Thanks Jeff, this is by far my longest video. I was hoping that it was not to long for viewers
The 4449 is a beautiful engine and I’ve seen it myself in Naperville back in 2009
This engine is truly the most beautiful locomotive in running condition today. I just love it.
Just look at that sweet baby ! Her voice is pure music.
Yes it is great to see live
Beautifully Restored steam loco and I like the human like eyeball movement of the fog light, the California
zephyr coaches looks awesome!!
There is just something magical about them. I get so excited, just like a little kid! Yup, I'm a train chaser for a good pic when I cross paths with one.
Brings back good old memories they very beautiful to travel on the sound of the wheels on rail splice would put you to sleep in berth they fantastic that is a very good video . thank you.
Here in the east, the Norfolk & Western 611, the "J" is being restored as part of Norfolk Southern's 21st century steam program, when she's back up and running she'll be the best looking locomotive in the east!
Yes, they are rebuilding some of the steam tubes. Nothing to do with scraping SP4449
In some ways I find the collection of carriages even more interesting that 4449. Great video and alot of railroad history on that train.
One key figure to this locomotives restoration was Ross Rowland, He's a famous steam entrepreneur perhaps known for bicentennial freedom exhibit and steam trips.
The silver lariat(3:04) was once chartered on my town's Shortline for a fundraiser(Long story). That railroad is known as Santa Maria Valley Railroad.
SP 4449 is my favorite steam locomotive.
sp 4449 is my favorite train
great video of this excursion
Locomotive actually
What an amazing collection of coaches :)
I was looking at that Loco today and was astonished that it has an Auxilary helper engine under the rear of the Loco. The engineer that used to drive it said that he only used it once in Chicago
There is a Portland, NY a couple miles from me where I film trains sometimes. Got a triple meet there a few months ago.
Just listen to that stack talk! Now this is what I call you call a steam locomotive!
Farewell, 4449! Hope you have a great trip to the festival!
4449 SP MÉXICO 🇲🇽
The longer the video the better for me.
Very nice video with the SP 4449 Daylight.
The Daylight is a fantastic steam locomotive.
Thank You.
Southern Pacific Daylight 4449 travels from Portland, Oregon to Owosso, Michigan for the Train Festival 2009 and return.
Thanks
No, it is at Oregon Rail Heritage Center 2250 SE Water Avenue
Portland, Oregon 97214
O
I'll
Loved the video buddy.....really enjoyed! I guess the Amtrak diesel was used as a 'helper' maybe because of the length of the whole train & (or) possible gradients on the route?
I love the way you guys on the other side of the pond 'mix 'n' match' coaches....this has to be the most different coaches on 1 train I've ever seen!
I have the model of Daylight...lovely loco & will be featuring her in a video very soon now.
Best regards, John.
We love you 4449!
Hey very nice video + 4449 looks very great
what a beautiful train
Thanks my friend
Probably some of the best shaky footage I've ever seen
this was on my You Tube and I love the train videos.
I like the train video ---- Mason West
Thank you
Diesels are there on any Steam run to provide a back up power source and dynamic braking. And when no power car is available for Head End Power for the cars.
Me again Bud. I like the extra water tender (I have an extra one for my J Class 611) but not for Daylight. Do you know of anyone making that in HO please. It would be quite hard to find here in the UK! Big thanks, cheers, John.
Muito bom !! from Brazil ,Great Job !
OK buddy thanks for that.....we'll have to wait & see what happens? Cheers, John.
No worries on that one....I'll let you know when I upload the vid? All the best, John.
Very cool video!
Great Video!
great steam locomotive
Thumbs up!
Great video
excellent production my friend
Nice work, ervans.
lovely shot and im loven it
The longer the better!!
I'm hoping that she gets the whistle she had when she was fresh from the works. I think they should put an F40 instead of a P42
Instead of an F40 there should be a F unit in daylight colors!
They could actually use SP EMD E9A # 6051!
Wait the 4449 is being scrapped!!!! My great grand pa drove tht train!!!!!!!!! O_O and an awesome job Erevan
Where did you read that?
That GS-4 doesn't need the Amtrak diesel for a backup, and it messes up the image!
+STARAXE1A random painted passenger cars too it makes me want to vomit
like how hard is it to get the matching passenger cars?
i know its hard but still
+Spencer VanOchten Well if you're willing to purchase the cars, refurbish them to Amtrak standard, and have them all painted in SP colours, I'm sure Doyle and Co would be more than happy to rent them from you at excursion time. I hope you have a couple million sitting in your bank account.
Ted Harrison dude im 12
+Spencer VanOchten The comment was directed a little more broadly at all the railfans outraged at things like mixed consists. Would it look better without a diesel (or at least a diesel camouflaged) and a complete matching train? Absolutely! It just isn't realistic for most operations though. With the 261 group being the notable exception, no mainline steam program that I am aware of that isn't funded by a class 1 railroad pulls a matching set of cars. If you're operating a mainline steam locomotive, you rent and borrow the cars from wherever you can get them.
+STARAXE1A
Perhaps it is there for HEP for the passenger cars.
Thanks, I would like to see the video
Thanks!
I don't know of any. Someone else might see this and answer
Nice catches
How did you find out the locomotives names, because I haven't been able to find them
This is amazing, ah I luve it!
Best Regards! :)
I know it is quite randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Paul Yousef flixportal :D
@Kash Jaxon Thanks, I signed up and it seems to work :D Appreciate it !!
@Paul Yousef Glad I could help :D
Well, not necessarily for MORE POWER. More like an insurance policy: if the 4449 runs into problems, the diesel can get everybody where they're supposed to go.
Hey!? What are the 261's cars doing that far out west?
ExcessMean the friends of 4449, i think, are trying to keep as much realism as possible
I wonder how long it took them to realize the top headlight is out :P
***** I thought of that, but why would they keep it moving still lol?
***** Ahh I see. Didn't know they're was two separate switches for that. Thank you man lol
The top headlight is called a MARS light. It's operated on a swivel motor to make it appear as though it is "flashing" from one person's perspective, much like moving a flashlight back and forth with your hand. MARS lights were installed on many steam and diesel locomotives in the 1930s-60s. The Nebraska Zephyr at Illinois Railway Museum is also equipped with one. modern locomotives have something similar in the form of a plain old "turn signal" style set of flashing lights called ditch lights.
Chris Ross No offense, but you're preaching to the choir man. We're all railfans here :-)
adfgfds lol ;D
Grand old Lady
I wonder if the 4449 will run under BNSF Sponsorship
Super video !!! :-)
how much is it to ride on the excursion Daylight
Have some fun ride the rails with Steamm!!
All the rolling stock were private owned coaches. youi too can do this. simply spend a mil buying/restoring a pullman, then call any RR......for a 300 hook up fee, and 3 bucks a mile, you too can do this
I never said anything about the paint scheme, I was talking about the fact that that locomotive doesn't need help with the train!
and its also to power the lights and a/c on the train
That constant steam out of the cylinders is only show. It's only a pressure releave valve lol
can anyone tell me why it shoot steem at the cylinders at start up sometimes? It hapens in the beginning of the video. Thanks
YESSS!!!!!
I hate it so much that there are always Diesel Locomotives behind the Steam Locomotive.
That destroys the look of the whole Train.
Why they're don't build an Diesel Locomotive that looks like one of the waggons ? Fitting to the rest of the train ind shape and colour ?
Even here in Germany.
But nice Video thanks for that.
10:55 Yessir!
Content's a bit glitchy and laggy.
This train lot of smoke
What is the Amtrak engine used for
amtrak engine after the 4449 destroys the image of old, if the amtrak engine was at the end of the train
then it would look like a helper engine
It is there as a "security blanket" in case the 4449 would break down somewhere out on the road. That way, they could push it to the nearest siding to get the excursion off of the main.
Eric Freas dynamic braking as well I believe
+Cameron Mocny I believe the Amtrak engine is also used to provide electricity to the cars.
I don't think will ever see another Amtrak engine behind her again.
Very thoughtful driver/engineer leaving the drain cocks open for so long, was he just having a laugh?

how to vid u going follow train bro :O
lol @ the "scraped" comment...I believe he meant scrapped...if it was ever scraped it was probably by a tree branch that had grown too close to the rails.
No not really. Like Steve Klipatrick answered to you. The Diesel is for the case that something on the 4449 brokes.
But do you really belive that the 4449 can't tow 11 wagons, by itself ?
Back in the thirdtees all Trains ran by Steam and there were no Problems !
And I have no problem by using an diesel locomotive behind the 4449 but why they can't hide it that it looks like a waggon ?
OMG!!!
hello ^_^
Did anyone else, Notice that The Flashing Top Head Lamp Bulb Burned out Right After Portland, Oregon! MY Home Uses Totally (Older C.F.L. Bulbs), and Being Replaced By L.E.D. Bulbs I Prefer the "Super White" (Daylight Bulbs!) L.E.D. Lights Last for "A Very Long Time!" They are easily 10 times Brighter than a Incandescent Bulb! (Mag Lights Prove My Theory!) [ Try a 2 "D" cell Led Flashlight, it Lights over 100 Yards! (Their Brag; is 412 Meters!!] Why aren't Railroads, Using This Technology? Different Base Plug/ Different Resistors, and "Bridge Technology!" You Have a Train Light, that "Is Brighter- Thus Safer.) And is Cross Adaptable to Modern Train Engines!
I Love 4449! (Huff and Puff!) (For 1 Verbal Commenter,) The Diesel Supplies Electric to the Passenger Cars, And also Helps on Climbing Grade! Steam Engines "Slip!/ Needing Sand!" [IStrong Strokes each Way! "Huff and Puff!"] Diesels provide "Slow Continuous Power; To the Wheels" [ Physics 101!}
and its not a 2 chime whistle its a 3chime whistle
The diesel will break down before the steamy :-)
The have the amtrak engine due to the fact they are pulling amtrak cars.
The 4449 my is farit
its burnt out i know for sure
oh wow you're jealous that a machine is more famous than you are. How cute!
how hard is it to get daylight cars?
in real life
if the modern daylight pulled its cars cars it would be less annoying
and if they could also take away the Amtrak P42DC
it would be complete
Thanks
