It's a code issue creating a bottleneck, if it exceeds that everything will break. They were able to tweak it adding another 100k spots, they were also immediately filled in 5 mins. The first helldivers had around 7k concurrent players roughly, can't imagine the yexpected this amount of success
Servers seem to be fixed too. Last night there was over 400k players on Steam alone and neither me (PS5) or my buddy (PC) had issues getting in. Opened the app and we were immediately on our ship. Game is phenomenal co-op. Try and convince friends to play too!

If it was indeed real time then no lights should appear. In fact if the other ships are actual players then they also should just vanish but they stay around. While I could see the ship positions staying for some reason, if the call ins were indeed real time, they would stop.
Correction. The other ships you see aren't actually other player's ships. They are however a reflection of how many players are active in the area but it's not actually their ships. Think about it, if those were real ships you'd see a constant barrage of stratagems being launched non stop

The other ships in the background over the planet and the action on the player surface are not tied to actual games and players. Its just art direction. You can sometimes see the ship names, and theyre all "SS Liberty". There have been planets with 1k players and planets with 300k players, and the backdrops are the same.

I think while the company really likes to put some attention to detail in their game, I think something like this would just be a little bit overboard. That's for sure some wasted effort if they really spent development resources on this.

pretty sure it's just tied to a percentage i've been on planets with not many people online and there was scarce ships, and on others with tons of players and its a bit more packed but obviously not 1 for 1 players
Aside from the game being fun as hell, the immersiveness is definitely what makes the game so addictive. Everything feels so grounded and authentic to a war/ conflict.

There is SO much detail and love put into this game. The ideas and mechanics are so well thought out. You know some guy thought “wouldn’t this be cool.” And fucking did it
This game is the single best multiplayer experience I have ever had. These little details as well make it so much cooler. For once, we are actually a part of a greater conflict in a game, and it’s real. This better win so many awards.
Also nice detail when you play the mission on a region thats already almost night, you can see the sunset and the map will be dark, cool day and night cycle
I really want the devs to confirm whether or not the distant events viewed from your ship actually correlate to other players actions. Such as when a super destroyer blows up, is that indicative of a current liberation campaign failing or is it directly related to another groups mission failure. Plus, the beams of light on the planet below. I assume they’re just basic background effects and have no connection to real time players using stratagems but I could be wrong.

I like how every time you die, even tho you respawn as the same person in game, story wise you’re a completely different solider taking their place. Really adds to the “this is an unforgiving, real war” vibe. I like the little touches with how reloading without an empty clip causes you to actually discard those remaining bullets forever. I think it adds a lot to the gameplay and a cool little touch of realism.
This is probably one of the top five or even top three best video games ever made. And I don’t even know what the others in front of it would be. This game is just so damn awesome.

I had 19 common samples and 12 rare samples, and was in the ship waiting to leave. Before the last guy entered, a gattling sentry just eviscerated me causing us to lose all of them.
The ships in orbit that fire and blow up are just scenery. The ships in your squad appear though. You can spot the player ships because they have more detailed engines. Plus player ships don't blow up.
I really love it when they go the extra mile and add in these kinds of details, in games where you can call in air strikes or artillery or missile barrages and get to see where it comes from instead of it spawning mid air does wonders for immersion!

Theres no way the red and blue beacons are actual players btw, but just like the landing pods in the distance when you load in are there to sell the fact that we all fight together. And i think they sell it so damn well, genuinely makes you feel some unity with your fellow players.
Fun or helpful fact, when you are doing a solo mission and encounter a radar station. Instead of going back and forth to check the alignment, you can hear a signal on the tower when you aligned it correctly
Also, the only reason why Extraction is a thing is because of Samples. Thats why you can be reinforced even if extraction has been called - to ensure those samples are onboard.
The ships outside and events on the surface or probably just random events that become more common the more players are fighting on the planet, more resource efficient to just do a calculation than do everything live at all times.
In case you don't know, you can still aim and toggle into first person while on the ship. This allows you to shoot out. If you have somebody who looks suspicious while outside the ship, aim down your scope at them. Don't let the traitors catch you lacking now.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this but your character changes every time you die. I mean literally. You don’t respawn in this game and a new Helldiver takes your place. Whenever you login to the game, there’s a cutscene showing your character come out of one of many cryopods meaning there are many other Helldivers on your ship in cryo sleep waiting for their turn to bring managed democracy to the front lines. You can also set your voice to “random” to further emphasize the fact that yes, the Helldiver you were just playing is really actually dead.
I think a game mode where you can run into other squards/team up would be pretty sick. Like a joint strike. Similar to the raids in destiny where 1 team goes into the encounter while the other team has to support them from the outside

The immersiveness for fighting in a giant galactic war is truly unmatched. It's crazy being able to see the fights going around you and joining them

When a ship explodes while you in your ship, another team has failed the mission also no just background touches for the immersion

the detail is amazing, the first shotgun has view ports on either side to see ammo count and they accuratly fill as youu reload or empty as you ufire

Those beams are not the stratagems used by other players. They are decorative. Some of the beams appear in the middle of the ocean
