  • In this video, I’ll show you how I measure and mix my epoxy. I’ll also go over 3 different application methods and the pros and cons of each.
    Also, Nitrile Gloves are always recommended when using epoxy. When I made this video COVID was at its peek and I choose to leave the proper gloves for those with an immunity deficiency, the elder, and medical workers. Please wear the proper PPE when working with chemicals. When in doubt contact the maker of the epoxy you use for recommendations on what to use.

    Love it thank you for showing so many different ways. Normally all I see is Epoxy method but they do not go into detail about timing, or waiting vs rapid use. As always you are a gem and a huge help!!

    Can I ask, I’ve just started my first tumbler. I had it spray painted black first. Then I did a thin layer of 1:1 epoxy and as I was spreading it with my finger before I’d put glitter on it sort of went a mottled look? What does that mean and how do I fix? I tried a bit of heat gun and it didn’t seem to make a difference.

      I’ve learned to not let slight imperfections bother me. What may seem like a huge deal to me, the customer never sees. I’m sure you are doing your best to keep those bubbles and particles to a minimum. Art is never perfect. In the end all your customers will see is something handmade just for them.

    I just started making my first tumbler and i spray painted it, let it dry overnight. Then i used mod podge to do first layer of fine glitter. I sprayed it with clear spray and let it dry. Then I did my first layer of epoxy. I put it on the turner and used the lighter to try to pop any bubbles and I got too close and burnt it in a couple of places. I let it finish curing then I attempted to remove them by sanding but that’s not working. I’ve got it all sanded and thought I would attempt to put another layer of glitter on. Since it’s got a layer of epoxy can I only do the epoxy method of adding glitter or can I do the mod podge again?

    I am using the same resin as in this video. Wondering if you can tell me, if you “work” the resin to long does it change its curing to a hard finish? By working I mean heating it adding alcohol inks and moving the resin with air? Any help is appreciated. I can mix resin for 2 cups work them the same way and still one will cure one will be tacky sometimes. This also occurs if I don’t use the inks sometimes. I have eliminated heating my bottles thinking could be condensation. Also set a timer to be sure it is stirred and mixed well. Scraping the sides etc… I can’t figure out what I’m doing to cause the inconsistently.

      Sometimes those chunky glitters are a bit to slick and tend to wick the epoxy away. I like to use Rust-Oleum 2x ultra spray sealer before the epoxy to help it have something to hold onto. I will make sure to make a video from start to finish or I’ll talk about it in my next vlog.

    • @SandysOrganizedChaos

      I would give it a sand and repaint just to make sure your epoxy has something to hold onto. Sometimes the powder coating is a bit slick.

  • @shanazimmerman5386
    @shanazimmerman5386 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m a little lost as I am completely new to this whole process. When you applied the second example you mixed A and B together correct? And the one you use. You apply which one first and which one second?
    I am putting permanent vinyl on cups and was curious how I should go about that. Since they are stainless steal tumblers, that are colored.
    Do I put the vinyl on first then put the epoxy over them so the vinyl doesn’t get rubbed off?

    • @SandysOrganizedChaos
      @SandysOrganizedChaos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just need equal 1:1 ratio of A and B. One is thicker than the other so I try to add the thinner side to the thicker side so it is easier to scrape out of the cup into the other.
      If there is a texture to the pre painted tumblers the vinyl may lift off after you apply your epoxy over top. I would epoxy first. Apply your decal. And epoxy again to seal on the decal. If the tumbler isn’t textured you should be good to apply the decal first then seal with your epoxy.

    • @SandysOrganizedChaos
      @SandysOrganizedChaos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You always want to follow the warnings on what ever brand you use. Alumilite has a TH-cam page as well and shows lots of helpful information. From them I’ve learned that if you are in a very well ventilated area you don’t need a respiratory. If working in a small area with no ventilation use your respiratory. This is a helpful video I watched from them. th-cam.com/video/GnTdIjdJ-FI/w-d-xo.html

    I am worried that my basement will be too cool to work on tumblers down there. Can you give any advice on this?

    I am just beginning and this has been helpful! One big question I've been having is, how to get the bubbles out? Hair dryer? Do you spread the epoxy over the cup and then go back with a hair dryer?

      I use a kitchen torch that you can buy off Amazon. The hair dryer will heat up the epoxy helping remove bubbles but I’ve found using a torch to quickly pass over the epoxied tumbler gives much better results.

    How do I get the waves out? Everything is level and I'm still getting waves around the cup. Very frustrated

    What do you do for protection from the harmful effects of epoxy? I’m just learning

      Nitrile gloves are always recommended. A respirator is always encouraged if the area you are working in is small and cannot be properly ventilated. When in doubt, reach out directly to the company of the epoxy you use for proper usage. I use Alumilite and I recommend subscribing to their TH-cam channel and watching their videos all about Amazing Clear Cast. Here is a great video about properly mixing and what they recommend for safety equipment th-cam.com/video/GnTdIjdJ-FI/w-d-xo.html

    For the epoxy method, after it turns and cures and you add another layer of epoxy do you sand afterward and then do another coat of epoxy?

    • @SandysOrganizedChaos
      @SandysOrganizedChaos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a very light sanding on that coat over the glitter if needed I don’t want to destroy the chunky glitter that may be poking up I just want to lightly knock down any points, then do one more coat before I sand really good.

    I just want to know how many ml's of A & how many ml's of B epoxy are needed for tumblers? I know it needs to be the same ratio but I need to know how much of each (ie 5ml, 10ml, etc)

      It depends on the size of the Tumbler. Everyone uses different amounts. 20 OZ I use 10 ml A and 10 mil B! 30 OZ I use 20mil A and 20 Mil B. You have to figure that out actually. It depends on you
