have time to tell why she has no time. I think that‘s a hint, too.
Actually, I have a theory of my own! We now know cayde was once human and became an eco. So.. could the exonstranger be Osiris from the future? A future where he lost his body or turned to an exo to continue fighting the darkness? Just food for thought.
I was gonna mention something about that too, some of the lore for one of the ships has a conversation between Maya sundaresh and her ghost, pointing further to Maya and Osiris knowing one another, also, in D1 the stranger is talking to a voiceless and faceless person over her coms. Osiris maybe? How else would she have the information she did about the vex unless she was working closely with someone enamored deep into the vex network like Osiris is?
The infinite forest hype is basically the farm to me... Look at this! It's so cool! By the way you'll be here like twice because we move everything to the new tower... And look at this really cool travel space to get to whatever activity on mercury! Both could have been much better...
Cameron Sessions they should made the farm available through the EDZ, not that you have to travel to it and then to the edz and lots of people will visit it. Right now it's most likely filled with new players only
Dude, I hate what they did with Vance. He was a dark, mysterious blind man in D1. I wanted to know more about the cult. And then you dig in and he's a glorified fan boy. He's uninteresting and incredibly annoying. I get that humor is subjective, but none of it landed for me. It was ridiculous in how silly it was. It honestly could've been handled better and still been the same joke. They could be had Osiris and Vance not really ever cross paths, Vance maintaining a bit of his stoicism through out. Then, towards the end, have him finally meet his idol and just break down a bit in excitement. I still think it would be a terrible turn for Vance's character, but there at least would've been a better constructed joke in there.
I agree completely!! Bungie has done this with Cayde so much in D2, to a lesser extent, but still annoying. They've reduced these characters to one trait that's played for laughs over and over. Cayde is lazy and hates his job, Vance is a crazed fanboy. They were two really interesting characters that got butchered for the sake of a joke that gets old so quickly. :/
Yup the portrayal of Brother Vance and the cult as bumbling fanboys and girls that Osiris pretty much ignores is infuriating. It's like the trials didn't even exist.
@@zanabes I'm just happy they killed Cayde off. He didnt really suit the tone of the game. The last mission with him felt like a Guardians of the Galaxy scene.
as much as i would of loved a vex raid, i like that they are doing a raid lair Its hard to make a raid and lets be real, Crota was fun but not long lasting. So they are choosing to go small for now and is a bit safer. Of course i'd love a new vex raid but a new raid what, 3 months after release would of been poorly made if you ask me
xX DankestMemestThe69th Xx the leviathan has been using mercury as energy sucking it up. It could have sucked vex up and the lair could still be vex themed? Or have they confirmed it to be something else?
Things I didn’t like: The campaign needs to be longer than a couple of hours. Especially with a story as deep as this one. I hate how you meet Osiris at the end of the game, and dips after talking for 5 minutes. Mercury is an absolutely tiny map compared to the others. Infinite forest doesn’t feel infinite nor does it feel like a simulation. Another thing: Heroic Strikes and Heroic Adventures should have been in the game since the beginning. The game really just feels like a side quest that you unlock after defeating Ghaul. They could literally put a cut scene like this “6 months later” then “Ikora brings up Sagira” The Curse of Osiris starts.
An EliteSpartan Well in Saint 14's exotic ship it mentions he's dead, and in one mission, you can find a secret point in a wall where a body is floating, respectfully placed, most likely saint 14
This game has set your expectations so low that you’re praising a frickin horizon... byf, this expansion can be summed up in one word: disappointing. The lore and mystery about Osiris has been ruined... they’ve fucked him up, and they can never go back now. He’s done. Let’s move on from him now. And that’s why destiny is fucking awful.
You're absolutely right. I paid for Destiny 2 AND both expansions and what did I get? Reskinned weapons, microtransactions, and still empty, boring characters (except for Cayde). I can stand in one spot, or hide on a high place and shoot monotonous swarms of enemies, there are no difficulty levels, and the raid was absolutely horrible.
Just because you did not like it does not mean other people cant enjoy a game yes the story was a little underwhelming The senery was out of this world so to sum it up We dont all have to like the same thing
The one thing that bugged me was the contradiction in lines from Ikora. Beginning of the DLC: "Osiris taught me what it was to be a Warlock." Halfway through DLC: "Osiris didn't understand there was more to being a Warlock beyond being the smartest one in the room." MAKE UP YOUR MIND
Jason Boyd, This actually makes sense if you think about it. Osiris taught Ikora what it meant to be a warlock, but that does not mean she has to accept literally everything. It was just Osiris’ perception of what a warlock should entail. However, Ikora thought that Osiris did not realize that there was more to being a warlock beyond being the smartest person in the room. I understand your intent though but I think it was supposed to make everyone really think about it, such as what it really means to be a warlock and really hammer home the differences between Ikora and Osiris and how their perceptions shape the world of powerful warlocks, as well as their relationship with each other. I hope this helps. 😃
Its funny how Destiny 1 & 2 and most of the expansions have the same sounding reviews, its always the talk of its potential potential potential. Three years is way to long to stand by a “potentially” great game. For those that stand by this game I envy your ability to continue on with this franchise.
Ralph Ryder Yeah, destiny isn't a game where you play story missions and know everything. You'll find informations in nearly every activity, little things on planets and gear.
Man, I sometimes cannot conjure up the words to display my feelings about Destiny's content, and when this happens, all missing words are taken directly out of my mouth and said in your videos. Great critical aspect, great jib on displaying expectations for those who don't watch all of your videos or are new to the community, and great video overall. As always, I will be watching. Keep the greatness coming.
I have to say, while it isn't game changing, i feel that this expansion did a bit more then i thought. WHILE the grinding for the vance weapons is driving me nuts, i like that it forces you to go do shit. I like a lot of the new weapons and exotics and the story, while short was super satisfying Plus yea the final boss was easy like Ghaul, but was far more enjoyable So yea, this feels like a good expansion or at least a bit better then i thought. Looking forward to the raid lair on friday
Great vid Byf! On a side note - I realized watching this video how awesome it is when you say "forking" :) Thank you accent for making that work sound so awesome!
Eric Bracero idk if you'd want to know it not but at risk of spoilers they directly mention what's up with Saint-14 in the lore tab of one of the exotic ships.
You can see Saint-14s body on mercury when you're in the "dark future". So he definitely does in the future, but may still be alive now. He could still make an appearance at some point, or come across him if we go into the past again.
Sorry Byf but I gotta disagree with you on this one and I hardly do. I was disappointed in this DLC. For it to be based on as they say "The greatest Guardian that ever lived" it didn't measure up to that statement at all. What makes Osiris so great?? What makes Osiris...Osiris?? They could have dove way deeper into this than just crap and the reskinned weapons they made. Example the pulse rifle that looks exactly like the patience in time. Smh.... and let's not talk about the infinite forest they could have worked wonders with it but just made it utterly boring. I'm not gonna go deeper into how Bungie is literally a titanic and is taking it's crew and fans down with it, but as a die hard, grinder and apart of the vast community who tries to stay loyal to Destiny we have room to critique Bungie and the crap they are giving us and it's just that. Crap. Honestly I feel they should just scrap the whole project and just start putting money and projects back into D1.
I agree. He was this sunsinger of legend... and I feel like it could have been something a lot more interesting. Let's watch osiris bake a thousand goblins with an aura of sunsinger solar flame, not watch sagira and him deal with a handful of vex like it's the end of the world. I feel like they need to take a card out of blizzard's hat, and do their cinematic and story like Starcraft. Give you insane tools at your disposal, and put you up against insane enemies. Don't give me 'balanced' tools and put me up against 'commensurate' enemies. I dunno, I played starcraft II's vanilla campaign, and I was immersed. I felt like a god. I invaded char, and held out against the queen of blades. THAT is a campaign that stands the test of time. Make destiny like that, and then you'll become legend
Byf as always excellent contact, terrific video and a wealth of information. Thank you from a Destiny fan and a person who felt very much the same way about the first time I saw the Mercury cut scene. I have never played a game which I have become so entangled with and it really is my hobby. Thank you for your excellent content as always. TheDX2
In the first mission in infinite forest the gate didn't unlock until after some time or I finally ran through a checkpoint but I did a adventure and had to go to orbit bc the portal didn't open
Hey byf I thank you for all the lore videos you put out. I watch them with my dad and we discuss our thoughts on the subject matter aswell and it has helped us to get closer. Thank you
Another great video sir! I would say my favorite part of the Osiris DLC is the grind for materials for the Verse weapons, very nostalgic of year one Destiny. Keep up the great work!
oh yeah they also answered how osiris was at all the fights at the batlle of six fronts he just made some of those... mirrors of himself... i guess... rick and (morty the game)
Really enjoyed this. A nuanced opinion on what was good, and what wasnt. This is what the game needs, instead of people just outright saying that everything is bad. Thank you for these videos, love watching them in my sparetime. Keep doing you, and keep up the great work.
Thanks for showing me where the lore is, I was not paying attention as well as I thought, due partly to the lack of scanable objects in the campaign. Excellent vid, Cheers!
Just wanna say as a fellow warlock I wanna say thanks for your videos. It is because of your lore vids that has revitalized my love for Destiny. Thanks and keep on keepin on byf
About osiris, maybe he is gonna get the eris morn treatment, in dark below she was pretty plain just like the story, yet the hive's whole story got expanded in ttk, like eris's. hopefully the vex will get a $40 expansion where everything gets everything get more development.
or maybe even a forge like mode, since it's a simulation engine we can build our own horde stages or advetures, or at the very least have areas we can explore in the past present and future towers of the forest
You give Bungie too much credit. You talk about this limitless massive universe and lore all the time and yet they confine themselves to the same 4 enemy types for 4 years now. No new factions, classes, races, and you saying this dlc was worth it because you are a lore guy and they put even more unexplained shit in this game is really a week excuse to be okay with this dlc. This is not the dark souls universe. This is lazy writing.
datboiwholived I enjoy lore. The soulsborne universe is one of my favorite filled with deep and interesting lore on top of a great game. Destiny is lazy in implementing their lore
Rubin McCack I wouldn't say lazy, it's just different. You get lore from scanning objects you have to find, gear you need to obtain and so on. I like that, other games throw all the lore and story in your face during story missions.
datboiwholived you have no clue what a proper implementation of lore is. Go play a dark souls game. Read every piece of gear or consumable you pick up and see how all of it ties into the world. Destiny is lazy.
Byf I have to tell you to find the voice line in the Strike were we fight the Root Mind and our ghost talks about what he saw when Sagira took over his body. Our ghost talks about how all his saw was only darkness and in the darkness he saw a very small traveler, I find that the short dialog that our ghost added there is a huge part to something we might see later on in terms of story.
And was the same for the House of Wolves and longer for TDB... This was something I touched on in the video. It's somewhat on par for a $20 expansion. Is it what I wanted... Probably not, but consider that you're playing the campaign once versus the other content which you'll be playing for much longer... You start to see why you're not looking to put all this time in.
I originally was very displeased with the new dlc, but after watching videos by you going in depth about the lore and the history of these characters and how they effect the story my overall view changed. I do wish they'd do more quality of life updates and listen more to the community; but at the price for what it is, it's not that bad. Subscribed and liked.
Great job Byf. Always a delight when you put up a video. I agree with you on both the high and low points of the DLC. But overall, I am happy and hopeful. I was truly hoping the Infinite Forest would be a new form of Prison of Elders... Well, I am stil happy. Again, thanks Byf for all you do!
Click more if want add to my comment. Guys are fricking Kidding me We are letting Bungie Screw Us over and over. They have had 3 years of constant i mean constant feed back yet they ignore almost all of it . Have you ever wondered why D2 has the Same Problems as D1. The map is the size of a 8v8 map from d1 and they dont even let us use sparrows on it. The Game itself just doesn't feel complete . That because COO and The Warmind Dlc are actually part of d2 exect they just selling us the bits and peices to us .A game on launch should be finished. They should'nt sell us bits and peices to actually complete it. They said that they been working sense lauch but have they really. Their Soo much evidence of COO in D2 unlocking into different area's. COO was part of the original game . They repeating exactly what they did to us in D1 with house of wolfs and dark below. What they are trying to push on is anti cosumer. Did you know that over 70% of the player base was dropping. Yet when community was speaking out about this bungie completey took it down out of panic. They said that we taking down the daily population data due to fact that people are spreading false information. Now most the conent is locked behide the eververse. On top of that Fricking Promotheus len is compltey broken it shreds someone in 2 secounds . Like what are they thinking do then even test what they put out . Promthesus lens was made to tilt the player base who dindt have COo so they feel pressured to buy it . TTK humor compard to D2 humor all points to the fact their shifting demographics. Think about how explaing this guy is the bad guy or this good guy . Its easy simplistic stuff that 7 sevan year old can understand .Dont even get started on eververse scam of lower xp too. The Point is they littlery shitting on community that cares about destiny and compltey being lazy as fuck . Yet we continue the support this shit show . Destiny has some much potential, But big greedy fucks likes actvidsion and who ever is making the executive decisions in Bungie are only in it for the cash grab . Peace Sorry byf , i think bascily took a shit on your front lawn . Destiny is mostly all your content and hated on it. I have deep respect for you . You were the one fricking blasted my mine about Destiny lore . But Destiny has gone down the crapper If want add more to my comment list a griefence or complaint and want add to my paragraph. I credit u. But try to make fit in my paragraph
The mercury public space is most defnitely a rejected combined arms map from Destiny1 , you have a middle region for B control point and 2 on either sides which mirror each other for A and C control points. Even the road tracks indicate that this map was built for sparrows to be used. What a waste of a game Destiny has become. LOL
Osiris's reflections explain how he was "in more than one place" at the Battle of Six Fronts and how he was in a constant radiance when he and eris talked to the Queen. Love how they planned that very early on.
3:30 I so hope one day we'll get an expansion that has vast open spaces like 'past Mercury'. Those fields looked absolutely amazing, the best looking and most immersive location in D2 by far. I just went around to explore the whole thing but there were barriers. The largest destination, EDZ, is pretty cool but it values gameplay first; meaning the location is unnaturally tightly packed. A more open air, immersive, Withcer 3 style location would be fantastic. Big open areas in between areas of interest, not mere tunnels like those on Nessus (however I like Nessus for what it is).
Saint 14 in my opinion is undoubtedly the most Impressive GUARDIAN in destiny, people say Osiris is the most famous warlock ever but why? All he has done was study taboo ways then venture off into a limitless realm claiming but a fraction of the Vex’s true power and potential for himself, then returns decades later to be praised like a GOD, im glad that even bungie acknowledge he is a man with limits, that his reputation far proceeds himself and that his essentially blind followers (namely brother Vance) have immortalised him, to me he is nothing more than a successful pradyeth or a mortal toland. Some say he was mis-incarnated yet deeper knowledge and taboo arts has always been a further motive and thus a practise for notoriously infamous warlocks. Bungie had infinite options for where to go and what to do with this DLC, and yet they limit it, don’t get me wrong the story was beautiful, interesting and exciting and like all new destiny content always manages to put a smile on my face. Yet I can’t help but feel they’ve narrowed down there options almost rushed the lore behind the story for a quicker pay check, or for the novices in this destiny universe. Now with saint 14 they have another invaluable opportunity to explore the limitless realm of destiny, yet I fear they will never go there or worse kill him off cheaply. Saint humbled himself after his defeat of the almighty kell, he could’ve returned home to the uproarious appraisal of the city, deemed a hero by its people and to the speaker, in that moment however he showed his honour, he showed us what type of man he was, turned his back on glory, defied his vows in the firebreak order and ventured out into the deep to find his lost, but loved brother, Osiris, leaving behind a mere token, being his helm, almost as a second act of defiance as against not only his oath, but to his nature. What was he without his iconic helmet, or the people’s love. It would seem he was more than he’s ever been, for if he was nothing without his helmet, then he shouldn’t deserve to have it. So he parted our world as what looked like a normal Titan, for maybe word of his legend and deeds spread through the system like wildfire, the kells deaf would not be taken lightly nor the victory itself, some out there would want his head, a bounty in disguise for he left his identity back home. He could’ve visited “the Nine” and learnt great power and knowledge, for it is known that they sell guardians exotics for they have no need for them, be it they have transcended the need for weapons and armour or in fact know of a greater, even deeper, perhaps darker power to throw away such exotic “gifts”. Maybe he returned home to mercury to reunite with the fire break order and re learn what it means to be a Titan, wether mercenary or not, if that be the case, he aside a select few, would be one of the only firebreak titans left after there death to the red legion. He could’ve followed Osiris into the time gates and gained unfathomable knowledge into time and space as we know it. Saint could even of been captured by avenging fallen and tortured but survived, or killed every single fallen for his offensive calculus that he met a fallen GOD, not a servitor demigod but elixni himself, in which who knows what would happen. All the threats we faced he may have encountered before hand and maybe worse. To kill of someone like this would be injustice not just to them, but to yourself. I feel like destiny’s full potential will never be reached and if so it would be a matter of decades to portray it, if they had the gumption, they would focus on there lore not give cheap nods to the book of sorrows. He Walked Out Into The Demon Light, But At The End He Was Brighter. That to me sounds sad, like a eulogy. How Much Good Could I Do, If I Find The Right Place, And Fight Until I Die? Enough said.🙏
yep view the lore tab for one of the ships and it is right after saint 14 killed the kell with a headbutt it also says how it will be after some time of his demise that Osiris will hear of it and how the guilt will wash over him or something
As usual, you do a great job of making this game sound way better than it actually is. This is a fucking terrible dlc. 20 quid of straight up robbery. One or two 'cool' ideas isn't enough. 2 hours is terrible. I don't care what anybody says. This is a great example of grooming. Bungie have been grooming the player base by releasing such shit content for years now, that even the smallest of 'cool' stuff, seems impressive.
WeejixDoWx Did you play all the DLCs from D1? If yes and you still expected more than a 2 hour story, you're the one to blame. Destiny isn't exactly famous for putting a 24 hour story into a DLC.
datboiwholived of course I played all the dlc from d1. I was conned into buying a season pass by a company who created one of my favourite games of all time. For one of the most anticipated new ips ever. The question is, did I fall for the same shit agin?? That would be a hell no, if I did I would be the problem. It took about 20 mins of playing D2 to realise it was terrible.
I think Bungie should seriously consider having you has a curator of the lore long-term. There's no way I could piece all of this together without your vids.
Well... I had thought they could have had osiris come back to the tower and elected the leader by new monarchy because of the speakers loss.. And they could have still added in the story but it was just like ghual.. Bad guy v good guy. Your the only person who can do anything... And then egg head walks back into the vex time cenario machine... That's it..
TGArecher 720 me too. I think that he may have something to do with the Exo Stranger. Well, I know that he does. She's clearly talking to someone else in the cutscene where you meet her and who else do we know who patrols the vex timelines?
It's strange because we have only heard one other character refer to Ghosts as "Little Light," that being the Exo Stranger. References to the Exo Stranger tend to cause excitement, because she is one of the most mysterious and enigmatic characters in all of Destiny.
So if $20 dollars is to pay mostly for the endgame then why are the majority of the endgame rewards only available from the Eververse? That seems like an issue to me.
Aa a d1 vanilla player, i absolutely love everything about d2. I like that i dont have to constantly grind to get stuff and be even with my friends. I go to school full time and i dont really have the time to play even an hour a day. So for me this is perfect . I just barely got up to 305 on monday. And thats only on one character the other ones i havent even played yet. Thanks for the videos byf! Keep em coming
I really like when you make these videos because I'm always curious on how you feel about bungie's actions. Personally i was disappointed with the campaign on a few fronts. The forest obviously, and I was really hoping for that companion AI. I felt pretty cheated when Ikora said she's go with us but in reality she just opened a door and sent us on our way. When it comes to length of campaign and bang for your buck, for this expansion especially, I think my need were met. The new gear (specifically the ships and sparrows) have blown my mind, they're much better than destiny has done yet. I'm loving all of the things apart from the campaign so can I really be mad that the campaign isn't perfect? I don't think so, especially when you look at the games past. This is the best they've ever done
i agree but the taken king was the best they've ever done i mean we learned everything we could about the hive and their beginnings this should of been that but with the vex and osiris and saint 14.
Ships and sparrows hold up this lackluster 20$ dlc for you? Well most people aren’t that easily pleased. Skyrim had a 15 dollar dlc that added like 20 more hours of gameplay on top of a 100 hour game with an actual story.
Rubin McCack I think it’s definitely unfair to compare destiny to Skyrim cause that’s just it they’re incomparable, bungie may never reach the greatness of Skyrim even though we want them too, they’re too concerned with making money and not listening to us. But yeah I’m satisfied with the vanity because all of that is a big reason I’ve kept playing, we all have our reasons though I guess 🤷🏻♀️
MyBebopBlues it’s just my opinion! Like I said I’m very concerned with the vanity of my warlock, and I’m pleased with all the new ships and guns and all that jazz. They could definitely do better though don’t get it twisted
Excellent byf as usual. Long time junky and understood the expansion as a whole. The one thing that escapes me is during the initial cut scene that red item targets Osiris and he throws his ghost out of harms way. What the hell was that? Keep up the great work and can’t wait for more from you.
The hardest part of each update is waiting untill I've completed the campaign before jumping into your videos again, Byf. It's easy to get swept up in the drama of the communities and lose one's objectivity. One thing I really like about the story in D2 is the progression along the "Become legend" path (possibly with the exemption of that poorly placed line by Gaul). In D1 we became the stuff of Legend. In D2 our "greatness" is starting to be acknowledged by others. Our ghost praises us and boasts to planetary contacts of our achievements. Sagira bangs on about how kick ass we are. Everyone in the Tower refers to us as that Guardian Zavalla won't shut up about. Even Ikora refers to us as he friend that "Makes a habit of the impossible". Everything points to us being the key difference in this reality that stops our enemies winning. The Exo Stranger searching realities until she finds us in the only reality where the vex are not on the moon. Osiris even states that he predicted everything and every outcome except us. We are the only thing that gives him hope we have a future. It's getting very rewarding digging into the lore.
First time I donvoted one of your videos. How can you agree with any of the shit Bungie is doing with the lore? You made a compelling argument that this world is on par with Warhammer in it's apocalyptic state. The üse new stories are just trash and are mostly bickering between characters who miss any depth and development. We Germans call those "Holzschnitz-Charaktere".
Hey Byf, nice video. Appreciate your fair perspective on things. Refreshing to see when compared to other parts of the community who seem to be out for blood. Completely agreed with you throughout the entire video. Favourite part of the whole campaign was stepping out onto lush Mercury and seeing the traveller there. I don't think I've been as dumbfounded in the entirity of destiny so far. My friend and I could barely bring ourselves to step through the portal to leave! Keep up the good work M
sorry, this story is garbage. it makes little sense. its non sensical. It's called "curse of osiris." What curse? And Osiris is barely in this game. He's in like two cut scenes and then leaves. just bad. Their writers are horrible. Their art design is phenomenal.
Hey Byf and fellow guardians! First, love love love all your videos! Second, I’m a Destiny 2 optimist. That could be because I’m not a hardcore gamer or just my outlook on life in general, but I am all about Destiny. The thing I remind my friends is; this game has only been out for 3 months. I started playing Destiny in year 3 (when I got an xbox), but from what I have heard about vanilla Destiny, it wasn’t spectacular and the game got better as it aged. Give it some time. ✌🏼🖖🏼
bigbigcheese2 Who the actual fuck still buys season passes in advance anymore? I didn't get this expansion, nor will I buy any more. This DLC is a pretty thorough nail in the coffin. :P
I am loving the game. The lore is a big part and I thank you for all your work. Its been great. I love this universe and I want to see more. I love the game for the fun and am not an endgame kind of person anyway...but I can understand those that are wanting more. I hope this loudness of those that can't be civil won't destroy something I find a lot of joy in. I thought the campaign was too short because I wanted more but also understand its not a full section. I really do think they are moving in the right direction, they just have to get through the growling and anger over little things. I am wanting more every time I see one of your videos or just find some small snippet in the game. I do with they had ported the first one to PC just so I could play through it. Thank you again for doing what you do.
Thank you Byf. Thank you for remaining a level headed player and content creator who is striving to hold a community together. Listening to this brought down my angst over the content and brought my thoughts back to where it should be; Enjoying the universe that I love and want to be in. I'm almost crying. this is stupid. lol
I just want to let you know I like the way you approach things. Your demeanor and thought process is evident and your one of the few people I still look for towards thoughts and clarification on content. I was fully on board with the story element in this expansion. It was one of the few times I was genuinely interested in what was happening and wanting clarification as I was going along. It had a couple parts where sure I feel like it fell a little flat as they could of turned it up for a really quite cinematic and grand scale. But as far as a DLC 20$ expansion I really enjoyed it and the worlds I finally got to goto. Change in mission types are definitely needed as they found the orb at the end of D1 and now that is there go to mechanic.
Boss was super cool! Really great mission just kind of flat as I found there not to be much of a fight, but they took it in the right direction. Also love the forge quests as well heroic adventures done 2 of 3 and so far really difficult and really fun!
I agree with your points here Byf. I appreciate somebody else stating that they loved how beautiful this dlc was. I've heard quite a lot of negativity around this but its always refreshing to hear you say positive things about this beautiful game. You truly are a voice I and many others in the community respect and hearing your praise gives me hope.
I found it interesting on one of the adventure missions against the hive (in the new Dlc), the female ghost brings up Oryx towards the end of the mission, The conversation is about the throne world's, she cuts in saying ''oryx is dead though right?''. . .and there was no response 😞
Whenever it got the point in the campaign where you saw the golden age mercury the first thing I did was run over to a tree just to see what was over there. Whenever I got closer to what I wanted to see, I heard Osiris say "There are no more answers here" That kind of hit me hard. Made me realize he's right. Whenever I go off to wonder what is over there at that point it doesn't matter because it's all gone. There's nothing more to find because it's not even there anymore.
That scene was just... dumb... :p
My name is Byf Word!
I can't believe you're this much of a 'wow-factor drone', and making videos about your input. At least I know who's Destiny vids to avoid!
Hey, I loved that scene. I play a titan that punches stuff....That's pretty much how I do things :P
Diologe bungee come on please in next expansion. It could be a thing of just cutscenes and not during actual gameplay. Please even if it's yes and no s I'll be fine with it
Also Osiris and the exo stranger call ghost little light is there a connection. Ow and we officially have another name for a ghost besides ghost thank the traveler
I also got really excited and my hopes ran wild when Ikora said she'd go with us on the last mission, I though she would be fighting along side me shooting nova bombs and being all badass but then she pulled a Dinkle bot and literally just opened a door for us to go through
Ecliptic it’s Bungie what did you expect
My thoughts were, "Oh shit, you're gonna go with me? Ah hell yeah, you're just gonna open the door aren't you? Goddamn useless bitch."
And the bitch had the nerves to act like she did anything.
Exactly, I loved it when Zavala used his bubble because I thought bungie was going to do more things like this but nope it was just us always just us
Ooop.. never knew it happened once before lol 🙃 new light here btw
For this being about the most talked about and poiwerful and mysterious guardian, they kinda just skimmed on the story I feel.
Byf, the problem ain’t Destiny. It’s Bungie who can’t get a good grasp on what they wanna do with the game
JACorvin Can you blame them with this bipolar audience though?
BlackStarKamehama you can just do the adventure that goes into the past
Baked potato i have done the adventures multiole times and the same adventure could sent me to the past, future or present
Thats all down to the art team tho, they make this eyecandy stuff that is ment to distract. All prais to the art team
I would love to experience a stealth mission in the future. Silencer, assassination type mission. Destiny never really had that concept before. Would be a great risk imo
Battleman36 they kinda had one in taken king I believe (no killing, just sneaking)
The Earth they did, stealing the essence of Crota or whatever it was
Not assassination though
Their closest thing to that was the gorgons but no silent killing
Yea and the essence in ttk too
I don't think they could make it work solely due to the nature of the game.
The fact that you where able to create a dlc review after a day tells you all you need to know.
sci-fi Guy Truth.
Kimon Vanheffen story or not that fact that he was able to complete it in less than 2 hours is just sad
Disappointed how they treated Osiris in a DLC that's supposed to be about him.
Tyler Evan how was it disappointing? Without him you would not have defeated panoptes and he continues to help throughout the infinite forest...
J. Kol34 the lore.. everything.. it is just disappointing
J. Kol34 no, what helped me through the story was the quest markers pal.
Carlos how well thought out that comment was. Maybe don't go into something with unrealistic expectations. Nothing is ever what you expect it to be.
A bit but i think the time we had with him was great! :)
Does anyone else find the mercury’s past are REALLY REALLY beautiful and hope they use that pallet and feeling more? I mean it was such a fresh departure from the worlds were used to and felt fantastic. A+ to the art team that designed these areas.
What did you think about Osiris' last line about the "Little Light?"
Not sure how many people caught that, but it seems obvious Bungie put that in as an easter egg/ nod to our desire to know more about the exo stranger.
Exo stranger is a female tho
Right now it's most likely filled with new players only
Byf, can you please make a video about the whereabouts of Saint-14
Tomorrow. It's on its way. Don't you worry.
Yes! My favorite titan character.
RiP
He is dead.

I think it would have been a much better idea to use the Infinite Forest as something like the Prison of Elders
I love this review. Level headed and summed up my thoughts. A really encouraging direction for D2
Eververse loot pool is...infinite
"I wish I was like you, so easily amused" RIP Kurt Cobain, Nirvana.
I thought we could of had a vex raid, so much potential was there
as much as i would of loved a vex raid, i like that they are doing a raid lair
Its hard to make a raid and lets be real, Crota was fun but not long lasting. So they are choosing to go small for now and is a bit safer.
Of course i'd love a new vex raid but a new raid what, 3 months after release would of been poorly made if you ask me
Wish they had real new amor and more guns. But yeah.
ScarfaceGuru according to data mined audio files we will actually be fighting vex in the new raid lair
ScarfaceGuru true true, but when I saw the big vex guy for the first time I thought of kings fall
xX DankestMemestThe69th Xx the leviathan has been using mercury as energy sucking it up. It could have sucked vex up and the lair could still be vex themed? Or have they confirmed it to be something else?
Things I didn’t like:
The campaign needs to be longer than a couple of hours.
THEY DIDN'T TELL THE STORY OF SAINT 14! I'M MAD. THEY EVEN MENTIONED THE SIX IF THEM AS WELL....
An EliteSpartan Well in Saint 14's exotic ship it mentions he's dead, and in one mission, you can find a secret point in a wall where a body is floating, respectfully placed, most likely saint 14
Pretty sure that they're going to include his story in its own quest that will unlock later down the line. Patience... We'll see him soon.
An EliteSpartan we probably need to forge all weapons to unlock the quest line
Ishtar collective, as well as a clip in a trailer reveals Saint 14’s shotgun, which may be tied to the quest.
8 months later and that is literally what happened :)
I can stand in one spot, or hide on a high place and shoot monotonous swarms of enemies, there are no difficulty levels, and the raid was absolutely horrible.
jp 1377 FACTS
Just because you did not like it does not mean other people cant enjoy a game yes the story was a little underwhelming The senery was out of this world so to sum it up We dont all have to like the same thing
The one thing that bugged me was the contradiction in lines from Ikora.
Beginning of the DLC: "Osiris taught me what it was to be a Warlock."
Halfway through DLC: "Osiris didn't understand there was more to being a Warlock beyond being the smartest one in the room."
MAKE UP YOUR MIND
Jason Boyd i agree
Jason Boyd I'm pretty sure she was just tryna throw shade
Oh I know. It just irked me at the time lol.
He taught her...and clearly she moved on past him after he was disgraced.
How did Osiris NOT become the next speaker?
ZAN because they are too stupid to think of actual plotlines
Because he stayed in the infinite forest
Because literally everyone in The Last City hate him
Hes too busy exploring the infinite to worry about the singular.
Ryuko ΘώΘ 1) Everyone in the Tower basically despise him.
2)Osiris finds the position of The Speaker a dictatorship and does not approve of it.
Is it just me who thinks that the way Byf says "Greetings guardians" is really really satisfying?
Tyler Plays bungie needs to cast him...
Peter Schmidt byf for new ghost voice
Silas Sherman Byf for literally everything;
President, Prime Minister, God
Nah
Its funny how Destiny 1 & 2 and most of the expansions have the same sounding reviews, its always the talk of its potential potential potential. Three years is way to long to stand by a “potentially” great game. For those that stand by this game I envy your ability to continue on with this franchise.
Spoiler Alert
Panoptes had a dad
John3c lol
Go get his head guardian.....
no that's a gate lord go back
John3c Oh on lol
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Yessss I completed the story with my mate and said the same thing
I bought this dlc wanting to know who Osiris is. I finished the story still not knowing who he is. Am I missing something here ?
Ralph Ryder Yeah, destiny isn't a game where you play story missions and know everything. You'll find informations in nearly every activity, little things on planets and gear.
datboiwholived and the little things are too little count, this DLC either barely gives any info about Osiris or ruins his entire character
Past Mercury is so beautiful and peaceful looking. Why can't we have nice things?
Because bungie developed it.
I like a lot of the new weapons and exotics and the story, while short was super satisfying
Plus yea the final boss was easy like Ghaul, but was far more enjoyable
So yea, this feels like a good expansion or at least a bit better then i thought. Looking forward to the raid lair on friday
Great vid Byf! On a side note - I realized watching this video how awesome it is when you say "forking" :) Thank you accent for making that work sound so awesome!
Totally disappointed they completely ignored Saint-14s story as to where he is or what happened to him.
I think we might be getting his story in a quest, because there is that saint 14 shotgun that needs to be found
Eric Bracero idk if you'd want to know it not but at risk of spoilers they directly mention what's up with Saint-14 in the lore tab of one of the exotic ships.
You can see Saint-14s body on mercury when you're in the "dark future". So he definitely does in the future, but may still be alive now. He could still make an appearance at some point, or come across him if we go into the past again.
Ozilus I was gonna say that, Osiris wasn't even in his own expansion. Reminds me of Halo 5
future content story lines bra! Saint-14 and Bray will be then next arcs i bet
Really loved seeing all the different looks for the Vex, that was a neat touch. And as always, these videos are fantastic!
They did good with the past mercury even the pvp map is amazing work.
Deshawn williams past mercury completely blew me away
True but again do few new maps. D2 already has so few (and i might add pretty poorly made ones) it would have been nice to get more.
Your my go to destiny lore channel. Been following you since the beginning. Big fan of your work.
Theodus Owens it's like Sagira said, "no one can live up to Osiris' legend. Not even Osiris."
Make destiny like that, and then you'll become legend
as least we have to grind for the vex weapons *wink wink*
Byf as always excellent contact, terrific video and a wealth of information. Thank you from a Destiny fan and a person who felt very much the same way about the first time I saw the Mercury cut scene. I have never played a game which I have become so entangled with and it really is my hobby. Thank you for your excellent content as always. TheDX2
Was I the only one who had glitches throughout like things not loading, or check points that would take you the wrong way.
Colecanoe 122 same
In the first mission in infinite forest the gate didn't unlock until after some time or I finally ran through a checkpoint but I did a adventure and had to go to orbit bc the portal didn't open
Hey byf I thank you for all the lore videos you put out. I watch them with my dad and we discuss our thoughts on the subject matter aswell and it has helped us to get closer. Thank you
So nobody gonna mention how Osiris called his Ghost Little Light like the Exo stranger?!?!?!?
Senpai Stacks Sagira is a word that means "small" or "little" in Arabic.
chilosaurusrex word word but there still HAS to be some connection lmao I️m hard headed 😂
Senpai Stacks; someone has to not that the Stranger called our ghost that in D1, and she had to hear it from someone else... There's a link here! ;)
I hope Byf mentions is. It's something that needs some explaining for it has some interesting possibilities
#frickinbees
Thanks for showing me where the lore is, I was not paying attention as well as I thought, due partly to the lack of scanable objects in the campaign. Excellent vid, Cheers!
I think they messed up the IF so much and they could have made it open worldz
Matthew Grenier they should have.
Just wanna say as a fellow warlock I wanna say thanks for your videos. It is because of your lore vids that has revitalized my love for Destiny. Thanks and keep on keepin on byf
About osiris, maybe he is gonna get the eris morn treatment, in dark below she was pretty plain just like the story, yet the hive's whole story got expanded in ttk, like eris's. hopefully the vex will get a $40 expansion where everything gets everything get more development.
i hope your right man but this $20 expansion was at the least ok for what it is.
Xavier Johnson yeah i am enjoying it, the expansion is not really destiny 2's problem right now
Great vid byf. Keep it up buddy you’re one of the reasons why I even still play this game. Thank you.
the inilfinite forest was a waste of space... they could of easily put of hoard mode in it.
or maybe even a forge like mode, since it's a simulation engine we can build our own horde stages or advetures, or at the very least have areas we can explore in the past present and future towers of the forest
Peechos exactly
It could have been like diablos rifts
As a fellow lore master, I agree with you Byf. Thank you for taking the time to make this wonderful video.
Rubin McCack this is you fucking them off for no reason. Let byf do what he wants.
Rubin McCack aah yet another one who can't grasp the lore of destiny and how interesting this universe is.
datboiwholived I enjoy lore.
AMAZING BYF
This is how i thought about it. You are just WAY better at explaining it. thank you
the video about your thoughts on the DLC and its lore content is half as long as the DLC story itself... and twice as entertaining.
His video is half as long as the dlc campaign
Can we plz have segira instead of ghost
Mr Muffin was disappointed af when we got boring ghost back
SublimeSparo her voice actor actually has personality compared to ghost
Peace
Sorry byf , i think bascily took a shit on your front lawn . Destiny is mostly all your content and hated on it. I have deep respect for you . You were the one fricking blasted my mine about Destiny lore . But Destiny has gone down the crapper
If want add more to my comment list a griefence or complaint and want add to my paragraph. I credit u. But try to make fit in my paragraph
FelixLuna agreed
Majed Fazeli wow thanks sorry for grammer mistakes i furiously typed that and pretty tired haha
No Destiny 2 was a complete flop I am fucking piss that I wasted my money on this shit.
ErN3 MacB since when did this video become a hate comment section
The mercury public space is most defnitely a rejected combined arms map from Destiny1 , you have a middle region for B control point and 2 on either sides which mirror each other for A and C control points. Even the road tracks indicate that this map was built for sparrows to be used. What a waste of a game Destiny has become. LOL
Osiris's reflections explain how he was "in more than one place" at the Battle of Six Fronts and how he was in a constant radiance when he and eris talked to the Queen. Love how they planned that very early on.
I thought the infinite forest was awesome but then it became infinite boredom
3:30 I so hope one day we'll get an expansion that has vast open spaces like 'past Mercury'. Those fields looked absolutely amazing, the best looking and most immersive location in D2 by far. I just went around to explore the whole thing but there were barriers. The largest destination, EDZ, is pretty cool but it values gameplay first; meaning the location is unnaturally tightly packed. A more open air, immersive, Withcer 3 style location would be fantastic. Big open areas in between areas of interest, not mere tunnels like those on Nessus (however I like Nessus for what it is).
Why don’t we see ikora’s ghost in that cutscene or any other time
brasco18 she and the other vanguard have one in D1. I don't remember if we she anyone's ghost in D2
Good shit man. Appreciate you MyNameIsByf, man. Keeping it real and positive all at once. ✌🏼❤️
Saint 14 gear that’s all I care 4
he's dead
That's all I'm grinding for
mikkel eggert he’s not dead he’s dead in the bad future
Loving it, can t wait to comeback from work and play more. Awesome video!
It took about 20 mins of playing D2 to realise it was terrible.
datboiwholived You are a perfect example of exactly what he meant. Lol.
ascetic43 And you probably aren't able to read lol
datboiwholived Get groomed. Lol.
I think Bungie should seriously consider having you has a curator of the lore long-term. There's no way I could piece all of this together without your vids.
I wished they had done more with the lore, it does not seem they want to expand or use the current games lore to make better stories
this could of been ttk but with the vex if im reading your comment correctly then i agree.
Well... I had thought they could have had osiris come back to the tower and elected the leader by new monarchy because of the speakers loss.. And they could have still added in the story but it was just like ghual.. Bad guy v good guy. Your the only person who can do anything... And then egg head walks back into the vex time cenario machine... That's it..
Fantastic video Byf - thank you for all your insights throughout the years!
Pleaze did anyone notice that osriris called his ghost little light at the ending cutscene
Totally noticed that too
Same here very strange
TGArecher 720 me too. I think that he may have something to do with the Exo Stranger. Well, I know that he does. She's clearly talking to someone else in the cutscene where you meet her and who else do we know who patrols the vex timelines?
Miggy Miggy Productions what's so strange?
It's strange because we have only heard one other character refer to Ghosts as "Little Light," that being the Exo Stranger. References to the Exo Stranger tend to cause excitement, because she is one of the most mysterious and enigmatic characters in all of Destiny.
So if $20 dollars is to pay mostly for the endgame then why are the majority of the endgame rewards only available from the Eververse? That seems like an issue to me.
Did osiris send the exo stranger??? He refers to sagaria as little light????
Definitely not the best thing they’ve done. They even added things back from Destiny 1
I really enjoyed Curse of Osiris recently subscribed learnt a lot more about the lore thanks to your videos keep the amazing work Byf.
you use a lot of words to say absolutely nothing.
NITE: I know right😂😂
NITE stfu
dude sounds like when you try to use extra words to make your essay longer
Excellent byf as usual. Long time junky and understood the expansion as a whole. The one thing that escapes me is during the initial cut scene that red item targets Osiris and he throws his ghost out of harms way. What the hell was that? Keep up the great work and can’t wait for more from you.
I wonder.....is that the Traveler in the background on past mercury?
Holy crap that might be the traveler, just adds to the coolness of that scene.
Keep up the good work
M
sorry, this story is garbage. it makes little sense. its non sensical. It's called "curse of osiris." What curse? And Osiris is barely in this game. He's in like two cut scenes and then leaves. just bad. Their writers are horrible. Their art design is phenomenal.
Exactly what curse?
Enjoying the DLC! Good review Byf, I am glad to here some positivity! Now bring on the Raid Lair and more Lore from the Destiny Universe!
Terrible writing once again, D2 is going downhill and fast.
I HAD TO BUY IT FOR $50!!!!!!! 😡
BudVanDoodle Why didn't you just buy deluxe in July?
bigbigcheese2 Who the actual fuck still buys season passes in advance anymore? I didn't get this expansion, nor will I buy any more.
This DLC is a pretty thorough nail in the coffin. :P
70 if you live in new zealand
I'm sorry bro
BudVanDoodle omg I'm sorry
As usual. A great video on D Lore. Please keep it up.
I always enjoyed Destiny and Destiny 2. Your content is very much enjoyed by me, many thanks
This is the best video that you have ever made in my opinion.
Whenever it got the point in the campaign where you saw the golden age mercury the first thing I did was run over to a tree just to see what was over there. Whenever I got closer to what I wanted to see, I heard Osiris say "There are no more answers here"
That kind of hit me hard. Made me realize he's right. Whenever I go off to wonder what is over there at that point it doesn't matter because it's all gone. There's nothing more to find because it's not even there anymore.
Yet another solid video, Byf. Thank you for sharing your analysis and thoughts.
Good video, dude. This helped me appreciate the campaign more. I think as a lore nerd it felt like such a tease, but what was there was pretty solid.
