Thank you so much Debbie! I think recognizing our many blessings both big and small is the key to true happiness. Thank you for your interest and kind words :)
Carry you a small potato and alittle kosher salt cut the potato in half put alittle salt in your pan and scrub it with the potato it will take alot if not all the stuff off your pan keep up the good work i enjoy all your videos
Thanks for letting me camp with you. I haven't been camping in years because I'm all crippled up, but I'd really like to find a place and go out to spend some time in the woods. Thanks again.
I make last minute decisions to head out to the woods myself. My folks bought me that exact same back pack when I was 13. I passed it down to my oldest son when he was 14. The pack is well made and over 40 years old. Great Video. God Bless
Matt, can I hand on a tip? If you have to collect SMALL timber, carry a 2.5kg (5lb) paper flour bag. It folds up flat very nicely, it has a gusset and you can actually IRON and fold it flat so its not much bigger than a postcard and about as thick. But ASTONISHINGLY strong. I also carry the little 1kg one folded into the big one and the little one can just be placed on the fire and lit. It holds all your kindling together. Also, I carry in the bottom of my kit the lid of a largeish tin so if the ground is damp I can put the lid on the ground and put the basic kindling on top of it.
It’s an older video I know but let me say Matt is an awesome dude at the pathfinder gathering he was my neighbor and knows about hammock camping ⛺️ and guarantee you never did a flint and steel fire till now because of this Man👍👊
I would NOT watch a 38 minute video from any other Bushcrafter but you. I tried to watch a 38 minute video from David Canterbury once, but after an hour and forty-five minutes I finally gave up. You ROCK, Matt. Now, what the hell should I do with this handful of smalls and log I gathered for you?
LOL! You never fail to give me a chuckle Jim!! Hang on to those smalls, we are going to need them soon for another video :) Thanks for hanging in there for the whole 38 mins! I will try not to let them get too much longer lol! Take care buddy!
Thank you for your time & interest! Please SUBSCRIBE and ring the BELL Button to stay notified of all the upcoming videos. If you are interested, there are links available to my other social media pages as well links for purchasing the clothing and gear I choose, use and recommend. Take care!
Good Morning Brother Matt ! I've Never Been The First To Watch A New Video . . . Until Today. After Watching It Through, 197 Others Had Viewed It Also. Another Awesome Video From The Woods Mister, Thank You. Here's Something You Might Try, Works Well For Me. Stop In A Cracker Barrel, Have Some Pancakes With One Extra Syrup. Then, Take The Empty Bottles Home, Clean Them Out And Refill One With Olive Oil. Use Another One To Carry Out Some Popcorn Seeds For A Mid-Day Or Bedtime Snack In The Woods. The Glass Sidewall Are Quite Thick Enough, They Will Not Break. You Mentioned The Early Bird Gets The Worm. True. But It Is The Second Mouse That Gets The Cheese From The Trap. :-) Do Not Rush Anything When Out In The Woods, Enjoy Those Moments. God Bless, Darrell
Thank you Matt.Ive camped a few times and I loved it.As a female,I wouldnt feel safe alone, not without packing a firearm or a man.lol.Camping through you and Corporals Corner is the next best thing.
I’m a 23 y/o male and carry a handgun when I camp (technically I carry it everywhere but whatever). There’s nothing wrong with wanting to carry a firearm until you’re more comfortable. Truly the only thing I’ve had to use it on was a rattlesnake, but I carry it to handle hogs. If you’re concerned about people you may run into that’s a whole different ballgame, shooting someone in the woods in self defense could get legally hairy imo. All that aside, just talk some friends into going with you as often as possible. I’ve found camping with my buds to be very relaxing and a great bonding experience.
I truly appreciate you you taking the time to tune in and I understand completely where you are coming from. Honestly, I would recommend to you to carry a firearm if you are going solo in the woods however, if you aren't comfortable with going solo, don't feel bad at all. Trust your gut and do what feels right. It may be that camping with others is what is best for you and there is nothing wrong with that at all :) Just being out there is what is important whether solo or group camping. Take care!
I usually do or Ill bring my blue heeler..I am fortunate my family owns alot of land between TN & north ga so I'm able to play around in those woods when I get to back home..thanks for your videos great content
@@liveinlove5958 That is awesome to have access to lots of land like that to be able to explore and establish camp. I am fortunate to have some land access but it isn't very large of an area. I am thankful for what we have. I appreciate your time and interest very much! Take care.
Great to see a young man share his passion. Thank You Brother for that. The gift of the outdoors is one of God's most beautiful to us, and so incredible when we take time to enjoy it. Thank You 👍
I use a 6x6 piece of stainless chainmail with a hang ring in one corner to do camp dishes. Works great for cast iron skillets too. It's light, takes up a negligible amount of room and makes dishes way easier. Set the pan upside down in the fire and use the mail to scrape it out after its burnt.
There's good reason for the heightened senses! Yesterday evening I was out camping and getting ready to cook when I heard shuffle and got the feeling I should watch what came over the hill. Over the hill walks a hog. I don't care if you like guns or not, you become Doc Holiday when you see a hog staring you down.
Oh my Goodness! All those videos of all the damage hogs do and how dangerous they are. They killed a woman a while back, right in front of her house!!!
Good stuff! I camp in a fairly remote area in the Columbia River Gorge but can still hear the faint sound of trains at night. You inspired me to pick up an old kelty pack I saw on FB for $10.00. It looks a little bit bigger than yours because it has four of those large pouches on the side. Love the tip for using a carabiner with the MSR stakes. Sometimes it’s the little things. 😀
Another great video! You are amazing at presenting your knowledge and passion of survival and bushcraft in a way that is warm and inviting. You belong in the realm of les Stroud, dave Canterbury and ray Mears.
Matt, this was a great video. Probably my favorite one you've done. I really liked you engaging us with a little humor about collecting firewood. It made me feel like I was there with you. Keep it up! I'll keep watching. 👍
Corporal Kelly sent me here, I enjoyed your video so subbed to your channel. I would like to mention just one tip I learnt from the Corporal, that it is mandatory to carry bacon in your kit and wrap your food items with the bacon before cooking then "it's Outstanding and Good To Go!" Thanks for the heads up on the Mossy Oak Pad, I will be on the look out for something similar available here Down Under to add to my kit.
I hear that! It is some times hard to get them to collect it! In the time that they pick up one or two pieces, I will be sitting by the fire with a stack of wood ready to go :) I teach a Pathfinder Youth Group monthly and they never look happy when I say "collect fire materials!"
What an enjoyable trip. Enjoyed your simple but nourishing meal as well. Matt, if you ever get up North here, be sure and give me a holler. Lord willing, maybe we could even enjoy some coffee over a campfire or two in the back country.
Lonnie, That would be more than an honor my friend!! If I can get up that way I will absolutely let you know! I would enjoy that so much. I have had a dream of visiting Alaska since childhood. I truly hope to make it happen sometime and no doubt, you could show me the part that I would like to see, the back country, a little off the beaten path :) Thank you so much for tuning in and for your kind words Lonnie! Black Hat Bushcraft between you and Corporal Shawn, I’m learning a ton of stuff! I hope to get to the point where I can teach basic (BASIC) skills to young kids. A long way to go though. 😊👍🏽
Hi Matt, I enjoy your videos. From watching one of your previous videos, I know that you prefer sleeping in a hammock because of back issues. I saw one video by the “English woodsman” who setup a hot tent between two trees, then tied cordage to one tree, laced it through the tent and tied it off around the other tree so he could hang his hammock inside the tent. So, I guess he had the best of both worlds; keeping warm with a wood stove and sleeping in a hammock, which he prefers as well.
That pine behind you is a long leaf pine isn't it? I live in Wayne County NC and I have those trees all over the place. Great video and keep up the great work. Its inspiring.
Thank you so much Lane! I really enjoy trying different tweaks to my tarp like that to get it in the optimal position for any given camp. I appreciate your time and interest and I hope the idea will be useful for you as well :)
Thanks for another great video. No need to worry about the noise of city or town cars. I have the same issue where I live. Good hammock and tarp setup. One thing I bought for my tarp is a Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock Sleeve. I cut my the tarp ridge line the total length of the Hammock and straps stretched out. Using the Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock Sleeve I can easily set up my tarp in high wind conditions, once the tarp ridge line is secure the tarp is secure making it easier to tie out. when its time to pack up. just slide the hammock skin back over the tarp, fold it in half and roll it up then wrap the ridge line around it to keep it together. this works for me and made my setup and take down time much quicker. Just a thought if you didn't already know.
I use the same skillet and when I was camped in New Mexico I cleaned mine with some creek sand. It scrubbed up just fine. Even took some of the black spots from former fires away. Love pathfinder products.
Looked like a great time Matt👍👍one of the things that you said was that food always tastes best in the outdoors. I have to agree. Thanks for sharing and we’ll catch ya on the next episode. ATB Mike
Thanl for this inspirational video. I keep wanting to go out but I am a little intimidated going out alone. I've never been alone in the woods overnight. Thanks you from the Great Northwoods,NH
Enjoyed your video I am learning so much from watching these videos, also that meal looked great, thanks for posting best wishes to you my friend, cheers from ireland
Absolutely loved it brother! So good to see you out havin a good time. Its been awhile since i did an overnighter n i need one! Sausage and peppers looked a mighty fine meal! I found these exercise mats 4x8 for 20$ at wallys world. Such a good deal i cut it and ended up with 2 6ft sleep pads and a sit mat plus an insert for a small alice pack i got.. them mossy oak ones i seen. Pretty thick so i know it must be comfortable! 👍👍👍
Thank you so much Rick! It was very enjoyable to be out there for a quick overnight and just enjoy the fire, the fresh air and the sounds of the forest. Your idea about the mat sounds really good. That way you can custom size it to you needs. I may have to try that at some point. I appreciate you sharing that idea and of course for tuning in! Take care brother!
Out here in Wyoming, it is quiet almost wherever you go...but not much straight wood....Unless you camp along the river channels, about all you have is juniper and sagebrush. And cactus. Which is good to eat. And cottontails, and pack rats and rattlers.
Matt we use to give my son Michael a bath in lavender and Michelle also uses lavender oil to help her rest at night but I’m a firm believer of the lavender helping rest god bless brother and hope to see ya soon
God bless you and your family brother! It isn't magic, but it does truly help I believe. I believe in herbal remedies for certain things because of experience. I hope to catch up with you soon my friend.
Excellent video! Good for you for taking some time to get out in nature. I totally understand about getting away from highways. One of my favorite hangouts is a stone's throw from Hwy 64 so I always hear traffic. If I'm doing a dedicated campout for a few days I've got some family land in Pamlico Co which is 50+ miles away from any major roadway. I love it out there! Anyway, great job and God bless!
Good food Matt. That little cutting board looks nice & that pack looks really solid. I didn't know they had it at the Pathfinder store. I will order one so I can use it with my Pathfinder bushpot. - Take care Matt. - Marco
Nice overnight. I noticed the fish mouth spreader/bottle lifter and would like to know how wide of a pot it will work with, please sir. It appears to be a small one.
This is a very, very, good video, I learned a few things that I had totally forgotten. You are also right about getting out and using those skills, other wise you may forget some of those skills.
Great trip Matt ... Was that pan seasoned ? Dinner looked great . Yup use your gear . Get use to it . And yup just getting use to the woods by yourself is a big deal
I enjoyed your video. I was shocked when you left your pan with food out over night. I'm in Colorado and that is something I can not do unless I want to have company. Bear, fox, coyote and now wolfs frequent where I like to over night. I like if just doing an over night to slice the veggies and toss in a zip lock with a little cooking oil and my favorite spices before heading out. Pack in my skillet for hiking in. I do the same for my omelet fixens so I just have to add eggs. Faster meals, easier clean up, more time to stare at the stars.
I was so pleased to see you bow your head, and thank God for his blessing, and the food. I've not seen anyone else do that.
Thank you so much Debbie! I think recognizing our many blessings both big and small is the key to true happiness. Thank you for your interest and kind words :)

Great video Matt, take care brother😎
Great video Matt! I always enjoy the solo overnighters when I get the chance. And good tip on the hunting pad!
Thanks for another great video..what a fantastic dinner love the vidalia onion..being from east coast I dont like other onions..
Good food Matt. That little cutting board looks nice & that pack looks really solid. I didn't know they had it at the Pathfinder store. I will order one so I can use it with my Pathfinder bushpot. - Take care Matt. - Marco

Made me regret not getting out this week. Thanks for the video.
I totally understand that feeling! Thank you for your time and interest for tuning in!
@@blackhatbushcraft np keep up the great work.
Nice overnight. I noticed the fish mouth spreader/bottle lifter and would like to know how wide of a pot it will work with, please sir. It appears to be a small one.
Very good ideas, Thank you very much
This is a very, very, good video, I learned a few things that I had totally forgotten. You are also right about getting out and using those skills, other wise you may forget some of those skills.
Great trip Matt ... Was that pan seasoned ? Dinner looked great . Yup use your gear . Get use to it . And yup just getting use to the woods by yourself is a big deal
Thank you
Love dinner grace! Thank you for that!
Thank you so much Vicki! I think is always import to give thanks to the Lord for blessings :)
Great video Matt, keep up the great info! Thank you.
Great video, enjoyed. Your overnight camping trip, and skills setting up camp!
Thank you so much Ron! I really appreciate your time and interest!
Very nice. God bless.
