Coil split and coil tap are NOT the same thing!! Coil splitting is literally splitting the humbucking pickup in half, eliminating an entire coil, turning it into a single coil. Coil tapping is simply reducing the power/output of the pickup. Coil tapping is usually done with single coils. Commonly, coil tapping is used on high output single coils, to reduce their output to a more vintage, lower output. 🤘

Coil splitting requires 4 wires. Coil tapping requires only 3 wires. It's tapping into the coil at a specific point in the wind. yeah that guy is a jackhammer, i'm 45 years old and most of the guys that I see gigging usually go with an older used guitar versus a new cheap guitar or they have had their instruments for many years. i've got a half dozen or so Ibanez RGs and most of them came from late 80s early 90s and all my newer stuff is prestige level. even though the FR on this guitar is probably good enough for home use I think the cracks will begin to show when you take it out and rip on that thing repeatedly night after night, more than likely it will start to show signs of wear and tear much faster. if I were to take this guitar out on a gig I would probably opt to drop in a OFR and some hardened steel or titanium nut locking screws successfully moving the price of this guitar up to about double in price.

The floyd specials and probably these are functional to a decent standard but it's the saddle material. My strings started to eat into them and sometimes sticking, bound to them. A floyd upgrade is inevitable with trems like this.
I have NEVER seen this! Read about it, searched google, asked guitar techs, NOBODY can show a pic of these "divots", "dents", marks, or whatever. I have come to believe that Floyd Rose SNEAKS into some of their boxes the Floyd Rose Special Bigfoot or Loch Ness saddles. Until I see it... It doesn't happen.
Zinc alloy saddles are a deal killer to me... All budget FR guitars always come with some variation of the FR Special... Thing's practically useless after the second or third set of strings and makes you have to buy a new set of saddles, assuming the bridge is still alive after some beating up. Note that the nut is also made of allow zinc and will tear itself apart with the slightest over tightening of the locking nuts. As much as I appreciate brands trying to make low budget solid instruments... I wouldn't walk into floating bridge waters if I were them.
It looks just like the EVH 5150 i just picked up. I paid almost double the cost of the SBS, even though retail is over $1000, and mine doesn't even have an alder body. Thanks for the video!!
These prices are telling you that you are being over charged from the bigger brands. Stuff is marked up because of inflation. We would not be paying prices that we are paying if America was not 36+ trillion in debt. My dad bought me a brand new USA Fender Stratocaster in 1977 with a maple neck for $595 bucks. And I still have it.
My SS260 is fun to play. It's great for the money. It doesn't compare to my Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas or Ibanez RG550, but it does compare nicely or even better with my lower end Jacksons and the like. I will say the trem is surprisingly good and I really enjoy the pickups. Just to clarify, as this seems to be a more and more common misconception, even with some dealers. Coil split is splitting a coil off a humbucker to make it like a single coil. Coil tap is used on single coils and stacked single coils to reduce output. The terms are not interchangeable. I really have had no issues from mine. Like you said, not sure how they do it for this price. Great color options. Several pickup combos. My first one got scuffed in shipping, they replaced it fast. The really flat radius on these is really nice as well.

Just to chime in, I have high end guitars and I bought two of these guitars and they are killer. Obviously everyone has different opinions and what I think is great someone else may not. But they really got it right for me in the places that count. The neck, which I and everyone who has tried my guitar, thinks is awesome and the pickups which are really, really good.

What about the neck profile? Maybe you mentioned it, but I didn't see/hear it in the video. Is it closer to a modern Jackson style thin depth neck, or a deeper/fatter depth neck like older Gibson?
I got a set of very nice looking Guyker locking tuners in all silver for $20. They may not be the best locking tuners but they do their job and I wish more people knew of them. Makes changing strings easier and if I have want to loosen the strings to service the bridge/posts the strings stay in their pegs nicely. Overall it's more of a novelty and a nice to have and for $20 I don't see why not.
@@Ben-ld1qii got my first set of locking tuners on a harley benton explorer style. (grover tuners) it personally thought locking tuners were kind of a gimmicky thing. Until I changed the strings the other day. And I think im going to swap out the tuners on some of my other guitars. But I won't go crazy doing it on every guitar. (I have over 6 that I play regularly.) But I may swap them on some over time on some older guitars (some 60s and 70s models) they make string changes easier. And the biggest thing is with multiple guitars if you want to clean the neck or frets you can do it without wasting strings.

I gifted a pair Guyker locking tuners in gold and a gold Guyker rolling bridge for my brother's Harley Benton HB35-Plus since he uses that guitar to experiments with lots of string gauges. I hope they actually perform well. For my Floyd Rose guitar I couldn't care if they don't perform that well because we don't actually ever use them like that lol.

My first ever guitar was a Harley Benton Fusion III FCH FR, and as a beginner I wanted to keep exploring with new strings and I also read that locking tuners especially on a Floyd Rose is a gimmick but they definitely make string changes easier and more convenient. I keep the strings long enough so that if I loosen them I can actually easily remove the Floyd Rose bridge if needed, and just as you said it makes cleaning the fretboard very easy. Altho I'm sure in your case you meant that you would remove the strings from the pegs and later put the back in.
@@alkyhauler8185maybe not today anymore. But my 1992 Samick Viper Skull Guitar needed new stud positions When I changed the licenced samick Tremolo for a Gotoh 1996t. Not the easiest job in the world filling the old holes and put new ones in that are sturdy enough because part of the new ones overlay with the fillings. Long story short: At least google the tremolos and their stud positionings. If it‘s no easy 1on1 swap, talk to an experienced luthier.
@alkyhauler8185 Old licensed floyds that had the angled back edges were not always direct swapable replacments without having to fill the old post holes in the body and drill new ones.
Got a first run purple SBS MS-260 with the relic job... the neck pocket needs routed deeper and the tiny frets suck, but the roasted maple/alder is really nice.
@darren1450 It's a fantastic guitar for the money - although I had a feeling Fender was going to come after them for the original headstock they were using.
I hope these brands ARE making Fender sweat! Their prices are stupid. People are conditioned to buy them. Harley Benton and Jet have come up too. My new Jet guitar was $200 and better quality than a Player series Fender Strat at $800. Theres a problem there

I'm surprised that you didn't recommend something like Harley Benton Fusion III Floyd Rose with the ebony fretboard, they look gorgeous and cost about ~$300 and come with Floyd Rose 1000 Although something about this guitar looks much more 80s style but I personally think the HB Fusion FR guitars are still better looking.

The real question is can the Floyd be directly swapped out for a real Floyd posts and trem.
