Everything wrong with my brand new 'Replacement' Citroen Ami!

  • let's look at the visible faults of my replacement Citroen Ami. Take a seat!
Also should mention when pressing hazard warning switch without key the ignition lights would also appear this did not happen on last Ami.
You maybe also see poor alignment of box section and gaps were you may expect to see welding.

Yeah I wouldn’t buy it if they paid me to buy it! I’ve read enough issues here, Mon Ami and Doug’s shed. It’s just bad from the welding, lack of wax treatment, auxiliary battery position in winter, no wheel arches - grit getting into locks. Just buggerall testing done. Just exploit a loophole in the market, see how sales go - or don’t- and leave it at that

I think your love affair is over.
You bought a quadracycle but thought you bought a car.
It's just a plastic cover over a bike frame and you call it a car and that's where your expectations are not met.
In France these are for children over 14 and not seen as a car.

Stellantis is also marketing this car badged as an Opel and it will shortly be launched as a Fiat as well. I’m sure any future Opel or Fiat customers will be equally unhappy with the build quality. A more serious issue is the safety of these quadricycles. They may be ok in 20mph/30kph urban centres but anywhere else you’re mixing with fast vans, etc. in a flimsy structure with no airbags, no crash protection and poor handling ( one group of testers nearly overturned one going round a tight corner)

    • @anthonytube
      @anthonytube  ปีที่แล้ว +5

You are right! Opel already in Germany etc and Fiat to follow. Yes I agree they built them so cheap with zero effort to exceed any quadricycle standards. The handling fine honestly it's really fine. You have to upset the centre of gravity or really try hard as that kid did in Monaco. It charmed me with the ethos and design but now falling out of love with it. On top of poor quality the service is slow and really frustrating! Best regards Anthony :-)

safety is not purpose of this vehicle . How can you even mention that its like blaming designer for small car not being family car as vans are ... its still better as two wheel scoter ... this is really bad argument bro. FOr me good argument is that for price of this project you can buy realy good condition nissan leaf or peugeot /citroen/mitsubishi ion. For this price they definately making huge returns . For making such a thing they should ask for atleast half of the price....

Their price was at least about right. I hate when today carmakers wanted to make a budget car but while the quality of the car always very low, price is still way higher than it should be. This is more expensive than my new Suzuki Baleno was 3 years ago and that is a Golf sized car.

  • @gymbeats6050

Sorry to hear about your troubles. We got ours a few months ago. When ordered, it was meant to be £6k. The bump-up to £8k upon launch was disappointing. Still went ahead but, to be clear, this is not an £8k vehicle!!! It's a £4k piece of kit in my opinion.
We don't have the quality issues you have but I have had nightmares on uphills in cold weather. I bought the car accepting the 28mph top speed. But when battery is cold in winter.... the power only lets me get up to 15-20mph on steeper inclines. Verging on dangerously slow. For me, this is the greatest flaw...amongst the niggles this kind of car comes with.
For some reason - still love it. Can't explain why.

We are exactly the same... I love mine old Ami! It's like family but in Jan it was hell! Low power beep (I also made video) all the time and 15 MPH.... Then it would just steam up... I actually cancelled my 1st one when I saw the £2k price increase but then saw it again in Milan and thought what the hell. Quality of the replacement was so bad so fingers crossed I can get a better one otherwise I'll seal mine up myself and keep it! We just need summer to keep going for longer! Best wishes Ant

    • @anthonytube

Good that you can get the old one back, would be good to compare differences, perhaps the old one was not so bad afterall? I guess the cars on the production line are mostly assembled by humans, it is inevitable that there are variations in build quality between cars, maybe Citroen should consider selling these as kits for home assembly and then time can be taken to get everything properly aligned & fitted.
That welding is dreadful, I reckon I could do better than that! I suppose Morocco is not noted for its car building industry, so they are having to learn new skills, probably paying the labour peanuts & you know what they say about that!
The design & concept is brilliant, just the execution that is poor, good luck with getting your old car back.

It's really surprising that Citroen did not put some more effort into preparing the replacement.
Many years ago I had problems with a computer I bought that went back to the shop a couple of times, then seeing as it was a problem the shop gave me the manufacture's contact details and I got a specially tested one directly from them. I wanted a good version rather than a refund at the time and that replacement worked without problems.

Google finds: "As of March 2023, the Citroën Ami has not been crash tested by Euro NCAP. The Ami is a quadricycle, not a car, and therefore it does not have to meet the increasingly rigorous safety standards that new cars have to pass. Designed for inner-city commuting only, this vehicle does not come with airbags or any safety assistance tech. The manufacturer markets the car as a safer mode of transport when compared to e-bikes and e-scooters, rather than comparing it to larger city cars."

Never understood this vehicle. It's small and designed to drive around the city and easy to park. I had an old petrol powered ford Ka, which could do all that and it was better built, could drive over 50mph, had a stereo, comfy seats and had crumple zones. I don't mean to sound disrespectful to you, I just think the ami, it's a bit of a novelty, there are much more practical ways of getting around for short distances.
