Lyrics:
That's what I'm after tell me what I'm after
(I'm after the gold then after that the platinum)
Once again it's the real ill microphone enhancer
Smoking mc's till I die from lung cancer
The mace is in my hand but I'm not afraid to shoot ya
Nobody can see me high in da future
So you know that no one can ever hurt me
Because I'm ill
(like what)
Like herpes
And I really don't give a damn who you are
Mr. Funky man all hail I'm da funkular
Now in 1985 when the funk started to rock
Tryin to do the human beatbox like
(BOOM HAH HAH BOOM BOOM HAH HAH)
All up in da place you can spit in yo face
Then when da beatbox start play
That's when I started rocking mic's
Make you wack mc's wanna fight
Because they always try to battle me to see who is da best
So you know I have to roll on the quest
For what I'm after
[Chorus]
(I'm after the gold then after that the platinum)
Hip hop and props that's what we're after
(I'm after the gold then after that the platinum)
Stacks of those plaques that's what we're after
If it's hip hop that makes yo knees knock
Turn us up box
I know you peep da sound it's the lords on the block
It's da list now this is how I live now
Making people get down to my funky sound
Ever since I heard the sound I wanted to be down
Here's my demo tape won't you please pass it down
So I can get paid and have things like I said
A car, a yacht, a house with a maid
But wow! slow down the party ain't that easy
Oh my god I think I let that video deceive me
No matter as long as the rhymes are the phatter
I bet yo billboard has me top of da ladder
Publishing like loving, I learned that from my cousin
Write your own tunes and you'll see thousands by the dozens
And after all that, if you gave back
All I want to see is da golden platinum plaque
[Chorus]
Now it's 1995
And I finally got my foot in da door
Got props I want more
Cause I'm definitely not where I used to be
But I'm nowhere near where I wanna be
I wanna be able to go out and buy a golf range
And still walk away with change
Until then there's no time to be wasting
So I gotta keep on chasing
Well!!! what I'm after that's simple
Come on and peep the mental
This ghetto born kid blowin up on instrumentals
What's the matter oh I know you can't peep my pattern
My style is designed to shed light like a lantern
Click click click now the light's directly on yo ear
If you peep da sound then run go tell a peer
What happened did you get locked by my rappin
You had to cause gold and the plat is what I'm after
[Chorus]

real talk. big missed opportunity
What i love about hip hop from these times is that sample from jazz tracks and that neo soul sound 👌
Exactly sadly they don't sample music from funk/jazz and soul these days strictly trap with generic production most of the time.
Hear hear. Plus the harmonies they make between the samples and the bass. It's so good!
Yes!!! You don't hear that vintage jazz sampling and drum and bass anymore.
@@emilysimek7302 ik man that's why I cannot bare listening to modern music as a whole not because of the lyrics but because of the production has become so digitalized and artificial sounded that it doesn't feel or sounds authentic to my ears.
@@abrahampalmer8761 Yes true...lately you can hear more older hip-hop tracks being sampled and bass boosted etc...btw is that Jeff Mills on your pic? Can't see properly...so small lool

Big Time same with Naughty by Nature
@@abrahampalmer8761 lmao Naughty by Nature wasn't really underrated they made some of the most respected hip hop songs of the 90s
I think Camp lo is the most underrated
I dont think LoTU are underrated. Literally everyone I knew back then was rocking them lads.
I misses these times. Young, reckless, little responsibility. Thank god I am still alive.

@James P You're not the only 1
Directly into the ASHTRAY
That’s the line that stuck with me through out the whole thing. I’m like dam.. did he just say-
Bruuuhhhhh
Yo that was fire!
New Jersey artists looked up to Redman like a God back in those days. A young Jersey group paying homage to Redman on the hook and getting him in the video was a brilliant stamp of approval.
1994 was a great year for hip hop
The 1990's in general was a great decade for hip hop
marxman 300 no doubt nut 1996 has better albums but the thing was that that year was foremost pac and biggie and little bit of snoop dogg or AZ that's y'all can't see that
franklin mcgrady tejeda 96 had better albums.no way
sure was
The best songs is from 1993 because of nibton x_ray was power that year
Miss that jazzy smoothness of 90s Rap

BOOM BAP ERA STAND UP!!!!!!
This kind of hip-hop is timeless!! Long live old school music ✌❤
No this is middle school
This is Real hip hop!!!
No mumble rap. Real, hip hop with real rhymes.
It pains me that groups like these never got the success they deserved
27 years since that track dropped and people are still excited about it. They might not have gotten rich and famous, but they made music history and that's really something to be proud of.
Lords of the Underground are still touring the world performing their catalog in 2023. Not rich and famous, but they are very successful.
Yooooo what a timeless classic
It's a shame Redman didn't have a verse, what a beat man!!
I mean it's his voice in the chorus so he just popped by for a cameo hehe
@@lsamoa They sampled his voice from one of the tracks from his Dare Is a dark side album. My favorite album by Redman btw. So it's not technically original. A verse by Red would've make this song even more perfect.
@@willgamer0849 yes we all know that

Back when there used to be real hip hop and you could understand what artists were saying. Back when you could identify different artists, and no one sounded the same. I miss the 90s sooooooo much.
Me too. Fall 94. Thankfull to have witnessed and grown up In an era that will never be equalled.
Yo ain't it the truth!😟😦😔
You look like my cousin Christine Edouard she died.
I’m 13 and this is way better than modern day rap
yeah nahh; they sounded same too Das EFX, Lords of the Underground, Showbiz & AG, Artifacts, Bush Babees, Luniz and so on.
This joint right here is fire, l’m just a teenager but l’m blessing my ears with some real
Hiphop most of these teens listen to people who don’t even speak right 😂
Yeah ur slow, new shits still fire. They just aren't focused on the vocals, just the overall sound
it's not about listening to "real hip hop." take ur time in the underground, ur on the right track to find some ill sounds im sure of it

Add a hook of Redman reciting one of the lines from the greatest Hip Hop recording ever made "Can't wait" and you have a instant classic.

Real Hip Hop, I miss those days
More than 15 years I’m listening this part of art !!! Still the greatest of the underground
Listening to this track automatically brings me instant happiness ❤
This is vintage hip hop and when LOTUG was at their peak. Remember waking up to this during spring break in NYC on Hot 97 every morning.
LOD is an underrated group! They are one of hip-hop's finest.
ONE of the greatest hip-hop hooks of ALL-TIME.
They didn’t cuss, didn’t rap about drugs. And 95 was a big guns and drugs era. These guys were in their own bags. Jersey shit.
Redman in the cut 😈
Real Hip-Hop!!
90’s will always have the best hip hop
Legendary!
A lot of heart in this song.
Wish I can time travel back to this time.
Me too all the time
I'm 46 and I was around during thoss times. No internet, no TH-cam, Pandora or Spotify so if you wanted an individual song you had to buy the cd or cassette, no smart phones just cellular phones with the pull out antenna. East coast and West coast rap were at their peak, dirty south was quickly gaining popularity, we had booty music (Miami bass) which was basically Trap music, and socially conscious rap was given much more respect. No skinny jeans but sagging was popular unfortunately, the afro was making a comeback after nearly 15 years, and gold jewelry was the standard not ice or platinum. There was never any talk of conspiracy theories (Illuminati, Boule, Masons, blood sacrifices, etc), we raised just as much hell when the justice system failed us and we still had Tupac and Biggie.

Saw them in 2006 or 07 in Switzerland. Still the best concert I attended!
Sweat was dripping from the ceiling people where partying so hard and the whole crowd was bouncing around like crazy.
You didn't even had to move to get lifted up by people jumping around and land 1m (3.3ft) to your left.

Was born in 92 and always loved hip hop/rap, discovered LOTUG about 8 years ago buying a lot of random hip hop CDs which had their Resurrection album, was the first one out of the lot that I listened to, their name was highly intriguing! Love discovering old gems, gems that most would've never heard even back in the golden days
Cannot get over how hard this song slaps. Like the perfect Platonic form of mid-90s hip hop. Perfect track!
Woulda been sweet if Redman actually had a verse on it lol
Im after the gold and after that the platinum!!!! #RedmanSample
Why they want that?! I thought they were the Lords of the UNDERGROUND?
Maybe in some UNDERGROUND bussiness?
After 26 years I hope they found it. :D
