Great job blokes. Rudimentary front end alignment is much better than none, just keep an eye on wear pattern on the way home and get it done proper when you get a chance. Safe travels!!
Nicely done, sir. That was literally a dead Holden. Can't wait to see what you do with her, please don't make us wait a week for the Nullarbor footage, it's what we've all been waiting for and it's Chrisso, brother! 🎄
What absolutely inspiring buid Not only the state the torana was in but the whole reason behind it , I can see as a person how you have progressed, and the life long friends you made on the way Cheers Dave Grumpy
I’ve seen you make cars out of bigger piles of rust than that, but driving across country is a massive effort, the best of luck mate, watch out for those big reds and road trains, it’s a trip that’s definitely on my bucket list.
Hi Paul, happy to see the nugget finally with all glass in place. Shame with the front screen rubber fitment and that was a new replacement item..? Mate apart from that she looks neat, all the hard work is paying off. Also all the best on the trip back to Sydney will definitely be looking forward on how it all goes. Cheers mate, till next video.
Great build love the Torana! This car reminds me of the tv programme The Outsiders from 1976. I saw the repeats in the 80's in the U.K. when I was a kid
Ah this trip should be wicked! My first car on my P’s was an LC torana of the same poo gold colour with a 186 and three speed slush box. That was swapped to a four on the floor quick-smart! Enjoy the drive, I hope you have a Bluetooth speaker and a good play list to keep you entertained! There’s only so much engine and road noise you can listen to I reckon. Well done on the resurrection resto! I love how it’s rough looking but essentially new everywhere else!
Well done old mate. Have a safe drive home and if you can let the other boys know your location and they can give us some updates of your progress across the country. 👍👍
Well done good sir…. My shirt arrived yesterday and I love it. Little thank you note was an unexpected thoughtful touch that was key to my visit to the doghouse stay a little shorter (currently still in the shit) 😂 Cheers Paul you legend 👍 Safe travels Cobba 🍻🍻🍻🇦🇺
When you get home, buy 2 pieces of 1" rhs a meter and a half long and 2 bessa blocks. Sit the car on flat concrete, hockey strap one piece of the rhs at bessa block height to each front wheel so the rhs is even with the back of the tyre and put a bessa block under the front of the rhs (sideways with the holes horizontal). Adjust so the rhs is level both sides and eyeball where the pieces of rhs are pointing. With steering wheel straight, measure across the front of the tyres from the outside edges of the rhs, then measure across at the front of the rhs on the bessa block. From this setup, you want the measurement just before the tyres and at the end of the rhs the same with both rhs pointing straight ahead ... if you want to toe in, adjust so the measurement at the front end of the rhs is a couple of mm less than just in front of the tyres, if you want toe out, make the measurement of the front of the rhs a couple of mm wider. If the car is low and you cant get the rhs at bessa block height, use bricks instead. You just need to know if your car needs toe in, toe out or neutral. Once you get the hang of it, it is easy and a good wheel alignment (toe, not caster and trail or camber) Use a big set square and ruler for camber. Have a safe trip home. cheers
That golf course is 1365km long mate.. you'll have a good laugh :) one hole with a runway across it and watch for the snakes sighted on fairway signs.. I don't play golf but had one of the best 4 days of golf in my life..
Safe journeys🤙, this nugget reminds me of the first car I ever owned. An lj with just about as much rust. I'd probably be dumb enough to try and buy it off you lol😅
Plenty of times I put an oldy up on the aligner ramp, mounted the heads and it was all for looks. Break out the tape measure and string. Yes Sir, it's all computer aligned. I was spewing the day the company replaced my old FMC 5000 with a newfangled computer thing.
I hear ya, I’ll never forget the old thing we used back when I was an apprentice.. then the next place I worked for that did wheel alignments had to have attachments on all 4 wheels connected by strings and everything was connected to a monitor. Was super accurate once it was all set up but I guess as cars change, so does the stuff to service them
Sensational effort bro loved watching your episodes on this! Awesome line up of stickers on the back too! happy to help. Pity I couldn't come visit but hopefully see you at summernats! cheers 🤙
Love this build. Little gem. I’m glad you stuck with it. What a team guys. Come together and did your bit. Good old Australian mate ship. Now the journey begins. Take plenty of water bro 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺👌
Looks great Paul. I did the same trick on my HG Holden to fix my wheel alignment problem it worked a treat. Good luck on your trip home. Have a great day. Choppersrule1
I think that 5 mm forward on the LHS compensates for the camber on our roads. Apparently LHD cars overseas are the opposite for obvious reasons. Good luck mate, I’ve done that trip in a 1948 double decker bus, a 1958 Bedford 4x4 truck, a Fiat 850, an XY Fairmont but best of all in a horse float with the horses behind a Mercedes 1418 prime mover, most of these were done back when there was 1000K’s of corrugated dirt road. I reckon on today’s roads and all the work you’ve put into the Torana you’ll be all good.
How amazing!!! I did contact some media organisations and and told them about you but NADA it seems... Astonishing and amazing, I can't believe it is actually happening! Look forward to hear how your drive has gone so far!!
Hi Bud, Well done, a hell of a lot of stress/hours in getting the car to this, the most positive achievement is that it help dealing with the demons buddy, I'm impressed , could be more happy with your accomplishment ..Question; do you have to get a road worthy over there before the trip, Hope you can take video of the trip, On behalf of the viewers pat yourself on your back Regards
Bro why didn't you give me a call I have the golden bible memba......LC work shop manual pages 3-12 Front suspension alignment all the way to 3-16 with caster, camber steering axis alignment, toe-in....all the good stuff. You got there though and that's what counts bro, well done!
take it easy bloke on the way home those old red motors will crack a skirt of pistons for no reason at all ....or chuck a rod thru the side of block or destroy timing gears or shoot harmonic balancer off don't rev it to hard ...... 0r go over 100kms a hour ...that was my experience those engines over 40 years had plenty blow for no reason ....that was when decided to change to ford back then never been left stranded since then or broken down ...or no blown Engines
As an aligner of over 20yrs ..that fully was a moron and ya want him working on ya car ..ur castor slightly more on left ..measure inside of ur rims at 9 and three o'clock..a very minor outwards toe for response of steering
made me laugh when yoou said the mechanic said no to the wheel alignment made me remember when i took the fj to bob jane guy looked at it come back out said i have no idea how that front end works he'd never done a car with king pins lol totally useless mecs theses days most cant even do a carby

So is the registration plate a official one to make it road legal
Nooo it’s just a set of novelty plates
So can you drive it back then using a dealer plate / trade plate .
Just curious how your system is different to ours in the uk
Unregistered vehicle permit
@@oldskoolonly that's handy I'm assuming that you have to have one for each vehicle and it only lasts a short time
Yep exactly
Is that balers twine? Good stuff, love it.
Hmmmm not sure about that, definitely used a stack of cable ties though. Cheers mate
Dare I ask where you got that windscreen rubber from. 😱😱
They’re working with me so I’ll keep that under wraps for now
@ Fair enough good to hear 👍👍
Bon Voyage mate 👍👍
Cheers
100% of shit wheel liner as a qualified wheel liner I would’ve got it done using Gemini or something similar to get it close
Yeah I hear ya.. anyhow it’s all sorted now
Hi Bud, Well done, a hell of a lot of stress/hours in getting the car to this, the most positive achievement is that it help dealing with the demons buddy, I'm impressed , could be more happy with your accomplishment ..Question; do you have to get a road worthy over there before the trip, Hope you can take video of the trip, On behalf of the viewers pat yourself on your back

Cheers mate, much appreciated. It’d pass any roadworthy but just need an unregistered vehicles permit
How’s the trip going mate
Not without its dramas but can’t give too much away 😉
Toe in 1 mm camber straight up and down carster 5mm
What did yr RWC guy think about the Nugget? Safe travels
Didn’t use one
How does rego and insurance work with this going across States? I had to jump through hoops just to get a SI rego.
Just got a permit bro.. 🤷🏻♂️
Are you getting rego in Western Australia
No
Awesome 🎉🎉🎉
Cheers 🍻
So are you just driving it unlicensed?
