This race was 30 years ago cause I was born around time of race June tenth 1992. First time I actually watched a full classic nascar cup or Busch race for that matter on TH-cam on my tv. And seeing all the nascar legends on this track over all the years that I feel very blessed and fortunate to have been able to race at hikory same place where all the legends and famous drivers in nascar and latemodel and usac and asa racing has raced and got my first ever late model race was here and won with out ever seeing the track in person before with 10 practice laps qualified pole and led every 150 laps when I was 12. Also I got to drive a two seater full blown cup car around Atlanta motor speedway giving ppl rides on old surface where same drivers once raced on as well and did it for 20 hours 10 sat and 10 hours Sunday only one 1 hour break and it was blast my phone's gos said I was going 160 mph top speed with passengers
Thoroughly enjoyed looking back on this one. Ole Tommy was a little underated as a driver imo. Literally every car in that field torn up except one. #17 came from the back twice made a bid for the lead with about 50 to go in typical DW style before they used him like a ping pong ball. lol. Still came back to get a top 5.🏆🏆🏆. Just goes to show you "can" race clean and go just as fast. Man Spencer was dirty. 😂 I was hoping Bobby would clean his clock but he didn't. 😳 Passed him "fairly somewhat" clean. Love short track racing. Thanks for sharing.
They had repaved the track before this race but they didn't give the new layer of tarmac time to dry, so the track felt slicker than usual in turns 3 and 4, which led to the majority of cautions.
Did cars not have to go to the back of the starting grid in the event of a driver change back then? Dale Earnhardt was allowed to start on the outside pole in a car that Ken Schrader qualified.
Caution after caution after caution after caution after caution after caution. 26 Cautions is a NASCAR record for all 3 series. 1. 1992 Hickory Motor Speedway NXS (26 Cautions) 2. 2005 Coca-Cola 600 MENCS (22 Cautions) 3. 2006 Martinsville 250 NXS (21 Cautions) 4. 2007 Tums 500 MENCS (21 Cautions) 5. 3 Bristol races MENCS (20 Cautions) (2 day races and 1 night race)
Few mistakes here: There was a (then) Busch series race at Memphis in 2007 that had 25 cautions which would make it 2nd most on the list, and the Busch race at Martinsville in 2006 only had 19.
I was 6 or 7 yrs old the last time the Bush grand Nationals raced at Caraway Speedway a few yrs before this Race but them motors wasn't much change because when they come to Caraway I remember like it was yesterday they sound like a Swarm of Killer Bees lol listen to them
Tommy Houston never ran in the Xfinity Series. He did however run in the Busch Grand National Series (BGN) (prior to that he ran the Winston Late Model Sportsman Series) and yes, that was his last win. I hate when Nascar tries to rebrand history.
@@brothersicko497 Racing at North Wilkes is unlike any other track. There should be races on TH-cam to verify this. Watch them! The track is on a hill, one straight goes up the other down. Drivers could get complacent and forget which turn needed more brake and overdrive the entry. I'm glad North Carolina is putting money back into their tracks. Rockingham is another great track that never should have been left off the circuit.
@@timothyharrison8953 I seen a video from a guy on his channel about them putting money back in to wilkesboro front stretch goes down back stretch goes up that was crazy lol
Though Schrader took Jr to a strip club in Topika and his wife made him drink beer when he was 16 so while traveling Sr. told Rick Hendrick who Schrader was driving for at the time "I'm gonna kill Schrader" 😂😂😂
It seems the younger drivers drive hard 100% of the time. If some hot shoe wants to burn up his tires? Let em' go. It seems the bar for respect keeps going lower over the years.
Man our state lost a piece of its soul when these short tracks got left behind!! North Carolina deserves to have the tracks back!
Alot of our tracks are just closing for some reason like Antioch Speedway just up and closed Hickory still runs just not enough people show up
@@brothersicko497 Antioch which is now horsepower park still runs
they are still around just not in the big 3 series
She's running buddy and tri country got a pretty good facelift. Short tracks are where it's at... For the last 15 years for me anyway.
I was there with my dad and papaw sitting off turn 4. Great memories that day. Met Darrell waltrip Ernie irvan and Mike Wallace.
i miss tnn always had good stuff on it
Wow just listen to those six cylinders! And tnn definitely takes me back to my childhood. Miss those days lol

This is track and race where Neil Bonnett says after a number of cautions that the "Pace Car has a good chance" of winning the race.
I know it is pretty off topic but does anybody know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Jace Salvador flixportal :)
@Landry Benjamin Thanks, signed up and it seems to work :) I appreciate it !
@Jace Salvador you are welcome =)

Old school tracks were so much better then now . Hickory I think has walls on inside and outside
I was in the stands that day..Oh my Bush cars short track memories!!!
LOL at Big E hanging the left sides on the dirt to get a lap back...
Forgot Busch cars ran V6's back then

How do you find stats like this?
That was real racing back then. Now I'd rather go to my local track and watch it.

Bummer on the TNN deal. They had some stuff

Fir sure, really good friends
Yes, listen to Dale Jr's podcast, he had Ken on.

Man the sound of those V6s was so Bad-Ass

Here’s another reason NASCAR is failing. Dropping the NC short tracks.
