A few things you got wrong. Cookie times you should put in the microwave for 30.seconds. pineapple lumps where originally first made by rainbow connectiony down in oamaru called pineapple chunks. The pascal ones where moved to Australia when Allen's lollies folded. Also try putting them in the freezer first for 30 minutes before hand. I suggest trying the purple squiggles as they aren't as sweet. Shapes are Australian product. Cadbury use to made in Dunedin here in nz and was a lot better. They closed the factory and moved production to oz and changed the recipe to include palm oil.
Hello beautiful couple💖. I love these vlogs where you're together, interacting, trying, and sampling different things. Your descriptions of the products are great! Tx for sharing. Although watching all these snacks makes me gain 5 lbs 🤣🙉. Some of these snacks are very interesting and look delicious. 🤤 Funny thing is, I recently found a forgotten Whittaker's chocolate bar with nuts in my pantry, half-eaten 🤣. Can't remember where we got it from, but it seems this brand is in Ottawa. Really good and tasty!👌 Enjoy the rest of your time in NZ. Lots of love to both of you. 💖
Wow you have Whittaker's in your pantry!!! That is amazing, I am so excited to find it back in Canada now. Thank you for all the kind words, we love making videos like this!! I'm so glad you enjoy watching them 🥰
Most of those snacks are iconic because they are our childhood treats but honestly we all grew out of pineapple lumps and chocolate fish. Also production moved from NZ to Australia because of cost and tbh they arent as good as they were in NZ
L & P, Lemon & Paeroa I believe originated in the town of Paeroa south of Auckland. Apparently using spring water from the town, happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, I remember my parents telling me this as a kid.
Correct!! I ended up looking this up while editing the video and was surprised to learn this because I thought for sure it was a fruit haha. Very cool history & delicious drink! Thanks for watching & for the comment :)
So the spring water from Paeroa is no longer used. If you read the ingredients list it says mineral salts supposed to recreate the original spring water constitution.
New Zealand is obviously a small country and creates alot of iconic items, but we adopted alot of traditional food recipes from the English. If anything was once from New Zealand, huge Australian companies will buy it, cause they can afford it. Arnotts and nestle is definitely Australian, but Cadbury was and kinda is still English, then made in New Zealand, but now Australia.
I've seen mackintoshes a lot but haven't grabbed any yet, thanks for the rec! I haven't heard of sparkling duet yet. The pies here are 10/10, same with golden kiwifruit though I think those are from Aussie? I want to try Marmite before we leave too.
All those things used to made in NZ apart from couple of brands.Jaffas are best to rolled down Baldwin St or wooden floor in old picture theatrs. Jet planes used to look like proper little planes(yummy). Aussies make crap confectionary ie Whittakers compared to Cadbury chocolate.
Try Lemon and Te Aroha, which was the first fizzy drink in NZ and instead of having carbonated water has naturally fizzy soda water from a spring in Te Aroha, plus naturally flavoured lemon. Went out of business about 50 years ago but had been reopened in last couple years. Soooo good
First of all paeroa in L&P is said like pie raw say that quickly pie raw and that's the pronunciation of that word and paeroa is the town the drink is made in. Google it and you'll see the giant bottle. Shapes are a NZ company in Australia. And Feijoa is pronounced fee Joe a. Pineapple lumps are best left at room temperature as the are chewy when soft. A great crisp over twisties is Rashins. So rich as are salt and vinegar chips or crisps with Maggi onion dip not needing the vinegar or lemon added. Jaffas are best sucked those jet planes are also known as ducks feet as they look like them too. Moro and snickers are basically the same. Cookie time is best dunked in tea or hot chocolate. And Cadbury luxury flakes are the best most rich chocolate. Hope this helps.
Pineapple Lumps are a New Zealand creation. Not sure if Australia bought the company or if it was a New Zealand side of the company. But production was stopped in NZ and moved to Australia, and the products are not as good.
Great video! I pretty much agree with you on everything, but you should have had Snackachangi vinegar and salt chips - sooo good. Every now and then I need a pineapple fruju, just because it reminds me of childhood summers at the beach - same with L&P, really (I usually dilute it with 2/3 soda water though, to cut the sweetness 😅). RJs raspberry logs are one of my favourite things in the world - so, so good!
Thank you!! I think we've had Snackachangi before but not the vinegar & salt, I'll have to grab a bag before we leave! So many good snacks here, I'd like to try more flavours of the Fruju blocks too.
I love these types of videos 😂 I think I would have to agree with your ratings though. Some of those snacks are iconic or nostalgic but don't taste great. RJs, Cookie Time and Whittakers are amazing though. I found RJs licorice in eastern Canada when I lived there. It was just the plain red licorice and it did taste a bit old/stale... but we were so excited to find it! Hope you enjoy the rest of your time in NZ!
Thank you so much, these types of videos are so fun to film!! I appreciate you watching and the comment 😄 I hope we get as lucky as you did and find RJ's back in Canada!
Put the original cookie time ones in the microwave for 15-20sec. Awesome. how dare you insult pineapple lumps! glad you got the green jet plane eventually. they're the best flavour. also the purple ones. that chocolate fish looked a bit pretentious. just the basic one from the dairy does the trick. best snack when on the run though is a steak n cheese pie, with a perky nana for afters.
Twisties, Burger Rings & Rashuns all had a recipe change a few years ago; and are now far inferior products to what they used to be. Its almost as if they changed factories, equipment, cooks and recipes all at once they're so unlike what they used to be.
Oof that sucks!! I really like twisties, much more than I thought I would haha 😅 so to think they used to be much better makes me want to time travel and try to OG recipe!!
Twisties, burger rings & shapes were NEVER kiwi classics when I grew up in Auckland. All the rest are or were as most of them are now made in Australia.
I hope you didn't get too sick afterwards Brittany. Most of the stuff you reviewed are just c**p. but I do enjoy Queen Anne & Whittakers & a plug for Potter Brothers. I do feel Donovan was out of his comfort zone & in need of a Craft "Moro" Beer. Thanks
Ahh very interesting! I thought Feijoa wasn't native to NZ either but from Brazil and brought here at some point during colonization? I am so curious to see how Aussie snacks compare.
Man it sucks, you guys missed out on the actual products, all those treats used to be amazing and locally kiwi made with the best ingredients. Now everything has been on sold where they just extract maximum profits and give you utter crap in return. The exception being Whitakers and to some extent RJs. Pretty sure I have eaten my body weight in rjs red licorice logs lol

A lot of NZ 🇳🇿 sweet factory have been brought by Australian company and now they are made in Australia now
Still a NZ product.
You should definitely take a look at the classic Crunchie Bar advertisement, just because.
The train robbery one?? I just watched it, absolutely amazing. Catchy tune too! We have Crunchie in Canada and it's pretty popular, yum!

Paeroa is a place in new Zealand that has naturally carbonated springs, that fizz is natural

They have Whittakers at the Scottish and Irish stores in ottawa…$8.59!
They also have RJ’S but black licorice with chocolate …..
I found a couple spots already in Calgary that carry it!! Just bought a coconut block last night for $5.50 at Safeway. I'm so happy!!

Most of our chocolate production places got shut down and moved to Australia
GUYS! Have you tried the RJs raspberry licorice easter eggs?! Soo good! 😋 Happy Easter 🐣❤
I haven't even seen those!! I'll have to try and find them today before our flight leaves for Aussie!! Sounds amazing.

Cadbury moved to Australia a fee years ago. But they used to be in Dunedin & Oamaru

The quality of their dairy isn't as good. Grain fed cows produce different milk to grass-fed.

L&P is not fizz, it's a "soft drink". Paeroa is a town in the North Island.
Its a fizzy

They changed the size saving money like Cadbury did with skinny chocolate.
London Drugs in B.C. caries both RJs and Whittakers, I imagine the Calgary ones probably do to.
