NBC 6/WTVJ was Florida’s first television station and has been covering news in South Florida for over 60 years. NBC 6 provides news, weather, traffic and sports during Today in South Florida, South Florida Today, South Florida Nightly News and South Florida Tonight.

I developed a love for local news broadcasting when I started watching NBC6 after school back in the early 2000s (it was a long, orchestral opening with the gold, swiveling peacock)- in retrospect, perhaps I was bit too interested the news as a 12-year-old...
Nevertheless, I was proudly present for the first broadcast at the AA Arena studios (I was in the 'News at 4' opening, waving as the camera panned over). I got pumped with every new team member addition, graphics & music update, and for that loooong overdue set design change. Seriously, you all got your pennies worth for all those glass blocks and wood paneling.
And while life happens, I also lamented the departures of notable talent, including Kelly Craig, Bob Mayer, Pam Giganti who were, at one point or another, the soundtrack to my morning routine for many years.
During my formative years, WTVJ has informed me, inspired me care to about my community, and has helped to define why I will always in my heart consider South Florida to be my home. I live in a different city now and can't quite keep up with local happenings, but every once in a while I'll search 'WTVJ' and find gems like this.

What, no Jackie Gleason? From 1964 to 1970, WTVJ's facilities were used to produce his variety show from the Miami Beach Auditorium.

WTVJ was originally a CBS affiliate, before the affiliation switch with WCIX at the start of 1989.
