What can I say, so great. big Bob Mould fan to start with. Then, my wife's name is Cinnamon, and we lived many years in Indonesia and the Philippines. "Surrender" -- a killer song on all counts -- is the only rock song to feature both countries! Woohoo.
I've seen Grohl with Mould, Mould with Peter Buck playing Cinnamon Girl and Neil Young with Pearl Jam. That's some form of six degrees, all the inspired playing with the inspired.
Can't believe I just discovered this video.I know there is a bootleg of HD (without Buck) doing both these songs. Love seeing Bob do Neil Young's genius single note lead.
@@patricktracey3916 Buck out of his depth many times in his career with others on stage, but he was a perfect guitarist for REM, especially the early years. Even Peter knows he is an average musician in comparison to most of the greats of his era. He had something special with Stipe, Millsey and Berry and a superb sense of FEEL for his instrument and the songs. No Peter Buck, no REM.
@@Arturo-sm1tb He did a gig with Robert Fripp for fucks sake, even fretwankers like Satriani say they are out of their depth with him. Buck's got guts!
Saw them on this tour, backup for The Pixies at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC. Loved Husker Du, adored Bob Mould, covered Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young. Was amazing. Amazing. Standing on the edge of the Hoover Dam!
Classic Bob. I remember him doing Cinnamon Girl when I saw him in Columbus in Fall 89 for workbook tour. Then, I think he did Surrender when I saw in fall 90 in Cincinnati for BSOR
Man, I wish I'd been there. I'd seen REM in Dublin the previous year, the concert that U2 came to, when REM were touring Green and came to Dublin and showed U2 how to be the best band in the world. Apart from the performances, the really moving thing for me in this is the onstage electric fan. Athens GA in July must have been sweltering onstage.
record store here in town tried to hide husker du cds on me,b/c those were the only cds i was buying. after awhile i was known by one of the clerks as the'' husker du guy''
@KikoSavesTheDay He played a Les Paul on the Monster tour and sessions, played a Jag Stang in the "What's the frequency" video a stratocaster here, a Telecaster on an Old Grey Whistle Session playing "Pretty Persuasion", and I think that's all I've seen him play
My Live at Budokan cassette has long ago bit the big one though this isn't a bad version of Surrender either. Got Cheap Tricks greatest on CD but it isn't the same...too tame. Always liked Young's Cinnamon Girl and have that album it's on too; sound of the Guitar better there as the Guitar here is too muffled but that might be the recording equipment..
I thought Anton and Tony created a lot of space for Bob's guitar work. Think Bob's guitar work is quite sloppy these days. Back then, he was an absolute animal on the guitar.

Shit Bob owns every stage, always.
Brutally beautiful….no one encapsulates the Rock n Roll spirit more than Bob. God bless ‘I’m!
Wow!!! This is friggin' awesome...I love both of these songs. Surrender is one of the best rock songs of all time IMO.
Wow... my head exploded due to the awesomeness.
Bob Mould truly rocks!
I've seen Grohl with Mould, Mould with Peter Buck playing Cinnamon Girl and Neil Young with Pearl Jam. That's some form of six degrees, all the inspired playing with the inspired.
Bob Mould & Peter Buck?! Sweet vid!
Brilliant.
Can't believe I just discovered this video.I know there is a bootleg of HD (without Buck) doing both these songs. Love seeing Bob do Neil Young's genius single note lead.
amazing damn concert and one helluva finale with cinnamon girl and the Classic Cheap trick Surrender, an all time classic!
two legends, two great songs
I love everything about this.
I live 30 minutes from Athens but, 20 years from that. What a damn shame......
Music is a universal language. I wish i spoke it. Bob is a master.
I just finished Bob Mould's autobiography. He talks about this show. Wow! Thank you for posting!
LOve Mould but book was bad
@@davidguyett32 How so?
That's the second time ever I have seen Peter Buck play something other than a rickenbacker
I love you Peter... but Bob G is the goddamned king
Amen. As I watched this video, I kept thinking that Peter Buck was out of his depth on stage with Bob Mould.

Bob make everything ok!
Beautiful comment
classic -- what a treat.
Shit Bob owned that stage.... as always.

still remember the night here in milwaukee when the pixies and green day were playing across the street from one another, speaking of the pixies
didnt go to either show
@@stevemandl5140 :( Was hoping The Pixies.
@@stevemandl5140 Sounds post Kim...
this is so damn great.....legends.....playing legendary music.....
Neil to Cheap Trick...sums up the incredible awesomeness of rock and roll!!!
God, what a performance.
bob mould (hüsker dü) with peter buck (r.e.m.) performing neill young's innamon girl - sweet!
This is the only video I've been able to find of the original Bob Mould band with Tony and Anton. Cool.
BOB and NEAL quite possibly the two most underrated Guitarist ever , and musical geniuses followed by TODD !!!!!!!
Dan Tennant I gotta agree with you on that one,Dan!
Why is he so good at doing covers?!
Classic Bob. I remember him doing Cinnamon Girl when I saw him in Columbus in Fall 89 for workbook tour. Then, I think he did Surrender when I saw in fall 90 in Cincinnati for BSOR
Bob Mould and Mike Mills need to make an album together.
Imagine the harmonies
HOLY SHIT! I was there and it was my birthday to boot! great show!
Many thanks for this. Just discovered it!
wow! thanks for the upload -- talk about priceless. Fork yeah!
OHHH HELL YEA!
Pretty great!

Why the hell would they hide them?
if you "don't really like" Cinnamon Girl, then I'm sorry--YOU HAVE FAILED AT ROCK & ROLL....
cdroid the chord progression is brilliant. Sludgy and heavy but upbeat at the same time.
i actally have the cd cinnamon girl is on from neil young
Great. Keep 'em coming!
Wow, indeed...
this is great!!!
This is awesome. I always though Bob Mould and Michael Stipe's voice sounded similar. So this is basically half of R.E.M.
They sound nothing like each other.
that was pretty cool
I sort of remeber 1990. College student just like most of us. A very good version - and I think I had Bob's haircut back then :)
Omg check out the fan
Bob Mould playing Neil Young doesn't get much better plus Cheap Trick as a bonus😃
throw in a touch of REM Mam and you are correct! Happy 2020 Laura!
peter buck looks so over matched and he is happy about it. .
BOY HOWDY!!!!!!!
@KikoSavesTheDay
He played a Les Paul on the Monster tour and sessions, played a Jag Stang in the "What's the frequency" video a stratocaster here, a Telecaster on an Old Grey Whistle Session playing "Pretty Persuasion", and I think that's all I've seen him play
A Gretsch in So Central Rain video, but ironically played a Fender Xll on the recording.
He got a Les Paul about 1987 and played it extensively on Green World tour etc.
I know he's healthier now and bless him for that but I miss the chubby Bob Mould.
Outside of certain songs(mostly from Monster) it is weird to see Peter playing a guitar other than his Rickenbacker.
@remtrader106 He owns that black strat. I have at least two or three photos of him with it.
@BORNTORUNANDALIVEMAN
Was he playing a Les Paul the other time? He made a big deal about playing one on R.E.M.'s Monster album.
The reincarnation of Crazy Horse!
Iconic performance. Does anyone know if this was a one time event or did they pair up on a regular basis on th9s tour?
Was one time thing - Buck still lived in Athens at the time
wanna be pb in my next life...coolest person ever!
Interesting Thought, Maybe I'll get to work on this and share it on Zomb or something
R.E.M. !!!!!!!!!!!!
Neil Young songs are so much better when literally anyone else is singing them, and who doesn't love “Surrender?”
Where was Professor B? I get that this preceeded Sugar, but not by much...
He also played Kurt Cobain's guitar on "Let Me In"
I heard that Mike Mills (REM's bass player) played on that track?
My Live at Budokan cassette has long ago bit the big one though this isn't a bad version of Surrender either. Got Cheap Tricks greatest on CD but it isn't the same...too tame. I know very good
Love all versions of this song from Neil Young to Killdozer, but after all this time one question still hangs in the air...what is a cinnamon girl?
roxysholiday a groupie
What does he say about it?
Soulfly
7 people don't have a Cinnamon girl.
Peter who?
great to see them together but the videotaping sucks on this.
You’re lucky to have seen this.
The same is true if you don't like Cheap Trick...
I copied my guitar moves from both of these guys! hahaha
wtf mould playing with rem
I never liked Anton Fiers drumming on Bob Mould. Way too sloppy.
I thought Anton and Tony created a lot of space for Bob's guitar work. Think Bob's guitar work is quite sloppy these days. Back then, he was an absolute animal on the guitar.
Kollo Supias I disagree
Uh no...
Anton was tight as hell...check out Stand Guard, sloppy, I think not.
Who the fuck is Peter Buck?
2 people have no appreciation for music whatsoever...
I don't really like the song. But...Peter Buck...
The same is true if you don't like Cheap Trick...
