I've actually been looking at that exact Kramer for a number of years now but have yet to make the buy. Your demo has convinced me that it's really built for shredd! Great demo!
I love that you're doing more gear reviews now. It's a great direction to take the channel and really adds to the overall appeal. We already know you're a badass so it adds to the credibility of your reviews. Keep it up, you're doing a great job!
I just wanted to say thank you. I purchased a assault 220 from sound and it’s a great guitar. I appreciate it and this coming from a blind man who didn’t even realize they were even being made so thank you again.M
Aight, I'm totally a fender/squier strat guy, but when I first played my "used" heritage h-157 Les Paul, I fell in love. It's a 97, so it's made by the same guys who built all the Gibson's of the 70's-80s. The very wood is of the same stock of that played by roads and many other amazing musicians. It's the only Paul I own, but the sound man! It's thicker and richer than any strat or tele...you actually inspired me to get a floating Floyd Rose super strat last year and I gotta say, learning to divebomb n squeal has been an absolute blast!😊
Today was the day! I bought one used but like new! It’s really great guitar! It was you with your vídeo that made me search for it! And I’ve found it! Congratulations for your vídeos and your guitar playing! Cheers!
I have one of these Kramer Assault 220, got it used for under 300 and it’s been absolutely awesome. I really wish I could find specs for the neck, the board feels flatter than others and it feels awesome.
Oh my God that is so upsetting that they discontinued it. I was literally saying to myself for like the last year that when I get a six string I’m going to get one of these because I’ve been playing at seven string for the last 2 1/2 years now and I really want a six string in my collection that blows, but I’m so glad you did a video on this and I will definitely be looking for a used one.
these kramer floyds arent bad :) i had it on a pacer classic.. which is supposedly a budget line too.. it literally felt like one of them old Schaller floyds
I have this exact Kramer Assault. I put in a Duncan JB Trembucker in the bridge and a Duncan Jazz Trembucker in the neck. It sounds brutal and plays amazing.
Having the Same Guitar: Kramer Assault 220FR and to be honest.. I made wild Modifications to it. Installed Red EMG 81 + 89R in the Neck. Neck can be Split with the Volume Knob 😁 Added a Kill Switch instead of Tone Knob and made a Battery Compartment on the Back of the Electronic Cover. And Blocked the Floyd 😃 And since all of it. It had become one of my Favorite Guitars 😎 I had a Huge Grounding Issue with the Stock Pickups 🫣 that could not been fixed. And because its Common for Passives to Humm with Distortion, I decided to go Active and it was a Really worth decission. 😊
I just got it in white and I love it...thanks for mentioning them before ! The Floyd's holding up good and it stays in tune. I got mine from American music supply.
Great review kayla i glossed over this guitar as i thought it wouldn't be my thing as i thought the headstock was ugly but it actually looks kinda cool I'm saving my money to get one in white off thomann hoping to play with it stock then put a gotoh 1996 and a dime set up
Thank you for sharing this Kayla! This version of the Les Paul has it's own character that's really cool. It kinda reminds me of the Dean Cadillac where they add the Dean touches to make it unique. I fuckin love your playing too. Keep ripping!
Dont know if anyone here said this already. I just bought one last month from Kramer's site. Guessing not so dicontinued anymore. Love it. Floyd trem bar did fall off in less that 2 hours and I am NOT a big dive bomb guy. Easy to put back together but still a little dissapointing. Easy to upgrade that coupling on the trem.
I saw the black & red Assault in the background on one of your videos and was looking forward to this. Do you think this model really has a cult following? Maybe it will now :-) I bought an older 220fr in black and red like 9 years ago, and quickly followed up with the alpine white version. I love these guitars even though they have both required some unusual modifications... The neck dive was atrocious and the anchor screws for the springs weren't at the standard spacing when I went to put Tremol-nos on them. And good luck with that bridge as you put some wear on it; maybe they started using better metal on their licensed Floyds in recent years, but I've had to replace both of mine. Regardless, Kramer Assault 220FRs play, sound, and look great - I actually had never thought ANY LP body styles were very attractive until I saw this model. By the way, I agree about the lower frets being more comfortable than the jumbos. The ESP Eclipses look similar, but they have jumbo frets, not to mention 22 instead of 24 and a Les Paul scale length. Just like you said, the Assault is special for being a super-Strat disguised as a Les Paul :-)
I have this guitar and it plays awesome. Only bad thing is the clear coat over the binding is chipping off. Pickups sound great and the Floyd is awesome. You can dive bomb and it stays perfectly in tune.
My bought new 220 has three springs on the trem. The pickups are alnico 5 and are overwound so they are pretty hot. I love the neck and it plays smooth as silk. Yes the Floyd could be better. The guitar cable plugs in nice and tight. It’s a fairly heavy guitar. 24 frets and the scale is a fender scale. Fender scale length on an LP!! Love it
Love the burst and sad that it's being discontinued 😟 Yep, they really need to make you a signature guitar. You are beautiful and talented ✨️ Rock on 🤘🏼
You rock! You like those Kramer's. Oh and I used to own a custom studio lite LP with a floating Floyd. Yep a studio lite. Those things were filled with balsa wood. The guy who did it had his work cut out for him, but it worked surprisingly well
You will forever be named the Kramer Goddess. I had Kramers since 86 and I have NEVER see a LP copy. Thanks to you I will be buying one! GJ ... You seem to play better every time you make a vid! Keep up the great work Goddess!
That sucks that they discontinued it! I have played one before, and i would totally keep it. I would put a better trem in it, but otherwise it is a solid guitar. Cool review on guitars that get overlooked often!
I have the urge to mod. Since you want less bass on the EQ, Pickups, pots, and caps come to mind. Replacing the pots with 1meg units would work. I wouldn't recommend a treble bleed for the circuit after doing so. A higher grade of cap for the tone knob would be in order as well. 0.047 or higher would be useful. Pickups immediately bring me to Dimarzio. I always found them shrill, but I've learned more about them in recent years. The Nita Strauss set (Pandemonium Pickups I believe) comes to mind, but you haven't lived until you play an Alnico VIII pickup. The Satchur8/Air Norton set might go well with that Kramer. Bareknuckle Ragnorocks or Silos (I'm hesitant to add the Silo set only because Rabea asks very different things from this pickup than you do.) On the Seymour Duncan side, it would be easy to call out for the Dimebag Darrell set, but I can't recommend them from my personal experience. Might as well go straight to JBE instead. However the Pegasus/Sentient set is worth a look, but I think you'd prefer the Nazgul/Sentient set. What are your thoughts? Wonderful playing, I might add. You make it look easy. If Kramer doesn't put you on retainer soon, they are missing out.
I have that guitar as well, upgraded to a Gotoh trem only cause had one laying around and used the Kramer trem an another V i restored, great guitar for the price..great vids, cheers from Canada..Eh.
the floyd rose on my ec-1000 is so solid, and the style itself makes it soo much more playable and easier on my hands than a regular leslie(but its also an 1100 guitar as well to be fair, and does play like one lol)
I have an Assault, and it's awesome. I let my buddy try it, and he ordered one the same night. I put Dunlop Rev. Willy's Mexican Lottery 8's on it (Billy Gibbons signature strings), and it screams.
I loved this video I had traded for the assault white one and when I saw the black one I wanted one so bad I had never played a Kramer until I got the white one and I was blown away how well it played and now as of yesterday zzounds had the black one well guess what ? yup I now have the black one rock on girl
just picked up a firefly LP ( with floyd type bridge) all matt black with body contours and locking tuners (200.00) - never been an LP lover due to weight mostly but wanted one for my collection - actually love the guitar am having the bridge changed now with a Gotoh floyd and new pups - these Kramers are really cool though
Kayla is 1,000% right. I've always liked the Les Paul look. When I was younger. I actually thought I would be able to fit one with a floyd rose when I got older and could afford it. That was before I learned that their headstocks are known for breaking off. Even without the help of a floyd rose. The Kramer Assault plus that I found in mint condition for $350 on ebay, is my baby. Dark red burst body finish. All black 24 fret ebony neck. Push pull tone pots for single coil tones and an amazing floyd rose that holds it's tune like a mo-frackin boss! I love my Kramer. My first.... My last.... My everything!
Kramer Assault is a great guitar! I've had Les Paul's and could never get into them. But the Assault has a great ebony fretboard and the whammy is insane. You can do some Gary Holt bar bends!
@@thisguy2973what makes Jimmy Wallace a specialty shop? They have $200 guitars all the way up to holy grail guitars. I also recommend The Tone Shop in Addison.
Right with ya on the frets. I set up weird anyway cuz i typically use 11s... On 10s now cuz i am rusty but probably once i use the last set i have ill step back up.... And even though i started doing it to down tune i rarely ever do these days so there's that lol
It's scary how much you sound like Dime at times, please do a tribute video of you wearing camo shorts sponsoring a red beard saying "Getcha Pull!" while nailing his solos for a giggle lol 🤟👍
I had the more expensive orange model the Assault Plus. The monster you have is dirt cheap. The scale length is 25.5 so shredder scale length and neck volume knob is closet to bridge to facilitate volume swells. 24 frets.
I'm not a fan of les Pauls either. The only thing I don't like about that black kramer though is the strap position near the neck. It makes for a very neck heavy guitar. If you pinned it on to the back of the heel instead it'd lift the weight of the neck better when playing standing up. I need a high headstock classical style position to play a guitar comfortably. Same for the 2nd kramer. Also, I prefer the toggle position between the volume and tone knobs on the first one.
I hear you, and you're right - at least on the two Assault 220s that I own, which are older, they are very neck heavy. The interesting thing is that my white one, which seems to be newer, is heavier overall than my older black one (it's my heaviest guitar), and neck-dives less, like they were trying to address the problem. However, I still needed to make a 2 1/2 inch strap button extender bar to make them acceptable. This puts the strap mounting point between the 14th and 15th fret. I just drilled out the existing strap button screw hole deeper to accept a long, beefy screw, and compressed a few coupling nuts between some washers and painted it black.
If you are buying used There are a lot of them with repaired necks. That being said mine has had a repair and it's still great. Wish all my axes had necks like this.
It’s cute the way you love to jam - thanks for your passionate playing I will definitely jam out to some black label just because of you. Also I play the 220 too it’s my main guitar I don’t have a lot of money so my other electric guitar is simply a peavey predator and it’s so cheap I just make sure it plays and I leave it in a corner. If I ever get an expensive electric the only thing I can think of is active pickups. Other than that I love to play my 220 and I love to play lead if I am playing electric.
Your video totally reflects your character. Not the usual youtube cookie cutter BS. I do have one request. Instead of titling cover videos "What if Dimebag played_____?" I think it might be time to start titling them "What if Kayla played_____?" . Dime has been fully integrated into your soul. And your very existence reflects that. Its YOUR TIME Kayla. Just my opinion. Keep ripping it up, Dood✌🏼
I had a student at my music store special order the 220 a number of years back, and after waiting for over a year for it to ship, he ended up cancelling the order (I'm surprised he waited that long.) I've always wanted to try one out, but now it looks like unless I find one used like you did, I'll need to find another Les Floyd to noodle with.
I got a 2014 Assault 220, the licensed Floyd Rose is so so... It loses tuning when pushing back the FR arm, I'm looking forward to upgrading the FR cause I got the guitar for less than $300 with case, and threw in a couple of Dimebag signature pickups, it's a nice base for upgrades Oh and it has noticeable neck dive
I own one of those black and red 220s as well… It’s a great guitar, and I prefer that generation of assault, because of the 3 x 3 headstock… The Assault Pluses of that generation (mine is trans red bloodburst with an ebony fretboard) are great too with original Floyd Roses and Seymour Duncan Alternative 8 humbucker in the bridge, which actually has a neodymium magnet in it, hotter than hell! The main difference is these are 25.5 scale, whereas all the traditional LP shapes (including ESP/LTD) are 24.75 scale.
Additionally, I recorded 5 of the 6 rhythm tracks on my band’s latest EP with my Assault 220, modified with a big brass trem block and Dragonfire rails pickups (dropped C)…the other rhythm track is with my Assault Plus (standard D)…
I definitely prefer. A string through body, a hipshot a tone pro. Bridge anything that is not a tremolo I like having lots of sustain. I like my strings to stay in tune. I also like my note to stay when I've been my string. I don't like moving parts and only need one knob. Actually, it's funny most. Your professional guitar players record with hard stoppers or string through bodies. They don't use a wannabar in the studio. Most of the time and you'll be surprised to see a lot of them. Don't even use them on stage when they want to be consistent with their playing in their tone in their tuning.
I always go straight back to the used section and not just due to price. You never know how a guitar is gonna turn out until you play it for awhile and break it in. The only Fender that caught my eye when i got my last guitar was the Jim Root Telecaster, and it played way different than it looked and I hated it. AND it was 2 grand! You can get an amazing guitar for less than 500 bucks, and i dont know why more people dont

@@TheAlicaNetwork interesting solution
The 220 is a ripper. My buddy has one. It's so badass. And me being a telecaster/ les Paul kinda dude, I think it's too sick!
P.s. my brother calls you "Potty mouth Kayla." Keep being YOU😁
At this point Kramer should make you a signature guitar and by God if they do get them to remake your black one.
I had a student at my music store special order the 220 a number of years back, and after waiting for over a year for it to ship, he ended up cancelling the order (I'm surprised he waited that long.) I've always wanted to try one out, but now it looks like unless I find one used like you did, I'll need to find another Les Floyd to noodle with.
who was ur supplier?
I was running a Music & Arts, which is Guitar Center, so probably Kramer/Gibson directly .
@@BradTheProducer poor guy. M&A is the last place i would buy a guitar at lol
Gibson was a trainwreck just a few years back. I waited about 5 years for the Nite-V Plus to come back in stock.
I got a 2014 Assault 220, the licensed Floyd Rose is so so... It loses tuning when pushing back the FR arm, I'm looking forward to upgrading the FR cause I got the guitar for less than $300 with case, and threw in a couple of Dimebag signature pickups, it's a nice base for upgrades
Oh and it has noticeable neck dive
check ur posts, replace em if theyre worn. common issue.
@@KaylaKent I'll try that.... The previous owner didn't play it much tho. The guitar is basically new... I'm really happy with it.
On the website they are oth listed as having medium jumbo frets
The force is strong in this one.
i have always wanted one of the black with red assaults more so because i cant afford a ESP Gary holt sig
Great video. I hate the weight of a Gibson Les Paul. I do have a Black and Red 220 and along with my Schecter it has become my workhorse.
Love it ! Nice playing and video \m/ \m/
The assault plus is so pretty 😍
Guitar fetish also has a LP w/ a floyd rose bridge. Thier brand Xaviere. When they do the good stacking coupon codes it’s under 300 USD after shipping
What guitar would you choose if Kramer built you a signature guitar? Awesome video, made me want to buy one!🤘
id make them recreate my jk8000 lol
@@KaylaKent If they did I'd probably buy it
@@KaylaKent I would love if they did this lol that guitar is sweet
I think I just fell in love
👌👌
You Rock Sis... good point about these axes...subscribed!
If it didn't have a pointy horn I'd agree with you. I did a spit take when you said, "dowl rod for a neck" though.
That 24th fret looks like a Reebok logo on the 220. If it came with purple instead of red, I'd be looking at one.
the plus comes in a purple, shrug.
I had the chance to get the assault plus for 550 at a local guitar store. I wish I had bought it
