I guess the look depends on how manufactured you want it to look. Just talking about the cave opening. I would probably add some cross beams between the pillars, having them one block lower than the ceiling so they look like they're supporting something. But, then, it all depends on the why, if you want them to look functional or just for aesthetics. Maybe, with wall facings the stairs, put in a glow stone in the middle to replace the torches?
