Good news is you'll never run out of content so long as you keep this car around. Shoot, it could have it's own channel
Maybe he should name it Christine? 😁
Bwahahahahaaa 😂😢😂😢😂😮😮😮😅😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣Troofs..
Dam that’s the sad truth 😅

the CL65 is committed to give LSC endless content and its my favorite car on the channel, Go CL65
I hope it never gets fixed! 😂
@tonistaru I hope it gets fixed and breaks again so we can have more content 😂
I need it to run for about 30 days lol
When something gets on your nerves you go ham with it 😂 takout the engine and reboot it and tune it to the ultimate max limits 👍😉
i hope its still here in 2054
Brooo, the problem is the gearbox! It is limiting the torque, that's from factory, because it doesn't hold as much torque!, hope you read this. Big fan here!
Why doesn’t anyone know this
722,6 is capable of running 1000lb.ft ....
yea the ecu is limiting torque, which is why the trq curve so flat and the boost doesnt fall off as much
Does it pull ignition timing?
Wouldn't the tuners see this like, immediately?
The reason why I and many others watch this channel more than samtrac or other automotive is because alex does things right and actually help people know what things are worth doing “While i am in there” rather than fixing the cheapest way possible.
Alex does it in the budget but also not risking having to do the same exact labor for other parts that are known to wear off and cause issues. In this channel you are entertained and learn alot while doing so.
I like that he shows when he makes a mistake like pinching that wire. He shows what it's really like to work on cars instead
@@beg5063 Yup, exactly! Showing the potential mistakes or hurdles along the way is also important to avoid them. He also provides tips to prevent issues in performing an install. IT IS JUST AN AMAZING CHANNEL!
“Spend more money or spend more time.. I like to spend both” 😭😭😭😂 Right in the feels
Spend more time on labor so you have more money to spend on tools and parts!
Thanks for touching back on unfinished projects and not just buying new cars every episode
HEAR HEAR …. Love seeing projects finished.
AutoAlex lol
i unsubbed to tavarish also
One day, many years from now:
“Hey dude, what’s with the old can of Mercedes Grease?”
“Oh that’s my grandfather, Alex.”
Me and a buddy swapped out the transmission in my 1986 Trans Am in my grandmother's driveway with the car up on ramps and jack stands. We also dropped the fuel tank of my friend's 1989 Formula Firebird in my mom's driveway in the rain so he could change the fuel pump. You don't NEED a lift to do anything on a car, just make sure you have your vocabulary of curse words warmed up and a cold 6-pack of beer nearby.
i dropped the transmission to replace the clutch in my mustang on the side of the street!!
We once had to work under a non-running pick-up which meant we were laying on ice with some snow. It was a bit harsh. We did get it running so that erases any pain.
Well we dropped a rear pumpkin out of a 78ish ford 4wd pickup in maybe early 90's because we spun a rear axle on the way to deer camp.
we finished the last 100 miles on front wheel drive afer dropping the rear shaft. We were 30 miles out in the woods when we performed the surgery!! :)
we cut logs for jack stands!!
I so wish you did 2 videos a week. Nobody does car repair like you do wish more you tubers watch your content. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks man!

Just started watching this video, a couple mins in. I like the serious Alex, sure the silly Alex is fun, but its good to see him with his game face on. The CL definitely can stir things up!
Alex,I have a 2006 Jaguar with the 6 speed ZF gearbox and I've removed it at the side of the road outside my house using car ramps and a motorcycle lift,I've saved a fortune doing my own servicing, love watching you work
70 year old ex aircraft engineer/ technician
Alex can I just say thank you for your perseverance. It's one of the main reasons I'm an avid follower of your channel. As a mechanic myself I know the feeling of chasing the unsolvable fault but I also know that feeling of victory when you finally fix it. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching from here in the U.K.
Would you leave this car on the South side of Chicago with the keys in it at this point?
No, but I might bling it up and sell it over there.
It would be too cruel of a punishment even for the most prolific of car thieves, where is your humanity?! 😂
No way, I love that car. There is reason why you do not see a lot of them on the road still. You are the right owner for that car.
Feel free to leave it in my garage in Tampa. 😂
I pass a BMW on my way to work that's sat in a parking lot in the middle of nowhere alone for 6 months. I joked that nobody was dumb enough to steal it
38 and an episode with Tim Allan would be incredible! He is one of the reasons I love cars. Watching home improvement as a kid was an inspiration for the work my grand father and I did on cars together when I was young.
The CL65 is the gift that just keeps on giving!!!! I always enjoy your videos and I usually learn something from them.
Little tip for you with the transmission cooler lines that leak on your head.. I always put a glove on all lines that are open. Be it brake lines, coolant pipes, oil pipes - just a glove with a zip tie. No mess, no drips on the head paint floor, so nice.
Doing the rear main costs so much in labor it’s almost always worth doing it yourself. I bought a set of quickjacks, a transmission jack and the part and still saved money over having a shop do it.
Did you sign the flexplate 😂

Alex have you checked crankcase pressure. Possible that excessive crankcase pressure is causing your issues and also blowing out the rear main seal. I’m not sure how the CL PCV system works but maybe something to look into.
For 48 years I never had a Lift.....I am a DIY'er and work on friends cars....3 years ago I bought 3.....I will never not have a lift if only for doing oil changes on my personal cars....100% worth the $2000 I spent on each of them!!
love the content!!!
May I ask what brand and model lift you are using. $2k seems totally reasonable. My sons and I were just talking about a lift the other day. Thanks in advance.

WOW! Your CL65 is broken? That's unheard of! Said no one EVER! LOL! 😂
It's just a car, but it's honestly the most sorted it's been as it's not always going into limp mode - so very much good progress!!! 👍👍
I can't believe it was 3 years ago when you dropped the motor. It is fun to watch the CL65 videos cause we get to see you troubleshoot. It's not just amateur mechanics like me that get frustrated with cars.
Alex, I love your attitude -“it just another broken car”. I have used your wisdom many times over the last 5 years as a I have thrashed away on my 1970 Boss 302 with problem after problem. Your wisdom has been a sanity saver
I just hate it when the video ends with “down Alex”. Love the upbeat excited Alex, but that’s life. Great video!!!
Yes that's happened a lot lately especially with the cobra
Did you know that excessive back pressure causes valve float and reflects as a misfire? You may have maxed out the valve springs due to a restriction on the exhaust manifolds not the Catalytic Converters measure back pressure before the turbos.
For some weird reason I love installing helicoils, not needing them, that sucks, but the ability to rescue an otherwise unusable part, and the actual process of doing it is fun. I used to be a QC inspector on some governent projects so I did incoming inspection on parts and also in process inspection, we had a lot of parts that had damaged threads and I checked the specs on the damaged parts and determined helicoil repairs would be acceptable, so I ordered the needed inserts, taps, drills and loctite and set up a workstation and rescued THOUSANDS of dollars of parts for only a few hundred dollars. I thoroughly enjoyed the process.
Thanks! You start my Saturday mornings off! My only Dad time to watch TH-cam. Hello from northern suburbs Chicago.
I live vicariously through Alex where I want to own one but never will now.
Not sure anyone have the time or finances to own one of these!

Even Alex is starting to lose that lovin’ feeling now, and the guy is fearless! A mere mortal like you doesn’t stand a chance going up against such Big Evil!
30:49 Don't draw this in with an impact... Cuts to a scene where he draws it in with an impact! Classic mechanic. Do as I say, not as I do! LOL I love it!
Was probably already started. And he can see if it goes in correctly or not. Also not really an issue to make new threads there
It's dont start with an impact always start by hand
@@MatthewBekkerboth are true.
The saying "do as I say...... " Does hold true. When someone doesn't know what they are doing fully then the chances of messing something up is drastically increased if you bring power tools into the mix.
Great attitude to have, it's just a car and your health is so much more important and I'm here to tell ya from experience...I have a spinal cord injury at T10 vertebrae in my back that paralyzed me this past October. I still love watching these videos even tho I'll prob never be able to work on cars again. I used to love working on cars as a hobby and Alex really reminds me of better days, and even when things dont go your way you can still have a good time.
Alex, the amount of patience you have is remarkable! And your positive outlook on all your projects is outstanding and your added comedy just adds to the positivity.
The rear main seal is a bit ominous. I wonder if significant amounts of boost are working their way into the crankcase....
Yes definitely worth checking the PCV!!
Rear main seal replacement at Mercedes of South Orlando for an SL55 was quoted at $4800.
At this price, one could buy a whole car lift and all the tools brand new to do it! 😮
People crying about how expensive is to fix an expensive car is so lame ... ... Don't get the car if you can't aford it.
@@JP-xd6fm You seem like the type of guy that overpays a dealership to change their oil and you feel good about it
@@theentrepreneur7777 Not really, I just don't have the space and tools to do it myself, plus, it's better handle that to professionals imo.
I feel your pain Alex. Your perseverance is admirable and inspiring to many of us. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
I am so invested in this project and have been since day 1.. really hope you manage to get to the bottom of the problem Alex!
I enjoy these challenges more than bolt on fix and replace. You give me so many great ideas and potential solutions. Keep up the great work Alex.
This car is perfect for your channel. We've been learning so much about these cars by the time your completely done with it you and your viewers could be amg techs 😂
Great videos because you are one of the few to be able to handle a problem car like this. Its really good content Alex. Your channel is my favorite for these problem-solving reasons. Keep up the great work.
Alex thank you so much for this Video … I can feel your frustration and admire your determination with the CL65, but you are going far beyond maintenance into power development on a V12 - “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. I am 100% certain that you are going to get there and it’s great viewing watching you analyse the various issue and fix problems. From a viewer prospective another GREAT video.
Superb
Wow, $400 on spark plugs?🤦♂️
Yeah they are expensive plugs and there are 24 of them. They are about $25 each from a dealership.
@@andrewweltlich9065 And they are wrong for his setup, he needs to run colder plugs with different gap after upgrading turbo chargers.
Fluid motor union intake.. hopefully you'll get this sorted
The CL65 series is super inspirational, seeing Alex continue with the project even after being burned every episode is really motivating for my own project(1989 Ford Probe LX)
My favorite series. I have a 2013 S65 AMG with 40k miles so I love seeing these vids.
Alex I think you're beyond cool, because you don't give up! One of the best traits you can show this generation is keep going for your goals and don't give up!! Excellent bro!!
So happy for more V12 content!!! ❤
I can't explain why watching your videos is so satisfying. Like many of your subscribers, I so look forward to your new content every Saturday morning.
Mercedes V12s are amazing, with that being said, I love the chaos this car gives him. Endless entertainment
The more I see those baking tins, the more it's making me wanna try it in my shop! I've got so many magnetic trays, but the separation the tins offer is pretty enticing.

I'm going to say your a bit older then me I'm 32 so I'll say 35 but you look fairly young. If you are older then my thought keep up what your doing to stay so young looking.
Also want to thank you for the content you create. I'm currently struggling with mental health. AMG CL 65 Mercedes 1000hp+ is in progress in Poland.
not a chance because of the turbos (coobcio partacz)
@@VeltyGamesIn Poland everything is possible
@@BMW.535d Sounds great but as a Polish myself i know that is a lie.
@@VeltyGamesGive it a single turbo from a heavy equitment machine and it will make Earth spin faster around😄 Im Danish but my mechanic is Polish 😊👍🏼
@@BMW.535d I know that, but the person responsible for upgrading turbos is a clown. The owner of CL65 knows many better people for that job but for some reason he chose him.
It’s a wonderful car and I know you’ll get it dialed in, thank you so much for the video and not given up on the CL 65 ///AMG, YOU’RE THE BEST ALEX KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Hey Alex I might have a solution for the limp mode. I have a 2002 CLK430 and 2006 CL55 AMG. Both of them had a problem going into limp mode after going full throttle and turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor. I had to pull over, park it, turn it off and on to reset it. It doesn’t solve the Horsepower loss but hopefully it fixes the Limp mode problem.
I would definitely upgrade the PCV system on that engine. I just hurt my N/A, 7.0 V8 because i used a PCV system from a 5.0 engine. It just couldn't flow like it needed to. Man what a bummer when a car doesn't want to play nice. 😐
“you can either spend more money or spend more time. i like to spend both” amen brother lol
I love these hard to figure out issues! I'm confident you'll figure it out
You’ll get it. I am very curious on the back pressure issue. This never entered my mind when I was modding my S65 with aftermarket turbos.
This is my favorite car, you have to fix it mate, keep them content coming
This is a great video. Its the real world of car tuning...one step forward one step back.
I've been a fan since the CL65 hydraulic problems, excelent content 👍
Is this the car you bought from Hoovie a couple winters ago?? I was so gonna get an E55 until I saw you work on the suspension. Did you ever get it working 100%? Yes
e55 has airmatic air suspension, not abc hydraulic suspension which the cl has
@@viper4545 true. What I meant was the nature of the beast of working on an AMG with problems. Anyway. I would delete the air suspension for a Strutmasters or Arnott kit, but Alex goes full master tech on it from diagnosis to the highest level of the tricks of the trade. Not terribly DIY friendly. I might be able to keep one running though. Barely though…
Air suspension is really easy to replace.
Let's play, what do you think is wrong with this car? Again.
I think it’s some stupid ground that is a factory defect.
bad wire or missed connection 😂😂 just starting now
It's broken 😂
You're the MB engineer, what IS wrong with it????? 😆
When are you going to replace the cats?
This car is a gift and a curse I tried buying it from hoovie but you got to it first thank Jesus. Ive been watching you work on it every since and you are a beast at what you do.
For the oil problem in the cables (which often happens with Mercedes) there are so-called cable oil stop adapters. We even use this in Germany to solve this problem.
Wild how many problems this CL causes you, hope it soon will stop bully you. Imagine if a person that is not a Mercedes mechanic veteran have bought this one, he would have gone bankrupt.
Really nice car tho and I have seen all episodes with it and look forward to see you ripping it around without issues ✊🏼
Right before you said that bit about the coil not creating enough power for the back pressure issue, I was thinking the same thing! Sometimes there are under-lying issues that won't be noticeable until the NOTICEABLE issues are fixed and the car is running "properly?!" Lol...therefore revealing the UNDERLYING issues. So don't feel defeated, everything is progress towards a better running vehicle. Love the videos! 👍
You're making steady progress on the CL65, it is a badass car, just work through it and it will be a beast when you are done. You got this, Alex!
Jebus Alex, look at those guns! Looks like you have been making big gains! Way to go! Inspiring for me as when I was your age I was in decent shape, now I'm a flabby old man but trying to get back in shape again. Always find these CL65 AMG videos fascinating too - it's one of those cars that is clearly really well engineered, but so damn complex that it's still a nightmare to work on.
Dang no man I'd never leave a car anywhere with keys in it Alex!. ✨🎭✨🎭✨👍👍👍👍✨
Owning a used Mercedes sounds awesome. I'm going to get 3.
Yes they are great cars.
I still remember the day I met you and your son for the first time. I helped you find parts to complete your lawnmower tuneup project. The thing that impressed me the most, how genuine your attitude was with me, and how awesome you and your “buddy”/son interacted with each other. So, in my opinion, don’t judge a person by their posted content on TH-cam. You might one day meet that person, and be surprised how human they really are in person.
I will say one side benefit from this car besides the exceptional content Alex and his team provides: I was driving from Durango, Colorado to Vegas last month and my new Jeep Grand Cherokee started running horrible. I had filled up the night before at what I thought was a popular gas station. The Jeep dealers weren't helpful saying I could "possibly" get in that afternoon so I should just get a hotel room. Code reader showed pending misfire codes and it was then I remembered Alex limping the S65 home from Kansas and the bad gas issue. I dumped a bottle of HEET and a can of Seafoam in the tank and there were no problems after that! Ran the tank all the way to St. George, UT with no hiccups. LSC to the rescue 3 years later!
Man I'm glad something good came of all that for you.
One thing this channel has taught me is that I will NEVER buy a used Mercedes. Another thing I've learned from is Alex's methodical troubleshooting skills. Very good indeed!
is that tavarish's P1 Engine?😂
I absolutely love your resilience with this car!
Love your videos. Why didn’t you change to front seal on the transmission?
You said it... You will never trust that car again. Fix it and sell it... The relationship is irretrievably broken. 😊

Great content as always Alex. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Really enjoyed the video! Hopefully we can see a continued push until its sorted. It's such an awesome beast.
boosted cars love small gaps, an ignition box helps, But even with one, my 92 talon loves 15-18 thou on gap. Anything more than 18 it breaks up. Running like 30psi on a china 76mm billitt turbo now. On the other hand, my Fox mustang, I run cheap autolites out of the box making the same power, but with less boost and its fine. both cars are about 7-800hp setting
I love the lawn, that is why I subbed, looking for more lawn content.
I know some mercs have issue with coil grounds, might be worth making up some grounding wires decently thick and having then wired to the bolt hole on the coil and wiring it to the block.
