Loving this series! I'm sure I won't get all the way through but I'm a new solo player and think ad&d would work great. Love how you highlight the quirkiness and genius of Gary Gygax. Yes, OSRIC is better organized, so probably better for DM reference. But you can't beat going back to the source. So inspiring!
To me the two depressions and the dead wood look connected. Makes me think that something fell from the sky and gouged two depressions out of the land, then it landed in the woods and polluted them. Could be a meteor, artefact from a God or maybe two dragons fighting and crashing to earth. The dust and soil kicked up by this darkened the sky for years, causing famine that collapsed the Empire. Could also explain why this part of the world is avoided.
You mention around the 30:00 mark about Orges possibly being near goblins. Check out p.106 of the DMG under humanoid racial table. Orges dislike goblins and goblins absolutley hate orges. Looks like an oppertunity for a war there! Might we see a JOW mini game war on this? Hehe
AD&D is a miniature wargame. I can guarantee we'll see one at some point. Great call on the Table o' Racisms. I will have to double check that when we start bumping into the green and fuglies.
You might have changed it since this video but commenting as I go. This is just brainstorming, I am enjoying seeing this in action. With the random encounter table it would it make more sense to keep the Demi Human entries as Demi Human then roll on the table each time it comes up? Sentient races travel after all. Same with Ogres having the chance for Ogre Magi, roll 10% for each Ogre encountered. I would also consider doing the same when encountering things like snakes.
I know I'm late to the party and hopefully you see this. I love giant wasps, I started with 1e in 2014 as a junior in high school and the second game my group ran the dm gave us all mounts and I chose to be a half orc fighter on a giant queen wasp named Anne. Another thing is modrons are my favorite dnd monsters as well. Last, if you get a chance on your box car table, add the looney tools from Dragon magazine. I'd love to see someone actually use the jolly green giant or Donald, daffy, or bugs. That would definitely make this that much more memorable if it's not too late
@@TheJoyofWargaming Odd? I say classic - like Gandalf and Bilbo. What better way for a budding and naive MU to "recover" lost magic items than to work with a professional burglar?
Moderately uninhabited “? Is that like mostly not pregnant? If “the most common thing you find on the plains is wolves”, then they are dead wolves. Died of starvation. Do the frogs get to build a town? :) PS. Wife asks why you would encounter hypocrites in the woods? I can’t stop laughing long enough to explain

The AD&D dungeons masters guide truly a work of genius! Even after having it for 40 years, it still holds surprises!😊
Herd Animal is an entry in the Monster Manual and can be anything from cows, to musk ox, to giraffe.
Bugbears on giant wasps herding Musk Ox

A Twin-Tailed Comet…
I understand that a Comet detonating far above the atmosphere is the latest theory to try & explain what happened to Sodom and the surrounding region!
Colour from out of space. Nice way to fit some Lovecraft in there.
@34:43 “The Wolflands.” That’s it. That’s the name of this region. It’s perfect.
I recently just tried this and I loved it! Created such an interesting story
Love you doing this content, its informative and very enjoyable!
I loved the first video yesterday. Looking forward to this one.
Really enjoyed watching both of these!!
The Wolflands!
Great stuff, very helpful.

Great video. Appreciate the hard work.

A their and m-u lol. This is a great serries
My AD&D DM book is on the way. Question: would it work if I use my Pathfinder players handbook or do I need to source the AD&D version?
Thief & Magic User? I'm guessing they'll be hiring some muscle to escort them around.
U no das rite!
Was thinking about doing the Beef brothers and maxing out Str. But maybe we should go Max Cha to make up for the odd pairing?

It’s Gary on the phone

Except we also rolled Herd Animals. Maybe the wolves feast on huge herds of giraffes?
@@TheJoyofWargaming Like I said, as long as the prey outnumber the predators. Lol
Dead wolves... died of wolf attack. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there.
@@dartmart9263 We're doing our part: PCs are prey. Save the wolves!
An ecology that sustains the populace you roll up is something I would consider implied, at least as far as 1e is concerned.
