I've been looking into getting into OPR, b/c I am not paying GW mini prices I can't afford that. So these comparison and ranking vids are helpful to consider for the non-aesthetic part of army choice. Also hopefully as editions go onwards the armies will pulled a little closer together on balance, but I understand that it's going to be hard to balance a system with so many different factions and units all mixed about.
I'm glad to help you in your OPR journey! OPR has a solid foundation in that it uses the same point system across all armies, it's really about tweaking units and armies to bring them in line. It's what I love about the system so much!

In this video you are looking at a former version of the game so you might see them differently now.
I can say that I play Custodes for 2 years in a rather competitive context with a several experienced players. I had some tournaments and played really many games. And I think I am rather succesfull with the Custodes.
I think maybe you have to build different lists, embrace another playstyle. Mobility and Melee. I always have three Custodians with Regeneration and Spears. They are accompanied by a Great Sister giving them Fast and Holy Shield. In a 2000 point game I have three of these I then add three Destroyers with Spears. That used to be 2K, but its cheaper now.
With this you hit every enemy unit in the second turn. Usually I claim 2 Markers in the first turn and am starting to get the others from then on. Very few units are able to withstand the onslaught. And then there is the double Regeneration. Its a brutal combo

I usually just build my armies by what I think are 'cool', never really worried about game balance for myself. (Again, just for myself, I do know that balance and competition are important to others!)
The reason I like the Custodians is simply for the power fantasy. I like going into Firefight with only 3 models of super strong peeps. Of course I usually lose because I can't really control the board. :D
Well Custodian Brothers are a super good army now. So your cool army can do some work! 🙂
If you were to add allies, which would be the best options? I've been thinking about adding sisters to add chaff and spellcasting to my custodian army
Sisters would fit thematically, especially the OPR models. I'm working on some Blessed Sisters myself. HDF is also great; good chaff and a good level one spell!
When you say "when the Custodians have no way to deal with those spells, that's a rough deal", so you mean they can't spend tokens to interfere with enemy spells? Would it help if the Sisters had an active way to deal with enemy casters, instead of just passively though Holy Shield?
Something like "pick an enemy model with Caster, it loses X spell tokens" sort of thing.
My custom army just gives them spells that I call abilities. I think we can extrapolate spells to mean any sort of ability.
@@NexusWargaming Right, I'm trying to understand what you meant though, since I rarely use the option to interfere with enemy casting, so I don't really think of my casters to be a counter to strong enemy casters.
It depends. Some of the really powerful spells are close range and does open up opportunities to counter.
It keeps the opponent honest. I do think that the buff spells should have their range decreased.
