  • This video may be what YOU wanted to know about TRINIS but were afraid to ask or what a TRINI would never tell you that are the typical characteristics of someone from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Of course, a lot of what you hear in this video will be the subject of both applause and disdain. Take it with a bit of parody, if you will, while I am sure the easily offended will only want to hear positives... but is any group of people perfect? No, and on JB's Man Cave we observe the real, not the fake, and not the illusions. However, keep in mind these are my opinions and are NOT relevant to individual Trinis who do not have these 'traits' as part of what makes them a Trini. Nevertheless, the items covered herein are most definitely the characteristics of MANY Trinis or Tribagonians or people from Trinidad and Tobago that are discussed regularly amongst themselves.
    Yes, I am a "Trini" based on being born in the country of Trinidad and Tobago, but I am sort of an anomaly here simply because of my own life choices. Hence, sometimes you will hear me say in the video "they" or "them" as though I am not a Trini... this is just to say it is a typical way that Trinis may do something but does NOT necessarily fit individual Trinis or myself. However, the trait / characteristic in question my be the norm. Interestingly enough, there is a saying in Trinidad and Tobago where one may refer to themselves as "A true Trini" or in other words the typical Trini that does conform or is involved with all the typical cultural ideals of Trinidad and Tobago.
    Unbeknownst to a lot of my fans and followers many foreigners send me Emails and messages seeking the truth about what Trinis are like because they know I will give them the unvarnished version and not the 'made for tourist' brochure that you can commonly find online. Hence, rather than having to answer each message and Email here is this new video which gives you the most common traits.

    What are your thoughts about some of the pros and cons mentioned in this video about Trinis? Which one do you encounter the most on a daily basis?

    Hey JB , my father was a born Trinidadian and taught us good manners and to respect, and I still think in families you can see the closeness ,as compared to the US where I’m living now - the bad drive & trashing a beautiful country is what I don’t like. My mom, a Norwegian, was big on the environment of Trinidad & did a lot. Thanks for your AMAZING videos 🇹🇹Have a safe & wonderful Carnival whether or not you play mas- all the best from us to you☀️🇹🇹🌺

      Eagle, thanks for sharing your experiences. Sounds like your parents were proactively thinking about the future. As for Carnival, I have enough 'Mas' to contend with each day, do not need any more noise or bacchanal. 😉 That actually reminds me of another aspect of where T&T is heading that I do not like: th-cam.com/video/Y3iZwJ9BLY8/w-d-xo.html

      Camille, yes, unfortunately we have fallen short on a lot of things that makes Trinidad and Tobago look and feel like a different country than might have otherwise been known decades ago.

    JB your pros and cons was hilarious and on point. Because I'm now living in the N.Y. with people passing yuh straight like a full bus even in work, when I get back to Trinidad I'm pleasantly surprised that people greet you good morning, good afternoon. Leaving trash around is a very disgusting habit and a big pet peeve of mine. I see the dirtiness in the caribbean area in Brooklyn compared to other areas. They have picnics in Prospect Park and leave the trash. I don't understand, we did not grow up like that, to me the poorest of neighbors in Trinidad had their place and surroundings clean.

    • @JBsManCave
      @JBsManCave  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Marlene, thank you kindly. It is ashamed that the dirtiness also follows abroad too. As you said, we were brought up to be better than that. Yet, that feeling of "I do not care" is now ripe in ALL sectors of society and just in their surroundings.

    Interesting take. Listening to your presentation, I found that the majority of pro and con traits that you listed, could be associated with many cultures in the world. For example Im in North America and after 1,2,3 years (I dont know anymore) of the global pandemic, I still see people coughing in there hands. Some will even just cough in the air or do it for spite if your wearing a mask. Last part is speculation but happens to often to not go unnoticed. The sitting beside people when there is enough space elsewhere, is another trait I noticed among certain ethnic groups. Thank you for sharing.
    Side note: I would be interested if you feel so inclined, on a video with the different dialect or pronunciation of everyday words and how they differ from other regions around the islands of 🇹🇹 .
    Thank you for your consideration. 🙂

      @@JBsManCave I think that we're very sociable people, talented in any aspects whether it's in food, art , trades, music, fashion which by the way you didn't mention we are very fashionable. The majority of Trinis can cook whether it's male or female. However, you're right about customer service etiquette and the dumping of trash.
