Despite all the official honors bestowed on the men and women who served the country in the military, there are egregious shortcomings when it deals with veterans who have suffered because of their service. I visited a veteran at the VA Hospital and was shocked that he was situated in a crowded ward with 10 beds in it. There was just barely enough room for someone to walk between those beds. Basically people are expendable when it comes to the needs of the military-industrial war machine.

I was 14 when I saw this and watched it because I developed a celebrity crush on Edie Brickell from seeing the "Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" from seeing the video on regular rotation on MTV.
This movie changed my life. It forever sensitized me to the fake, care-free violence and propaganda we see regularly in Hollywood action & war films. This is the whole painful story of one soldier's experience before, during and after and not just a few moments of glossy battlefield glory.
Tom Cruise did an amazing job in this role and that's saying a lot from me because I can't stand the guy in anything else he's done.
