  • I'll demonstrate how to connect, set up, and operate the IC-705 QRP Transceiver with the XPA125B Amplifier / Tuner, using a NON-RESONANT ANTENNA with the INTERANL TUNER of the XPA125B. Get 100 watts from your ICOM IC-705.
    If you watched "Pair the ICOM IC-705 Transceiver with the XPA125B Amplifier to get 100 watts from your QRP Rig", you can quickly bypass the "Connections" section from 2:00 - 4:46 and the "Screen Feedback" section from 7:33 - 8:23.

    Great video! I wish you had a video on how to get the RS-BA1 remote control and Icom remote utility to work with the Icom 705. I love the amount of details that you put into your videos and how you lay things out step by step. This video helped me to order the XPA 125A. Thank you!

    This video as well as part 1 are TOP NOTCH! The structure and content were just the perfect amount! I've been looking at buying the XPA125A amplifier to go with my 705 but had too many questions I couldn't find answers to. You answered all of them and then some! Thank you!

    I bought this relay buffer on eBay and it works like a champ and addresses the issue that ICOM discusses in their manual. ICOM IC-705 to Xiegu XPA125B amplifier keying cable w/ RBI-1 . I love this amplifier and it works excellent with the 705.

    I had been looking at this amp for my 705. Your video just helped me decide to go ahead and buy one. Thank you for the Buffer info I will use one of those. I am happy to spend a little more to protect my 705. Thanks again for the wonderful video!

      Glad it helped Barn Dweller; this is a great pairing the the IC-705. Some have said the buffer isn't necessary; but I can't bring myself to taking that chance. This came about as I was trying to solve the amp problem myself and thought I would share it with others.

    You got me thinking about the ARB and I think I will buy one. Like you said the IC-705, which is what I have is very expensive. I would use an ARB with an AMP to save or hopefully protect my radio so why not do the same with a QRP Rig. HOA Ham Guy thanks for your help as I only recently received my IC-705 and Xiegu XPA 125B. I've seen that issue with getting the tuner to cycle. The amp needs enough RF energy to get a reflection back to measure.

    The XPA125B manual says to tune for low SWR in CW mode, but doesn't give specific instructions for tuning the G90/XPA125B combination. Radiooddity emailed me to set the XPA125B PA off, key the G90 mic with16 watts AM (carrier only no modulation) then initiate XPA125B tune. After XPA125B tuning cycle completes, reduce G90 power to 5 watts or less, turn XPA125B PA on. Following these instructions I get an SWR of 1.7 or less and good SSB signal reports on all bands, 160 - 10 using my 71' end-fed non-resonant antenna.

    • @HOAHamRadio
      @HOAHamRadio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that feedback Jon. That's interesting they strayed that far from the manual in using the Amp / Tuner with the G90. To get the Tuner to work with the IC-705 I had to push it with RTTY. I sure with they would update and expand that instruction "Manual".

    What is the power required by the amp, during transmit and on receive/bypass? Wondering about battery and solar requirements for portable use.

    • @HOAHamRadio
      @HOAHamRadio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan, you are asking really great questions, and now I'm wishing my memory was better. The video series I did on the XPA125B is now several months old and I'm drawing a blank. As far as portable use, I ran the IC-705 with the XPA125B remote with a 30Ah Bioenno and a solar panel for ~6 hours and barely dented the battery. Bioenno told me I could use the 20Ah and I would be fine; I went with the 30 since I knew I'd be at it for hours. I rand the X5105, then G90, then IC-705 and for most of that time was powering a laptop through an inverter and charging cameras, all from the same 30Ah power source. I only show the tail end of the event using the IC-705 but I do talk through the entire event of running the X5105, G90, then IC-705; here is the vid th-cam.com/video/7pclNsBmupk/w-d-xo.html

    Bob I have my G90 and XPA125B hooked up through a CE-19 and have questions. I think antenna tuning is working but I have yet to see anything out of the amp. No power shown going in and nothing indicated on the output. Also the band will change on the amp when the G90 is keyed. For example on G90 the band set on 20 the amp will switch to 17 and on 40 the amp goes to 30. power on the G90 is set at 5W. I am transmitting into a dummy load. Any ideas? I agree, the manual is as poor as they come.

    • @HOAHamRadio
      @HOAHamRadio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ralph, if everything is set up correctly, PA on, ATU on, Band select in Auto, with correct cabling between radio, amp, CE-19, everything should work. Has this ever worked for you, or is it new out of the box? If new, perhaps its defective?? Here is my video specifically with the G90 paired with the XPA125B

    • @ralphday7573
      @ralphday7573 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HOAHamRadio The amp is new. I have had the G90 working correctly on FT8 using the CE-19 but switched to the digirig mobile to get rid of the wiring clutter. Wishing I could figure out a way to continue using it with the amp I reluctantly went back to the CE-19. I’ll double check the cabling but right now the G19 is working contentedly with the digirig and contact Radioddity about returning. Thanks.
