I'm waiting for them to NOT fix them and THEN I will judge. "Obi-Wan fan JUDGES Obi-Wan series!!" :D

Annoyingly i agree with you about the artificial and it upsets me the Marvel Universe is the same and since covid have been very lacklustre, i will still however still watch them, i just have to manage expectations.

At least the MCU was designed for this, unlike Star Wars. I think Marvel has it's own place in culture and I can't really hate it for that reason, it's a roller coaster ride, and you know that when you buy the ticket.

That was a great watch man, really good analysis. Great job! I'm also wondering what will happen and if things will get more interesting.
PS: The Boys is out now, I was wondering if you would make any videos of the series?

I just started The Boys, not knowing there is a new season coming out. I was a bit hot and cold about Season 1, but I am giving Season 2 a chance, and it already looks a bit better by Season 2. If I find anything interesting to say, I will make a vid :)
Thank you for the comment and the kind words, I appreciate it!

Fantastic analysis - really great stuff.
I'm semi-sold on the show so far, I think I'll need to wait until the final episode to produce a proper verdict. But as it stands - things have definitely been quite rocky but I still have alot of hope for the remaining episodes 🤞

As ususal, I come off more negative than I mean to be - in truth, I always enjoy Star Wars in my life, unless it's the Sequel Trilogy lol
Thank you for the kind words boss

@@GlanceValue Well truthfully it does deserve its criticisms so I wouldn't worry about coming across as overly negative.
Like you, I've also been a life long star wars fan, but as the saying goes "No one hates Star Wars as much as Star Wars fans" 😅
I've found that disney are pretty hit or miss with Star Wars in recent years. I have enjoyed certain installments like Mando, and the final clone wars season - and I'm also generally interested with experimental stuff they've released like Star Wars Visions.. But it doesn't excuse the fact that the sequel trilogy unfortunately exists and that's left a bitter taste in my mouth for any upcoming theatrical Star Wars release..
Maybe that's just me though, do you think they should stick to shows for now? Or would you like to see another Star Wars movie on the big screen? 🤔

@@SolaceCinema I think Disney needs to adjust their approach, and stop going all control freaky on SW, and from that point on, it doesn't matter what they make, series or feature lenght.
It's a difficult question, because I realize how business works, but I'd argue that SW can carry the weight of unorthodox business decisions, as it is an indestructible IP. Disney has the resources, they could put out high quality SW content every year, but they want to be too PG all the damn time, and it ruins it, I don't think being family friendly should have ever been a focus.
At this point I'd almost be satisfied with an MCU-like approach, as much as I dislike that business model, because at least it has vision behind it, and how on earth can SW be actually more tame than Marvel, what world are we living in? :D
There's so much darkness in it, characters literally say "darkness" and "dark side" every two seconds, and they have space nazis.
Like I've read SW novels where Vader just went and exterminated an entire village because he felt there were rebels there or something.
Yea as you said about the fans being the most critical... :D
But yea, just hire Villeneuve to direct and LET him work as far as I'm concerned lol
And take lessons from Rogue One and Jedi: Fallen Order on Vader

Totally agree, Star Wars capable of taking a near infinite amount of hits, but fans will still be crawling back to the latest installments.
With that knowledge in mind, they really should consider giving us worthwhile narratives rather than safe bets because they have a tendency to either be incredibly mediocre or just not memorable in the slightest (Book of Boba Fett as an example).
I truly think the best way to shake things up and freshen the horizons is to scrap the skywalker timeline and go back to the old republic. Fans are pulling up to Star Wars movies or MCU propreties not actually looking for engaging narratives anymore but rather banking on what new hero or mystery character will make a cameo appearance. By going to an era like the old republic where every character is completely free from the skywalker shackles, it could be a really interesting leap into the deeper sections of the Star Wars lore - incoporating some legends material too.
I still want them to have side stories from the main timeline where the skywalkers are a thing, but I really would like to see them go off on tangents and explore concepts we've never seen before..
But instead Disney are putting out things like "A Droid's Story" and "Rangers of the new republic" - things literally nobody asked for lol.
But yes totally agree, the one thing Disney have done pretty well is actually make Vader scary.. That rogue one hallway scene and the Vader escape scene from Fallen Order is genuinely terrifying - gives me chills each time I revisit it.

@@GlanceValue Forgot to mention but totally agree with the Villeneuve pick. I heard Waititi is also making a Star Wars film.. I really do enjoy his style of movies but not sure how applicable it could be for the Star Wars universe? Judging from his highly comedic style, I'm really not sure if that new film will possess alot of darker tones that we're all wishing for.. But only time will tell.

I completely agree with everything you said, expecially about the things they should focus on. Although I didn't really like Reva's acting, but maybe it's more a matter of the way she's written and not the way the actress delivers the lines.
Also, as a friend of mine pointed out, the way in which Obi-Wan runs away as soon as he sees Darth Vader is the way I run away from bosses in videogames when I don't want to face them yet. It kinda ruined the moment.

    • @GlanceValue
      @GlanceValue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

that's really funny yea, now that you mention it
and yea Reva is not written very well, but it might also be a directing issue, now that I think about it, there are some weird performances even for the well written characters, so I'm not sure if it's the actress
thank you for leaving a comment, I appreciate it a lot! :)

disney has a big problem with the writers room. There's a lot of fine good ideas but they never really go all the way, and it definitely feels artificial. I don't think they even have real showrunners that can make big decisions unilaterally. And they also have a tendency to do really dumb lazy writing- like obi wan killing 5 stormtroopers with a blaster, still has his lightsaber, but the second he sees 3 more stormtroopers he surrenders. Because they had to show that the imperial captain was on his side so they did it in the laziest way possible.
lightsaber fight wise, it felt like a budget constraint to not go harder in that scene. ep 3 production felt really weak for such a pivotal episode. There was also a conscious decision during the sequel trilogy to try to go back more to the OT style of lightsaber fighting where sabers are heavier, because the prequels were so derided at the time, including the floatier fighting. I think you could make this old school type of fight plenty cool though, the throne room scene in TLJ is pretty good tho not a duel. But with this show it feels more like its about budget.
Imagine though if they'd have had it raining hard the entire episode- it would've fit the mood and atmosphere better, it would excuse sloppier lightsaber fighting more, it would make it more believable he could escape, and it would've just been a lot cooler. I think it would've helped with a lot of the issues this episode had
At the end of the day, disney plus shows are really relying heavily on nostalgia and IP and money to carry them without investing in the stuff that makes truly great shows. They're the worst tv at this high level of money, by far.
And it feels a little doomed with Star Wars because the last time Disney let anyone make anything authorial, surprising, anything with a real vision that wasn't stuck in the past, it was the Last Jedi. And the lesson they learned from that movie was 'dont try anything creative, just pump out the nostalgic braindead shit the audience wants'.
Anyway you should try watching Barry if you haven't. Only show on tv rn that might be better than better call saul.

      Thanks for this great comment!
I have a few tiny things I want to point out
      > he sees 3 more stormtroopers he surrenders
I honestly was okay with this, because the first time he also imitated surrender, so I was waiting for the lightsaber to fly out of his belt and an epic showdown, and that was just not needed because of Tia, so I'm fine with it
      > sabers are heavier
this is exactly the problem, BUT I think the sequel trilogy had an okay excuse for it, as there are no real masters to teach them anymore... it's not a GREAT excuse, but it is a passable one... on the other hand, I don't think Obi-Wan is old enough or out of practice enough to be THIS slow... Vader I'm okay with, he was mutilated, and I think there is a reason he does the force choke and general force use more than flashy saber duels... if anything I think it was in fact Vader that forced the writer's hands here, because they didn't like an agile fast Vader, as his iconic "slow walking terror" style had to be respected... I don't even want Obi-Wan and Vader to do it, but they could have Obi-Wan fight Reva (which they probably will, and it will be slow asf, and THEN I'll be proper pissed, as Reva was probably taught by a real Jedi Master when the Republic was still a thing, so she SHOULD know fast fighting)
      > had it raining hard the entire episode
I like that idea, would make the fire Obi-Wan was in feel hotter as well, the rain not even putting it out (and make his face not burned to a crisp even more believeable - not that it isn't anyways)
I agree on everything else you say though and I'll give Barry a look if I can find the time!
      Cheers!

@@GlanceValue oh yeah re fight scenes I read some quote that the show was gonna have some more prequel style fighting... so either that was bullshit and plans changed cus they realized they cant do it, or theyre saving it for the big finale.

Downtrodden top tier jedi that just lost his student to the dark side followed by him (his favored student) to go on an absolute murder spree. That would fuck with a man, and the show should reflect this, it just doesn't. You can't have the darkness that would be in obi wan's mind , aswell as in anakin's mind without this being a pg 16 show, and yet Disney tries, because why throw budget at a thing when you can't have the possible largest reach. It just misses the fucking goalpost. Disney needs to grow some balls and just make a mature star wars show, I am praying for the day Tarantino gets to make a SW movie ;).

Who’s your favorite NEW character? Let me know in the replies! For me it is Tala, the former imperial officer.
EDIT: I made a mistake in the video, I don't know where I got the name Tia from, who is apparently another character in Star Wars that I never heard of. Maybe I read an article pre-release and it was rumored and it got stuck in my head or something, maybe my captions were incorrect. Fixed it in the CC, that's all I can do, it shall remain in the vid as an eternal stain on my reputation.
