My guild is basically a group of 7-8 of us that have played together for a while, and we always bring 2-3 PUGs to each run. The only thing we look for are classes to fill certain spots for buffs, and we don't care about your logs. You come in, you do your best, you get to free roll on loot with the rest of us (MS>OS), and we clear the dungeon. If you don't know the fights, we'll explain basic mechanics and strats or link you a one-minute video to watch. Dungeon cleared in less than an hour. The attitude some people have is insane. It's a game.

The most laudable thing about this to me is that Ziqo could EASILY pull the "I'm a streamer" card and get into almost any group but instead he blends in with the people, with the rest of us. Very admirable IMO.

I got pre bis and always have my world buffs/consumes and still can't get an invite as a pug to a gnomer group.

I noticed the exact same thing in phase 1 and I must have run BFD 30 times across 3 characters. The Raid groups I joined where the leader grilled me like a job interview and checked my logs, wanted us on discord etc were the worst groups and they wouldn't even clear, or massive arguments would erupt mid raid and people would start quitting.
Where the completely random, casual groups all were friendly to each other and we cleared raid flawlessly.
Tbh some randoms i ran with legit felt like they didnt have the screen on even if i wisped a guy something he said sure and didnt a thing 😢

The only two times i didnt clear bfd on alts was when i didnt make the group lmao once on second last boss and once on last as there wasnt even a melee dps to offtank
Right, my first run bfd, all pug, terrible gear, slow as heck because damage wasnt there. We cleared it first attempt no wipes. People are just goofy.

You can't dodge or parry his attack... so you don't get your hp buff and just get rekt, seems really tough for rogue tanks :(

SOD has attracted the weirdest people expecting 99 parses, bis gear, people that ninja loot level 40 gear
People don't expect 99 parses. As you can see inviting any downy from trade chat that has no clue what they're doing results in a 2+hour gnomer and they didnt even kill all the bosses (first boss in video died at 10:14 they gave up after 12:20)

The parsing/meta mindset is truly community-ruining and fairly toxic. Before Wrath came out there was someone in our guild that refused to do dungeons if you didnt have sunwell gear.
Thats how raiding should be, good time no sweats, and close to failiure. This is the true classic experience!

I quit SOD for the same reason, cba to play a game where I have to permanently get into "job interview" situations. I realize some requirements are to be met fine with that, like I wont show up in lvl 20 gear...but cmon, who has 2 hrs to waste in finding a group...

I mean I agree with you but on the other hand I don’t understand why people don’t find or form a guild that is relaxed? I found one that suits my raid times and you sign up when you have time and the spec doesn’t matter because the content is piss easy anyways. People go pugging instead of finding a guild, completely ignoring one of the core elements of an MMO and then complain about pugs obviously being a bunch of idiots. Ask yourself what you can change in your behaviour because you won’t be able to change the idiots. Sure you can quit, that’s always an option, but there are other options.

We had the same issue. We joined a semi guild run, they were first timers and "still learning"- we oneshot every boss, its litturally a walk in the park.

I enjoy both games for different reasons which makes me a better player in some ways, i think both version taught something the other version has lost.

Yep, who cares if bm does less dmg than melee, it's enough damage that's what counts. Pp are so set on this meta slaving for 10-20% gain when the boss dies if everyone does green parses. The most important thing is performing the mechanics.

Had a friend trying to get the "Immortal" title in LK. Every group had a GS requirement, and every patch the confusion came when they all had amazing GS and zero brains. People linking 99 logs on a random ulduar fight where they didn't do a single mechanic, then they die on the run, ruining the achievement. Happy I got the achievement w/ actual friends. Meta gaming at it's finest XD
nowadays they keep dying in fos to mechanics with 6.2k gs so dunno who did they get it XD

When someone asks if I bring the DPS, I just automatically assume that the person asking the question does not. People who actually do DPS do not care, they just want people who know how to mechanics.
This video exhibits the very best that the WOW community has to offer (people who want to do content and have fun) and the absolute worst (gatekeeping scrubs).
My favorite part of this whole thing is the content is literally unlosable. So unbelievably easy. Every time I’m in discord with these guys I repeatedly ask “when does it get hard. Where are the mechanics? Is this the raid? Is this a boss?”
im my last 2 pugs with my priest we wiped twice on the first boss then the raid disbanded and in my second boss people could not play the electrocutioner mechanic and 1 player just logged of and the other healer refused to try as 9.
At this point the WoW community is just so elitist. This isn't a game anymore but a second job. I'm so glad I've found a guild in retail who just ask to do your best and have fun.
You just hit on the nail on the head with what real riding was about. Good time, pleasant people, knowing their shortcomings but still wanting to gather and give their best and have fun.
That's how I've felt the entire time in WoW. People don't invite due to discrimination, personal reasons, and simply out of sheer ignorance, it's just that level of clown fiesta in World of Warcraft these days. They cannot accept a player into a group if they're different, it's on that level. It's very sad and frankly upsetting and depressing. The Raider IO system is the same way as this, so it's really no difference there.

You’ve inspired me to make my own Gnomer runs on my alts. Too many people want BiS and not players who will listen.
I know all fights and they’re not hard to explain. People over explain them. I will be forming my own PUGS from now on.
I just hit 40 on my main a few days ago. Luckily I am a priest healer so I got like 20 /w on my first LFG despite stating "0/6, green gear, shit at healing". I didn't bother looking up the tactics of the fights beforehand. I have 6 runes, but not the "required" ones. Also forgot to bring any consumables, even water.
Ez 45 min 6/6 no wipes I pushed my 4 buttons from time to time. the Priest life isn't very difficult nor taxing.
Well that's because priest healer is the #1 most in demand spec. EVERYONE is looking for them. On the other end of the spectrum you have rogues and warriors and to a certain extent range spec hunters who nobody want, and will have a very difficult time getting into pugs, even with decent gear and prep. It is what it is.
I raid cutting edge in retail. Never really got big into classic, but decided to take the plunge with season of discovery after a guilty of mine wanted to play. Started playing sod at the end of phase 1, weaseled my way into a pretty solid guild with my mythic logs from Retail, and have been clearing no more every single week since first lock out.
I am so unbelievably, dumbfounded at how much gatekeeping there is in season of discovery towards pug players. Literally, I have gotten into cutting edge guilds with less effort than it takes to qualify for some gnomer pugs.
It’s so absurd.
The requirements are there because they can be there, 95% of the players in this game plays dps, hence 95% of the players are gonna search for the same role when raiding. So if 95% of the players are trying to get the same role at the same time, who do you take? Ofcourse you take the better player who can prove it.
It's been a problem in WoW for awhile now. Being ultra sweat and hardcore has its place and isn't inherently bad, but when it became the standard is when it started causing problems.
There are many variables to why the gaming community in general has shifted this direction but i put most of the blame on "MLG" and streaming personalities. This constantly reinforced idea of "if you aren't min/maxing to the fullest you shouldn't be playing". These types of players always existed but at some point everyone decided that it was the only way to do things. I remember the early days of LoL, nobody knew what they were doing and nobody cared, (much like WoW) eventually the pro-scene arrived and suddenly everyone was concerned with META. if you were not using the best cookie-cutter build you were "throwing the game" and i saw many players pitch a fit over me using a non meta spell or buying items in a different order regardless of how successful i was.
I knew these attitudes took root the moment Classic was announced where every streamer and content creator spewed the same stuff of "you can only play this way or you are bad". Not that Classic didn't have these glaring balance problems but these sentiments were etched into inexperienced players to the point of completely rejecting other players for the tiniest things that did not matter strictly because some streamer said so.
It is okay to have standards and expectations to complete a goal, but it must remain relevant to the objective. The players demanding full world buffs and consumes to do molten core in Classic 2019 were the same players telling everyone the content was 15+years old and easy/boring and to not be taken seriously.
We cleaned it after hitting 40 on Sunday after the begining of the phase 2. We were in BFD equipment and some dungeon items from our dungeon grind. Cleaned it in one run with a few wipes because we didn't know all the mechanics.
It is easy content. Just enjoy and relax playing how you want to play
Happened to me in phase1. some dude gathered noob-friendly BFD group and we did i think 5/7 or 6/7, but had a great time and every1 was grateful to RL
Leave it to players to profile the hell out of party members... but still come as a shock when their twitter favorite gets exposed for a little to much under aged horsing around. The level of investigation for a gnomer group should be "Did you kill boss?" or "Can you watch a quick video and turn your monitor on?"

I've always said "you can't beat a good pug". Bg's, Dg's or raids. That's always been one of the best parts of the game. The elitist have taken over and who the hell likes an elitist? You don't want to work for an elitist, marry an elitist, it would suck to live next to an elitist. Why do they think it's cool to be elitist? They suck the fun outta everything.
We JUST did this last lock out (after 2 lockouts of not even being able to find a group). Did 4/6, had fun doing it, and got some raid experience. Kudos! The game is more fun with people like you playing it
I play SoD and it seems that 80% of people are like how you describe, looking for PUMPERS, LOGS, master's degree, SSN, etc. I bet most of the people in the comments are these people but when you say it, all of a sudden now it's bullshit and they agree with you.

The reason people ask for all of this in pugs, is that you only get 1 shot each lockout, so you want the most success out of it...
If blizz did so we could join other lockouts most of this would disappear, as you could just replace ppl.
We had a priest healer in BFD only spamming renew. He didn't even bother dispelling which was the only reason he was brought in the first place.
i think this shows the beautiful nature of leading the charge in the other direction. Sure there'll be plenty of people that may say you're crazy but you never charge alone, and you did a good thing

Literally all HC players in retail who played old WoW said GearScore is literally dumb to use, it was used in WotLK first, never before...and its dumb because some items are not recognized on it...and people still ask GS and ruin the game by having ridicolous standards, its a game, not a job.
Parsing ruined wow. “Wow look how fast these 10 guys killed this boss, maybe if I take one of those 10 people and put them in our group that means we will kick ass” parsing is a group effort and these morons use it as a way to determine individual skill.
You should get the LFG Bulletin board. it scans all chat channels (LFG, Trade, Local Defense, etc) and puts it on an easier format to view

The problem imo is that SoD is not a "fail-friendly" environment. If you fail a raid u will miss out on loot cuz ur locked to that specific ID. It should be like retail in that regard where u only get locked to bosses defeated. Now groups are forced to be sweaty to not miss out on any loot, and will take no risks - thus defeating the purpose of the game. This rule just make the raids less adventurous and more anxious in a bad way.

I don't really give a fuck about gear or minmaxing or even managing to kill all the bosses in raids as long as the everyone in the raid has fun, knows the mechanics, and how to play their class.

This attitude literally made me quit the game at the end of P1. I got into a BFD as a priest healer, they checked my logs, invited me, I deathran through the shore (pvp server) into the raid for over half an hour, and still beat half the raid there. They inspected me once I zoned in, decided my gear wasn't good enough (despite having logs), and kicked me without saying a word. Wasted almost an hour of my time. Parts of this community suck.

I met a guy who I still am in contact with today over 10 years ago just because he messaged me about joining my ICC raid and my question to him was " are you good?" He said yes and I invited him to the group. He got to the raid and he had greens on. But this dude was good. He smoked everybody, even the people with full epics.
It's seriously unbelievable that people on a video game are treating the game like a job. Requiring certain things is a locked gate to having fun in the game we all PAY to play. I just wanna have fun, and be included. Good on you for being inclusive for the sake of fun.

i could be wrong of course but the community here is definetly more toxic due to the streamers.
We as small guild run gnomeregan 2 times a week with 2 groups , those 2 groups would be considered by most as the worst comp for gnomeregan (and to be honest it could be better).
Often our 2 healers are our only ranged people but we manage to clear it without any problem, we do wipe sometimes on the last boss tho.
But we always clear it with ease , even when our mage healer forgot his to equip his regen rune we killed the last boss with druid + shadowpriest as healers.
People who gatekeep gnomeregan as if its mythic +++++++ they usally the trash themself , keep up the good work Ziqo!

I'm new to WoW Classic but experienced in other MMOs like Path of Exile and Destiny 2. I'm playing an Enhancement Shaman DPS, and I've put in a lot of effort to gear up with pre-raid Best in Slot items and also studying raid fights and guides. Despite this, I'm struggling to find groups for raids. I have two friends who are also returning players and experienced in raiding in other games. i remember when i was doing final fantasy 14 coils dungeons, i couldnt find any groups because of my experiences and deafness that i cannot use microphone, that was worst experienced i've ever had in my entire life. I remember when i was playing wow beta, everyone was so cool and excited and nice, back in the days wasnt so difficult finding a party, but now in 2024, gee gee something changed
Honestly man, I have not had this happen to me personally but knowing you cannot access content through elitism is simply horrible, I'm so happy that things can still be killed and enjoyed with a giant group of "current phase" misfits.

What do you mean by "cannot access content?" You can always access the content, simply make your own raids, nobody is stopping you from doing that and it's not that hard. Then you are in position to pick and choose who to bring.

Sorry, not wrong, but like it's not a problem, people don't like to run a raid, they like to join the communal raids and play with others, this video and like my comment is simply highlighting that content cannot be accessed with certain groups due to elitism, some people also don't join groups if the leader doesn't have the good enough logs to make themselves seem competent.

Hard to watch all these replies from so called raid leaders. The level of leadership these days is really low. Glad you decided to run your own group with people from the back streets of Orgrimmar. That's how raids always worked on release back in time, people cleared several bosses, while getting upgrades , and tried their luck next time
the community is reason why I quit WoW altogether, they are so high on their own farts that I dont wanna bother trying to get into their raid-grps, its not really hard content, but these people pretend like they are doing rocket-science or some shit and you gotta prove yourself worthy to do the raids with them, I cant be bothered.
One of the worst things about classic is the community. The amount of people who just want you to bring the top tier class/spec for every little dungeon is just stupid. I even had a healer leave a group for WC because they said "warriors are the hardest to heal in dungeons". Original vanilla was not like this.
3 hours and didn't kill the last boss? The dungeon takes an organized group 30 minutes.
Every group wants 1 priest, 1 mage, 1 hunter, 1 druid, and 1 paladin/shaman. And ideally 1 lock, 1 warrior, and another paladin/shaman. You're playing one of the most popular dps classes, competing for 2-5 slots, in a dungeon that's punishing for not bringing the correct balance.
Your way of thinking will make more sense with 20 man raids. But 10s are tight. It's not that Gnomer is hard, it's that it's exponentially harder the worse your group is, and people don't want to make something take 5x longer than it has to because they accepted the first person to dm them. Especially when you don't even get a last boss kill.
I lead a gnomer every reset, and I would have turned you down too. You either meet my needs or you don't. I'm not being "shocking" by politely turning you down.

Its actually the same in wotlk. I have almost BIS gear from ICC HC 12/12XP purple/orange logs, only 3 items missing 6,5k GS. In raids with good players i am guaranteed top 5 dps. But then Ruby sanctum came out and i couldnt make it in the first week. As soon as 2nd week started nobody would invite me to a Ruby 25 HC group because i didnt have Ruby Sanctum XP or logs. And to this day i havent been there. And this is so frustrating that im more and more retrieving from the game. I log on for my ICC raid and thats basicly the only time i am online now, like 2 hours a week. And i dont think i continue to cata now because of all this bs.

Ive noticed this trend over all online games Ive played through the last 10-15 years. People stopped playing the game and just go by the guide, chats are full of "hey guys whats the best *insert relevant option*?" type of question, like fcking imagine using your brain for once. No discovery, no adventure, just mindless minmaxing following a guide. As bad as it sounds, I wish it was only a wow problem

only period in time there isn't gatekeeping going on is literally the first lockout of a phase, and by the 2nd lockout the _"6/6 checking logs less than 99 don't even apply need [meta class]"_ begins.
honestly, i am not a bad player. my logs are just fine and i have nothing to worry about. i beat vanilla content as enhancement shaman in 2019 while it was in full meme status, so i have no doubt that i can do the same this time around, but like... i don't need to be a chef to be able to tell that shit in my sandwich tastes... well... like shit.

I quit SOD when 10 days after its release, i saw people treating it like literal wallstreet.
Blue items were selling for 150-300 gold on ah , you had to be geared already to join raids , and ofc, 24/7 gdkp's .

This is classic WoW. People beat it with a quarter of the technology, a tenth of the effort, and none of the experience. People romanticizing this shit and acting like they're Big Time Gamer because they beat an easy dungeon in a 20-year-old game are usually trying to feel good about themselves or performing for an audience. Usually both. It's not just WoW either. This is generally what MMOs look like, risking their whole account to run addons in games that don't even support them just to chase that validation.
If I play an MMO these days, I just slip into a queue, hang out, encourage people who are new, carry runs if needed, answer questions, etc. No one cares about my leaderboard ranks or world firsts or rare achievements from decades ago, not even me. People just want to have a good time in their personal time and not deal with group applications and divas and other bullshit.

I did two separate groups today where we had discord, and the healers couldn't keep up with healing on the very first boss. One healer per run stood in a cloud and died, wiping the raid, and then quit the group.
I know groups don't have to be toxic to clear raids. But fuck me, sometimes it feels like half the player base literally struggles not to drool on the floor.
Minmaxing is the absolute stupidest way to play this game. Why take the only little bit of challenge out of an easy game? That makes it much less fun.
Isn't it ironic that the gatekeeping and elitism is god awful in classic wow, the MMO with arguably the easiest PvE content on the market.
Parsing, logs and raiderio are a pox on the casual scene not because they promote competition, but because the casuals ultimately use them as a bar for participation.
And because casuals don't want to try they end up inviting people who do off of whom they intend to coast.
It's a mindset problem, and most people have a garbage, lazy mindset.

It's kind of hilarious coming back to check out SoD after having not played WoW since the og days of years 1 and 2. People treat these lower level raids like they are a military spec ops mission requiring ridiculous prep and precision.
Part of it is Blizz's fault though. World buffs working in these things is supposed to have made them easier but I think it's really just fostered this hyper-elitist attitude. When none of it is necessary truly to run the raids successfully. Then just a bunch of up-their-own ass weirdos living out their Delta Force spec op fantasies.
People kill me. Just get into a chill guild and you'll get into a Gnomer. If you can't get into one, make a guild. Organize raids in it.
Why expect others to do the work and just leech off what they put together?
I've taken to calling this sort of thing WoW nuzlock. You have to take the first players that apply to the group and fit comp (i.e. you only need to take 2 tanks, 2 heals and 6 DPS)
And honestly these groups have been fun, relaxed, and never had trouble clearing content.
This bullshit right here is why I don't even try to get into the wow raiding scene. I want to play a video game, not go for a fucking PhD.

Playing rogue currently as Tank. Have tonnes of good parses from Phase 1.
Recently completed a gnomer 6/6 as OT, but it turns out Warcraftlogs doesn't have a bracket for 'OT', it's just characterised as DPS, so you're lumped in with all the other rogues.
Because we finished the raid 6/6 and I stacked stam etc thinking that's what's probably most important if the tank does drop, because they did several times, I have a bad parse in the DPS bracket... This also includes tanking the basilisk at Grubbis, because that will get you literally '0' dps done on that boss, essentially dropping your overall parse by 20 points right off the bat...
As a result, if I ask to join a raid, despite having raid lead all through BFD, and also now in Gnomer, they look at my parses, see a gray one, flame me and then ignore me.
I'm so tired of this, I just want to play the game which I'm well able to do, but the sweaties in this game are such shitty people.
I wish they would just ban 3rd party APIs and logging, or create a seperate server where it doesn't exist.
Half the time, these log-checking Andys are guild groups looking for carries. Like Ziqo showed, you don't need pumpers to get through Classic raids. That toxic attitude is a carryover from Retail, where DPS checks are absolutely brutal, even on trash pulls.
Anyone asking for your GearScore in SoD is an immediate red flag anyways.
I luck out where I run multiple raids for a guild, but I've had people call out at the last minute so I just pugged usually to fill the comp if it was a ranged that I'm missing or like a warrior to soak that gear. If someone has enough comprehension to respond in a sentence, they've probably got enough braincells to clear the content, and at most I just ask them to pop into discord to listen to a couple call outs. The people log checking, asking for your social security number, checking your parent's credit score, and ensuring you come from a long line of pumpers are the ones who will spend 2 hours spamming LFG just to wipe to the first boss.
That being said, I've also had to pug with an alt once so far and as a Warrior alt, it was a nightmare. Have the gear to either DPS or OT (wasn't going to make someone suffer through me MT'ing as a warrior) and the amount of group leads out there that just spam for the "perfect" group are astounding when all you need is 1 MT, 1 OT (nice for a pug for Menagerie), 2 healers, 3-4 ranged, and 2-3 melee. Heck, you can even just do an even ranged + melee split if you do the "V" strat on Electrocutioner.
This is why I play Classic ERA. I had the same experience. It's a community problem.
I guarantee you the guy in chat turning away everyone who isn’t 400dps 8/6 exp with 20 years experience playing on SoD servers is also the guy in the forums going “I can’t even get a gnomer group together, SoD is dead.”
(BM Melee Hunter) Just ran a complete rando pug group with no discord and said hardly anything to each other except to assign roles. 1 hour run, downed every boss first try. Rogue tank too. Best group I've ever run with. It's not rocket surgeory, yall.

I've encountered this a lot in SoD. Sweaty elitists who have no time for the casual player is a real shock in the classic world. It's not like the raids require such an attitude...
Not gonna defend those elitists but you didn't full clear it.. people who want to full clear either need to be in a guild or a coordinated pug. It's very hard to kill the last boss with total randoms
This is why blizzard added raid finder on retail -players elitist behavior - People were complaining all the time on forums how the requirements to get into groups are getting out of control so blizzards solution was LFR , so if they add any sort of raid/group finder in SOD this is going to be part players part blizzards fault , so annoying .

The issue is that if you get bad players in your pug, your lockout is bricked. You legit have to investigate to make sure you dont invite ppl who leave after one wipe or DC because they have horrid internet. Thats how it is, you dont want your lockout to get bricked either... Common sense. Notice how you went 5/6? Because you didnt get good loggers or good gear people, you dont need discord to 6/6 pug this raid, just dont invite bad players.
