My first sight of this station was in 1956, getting off the Spirit to cross the platform to the night train to Sydney. Our group put all our luggage between the seats in our compartment to fill the gap. This allowed four of us to stretch out across, plus one person in each overhead luggage rack. Yes, we were uni students. Thanks for reviving these memories.
Yes I was wondering about kids sleeping in the luggage racks. Went to a Scout Camp in the mid sixties in the Old VR Red passenger carriages & a couple of the shorter kids slept up there. Looked quite comfortable, they said it was.
Indeed it is but sadly the railway station is almost a "ghost town" compared to the 1970's. It was a very busy place even when no trains were there. The demise of the Daylight, Spirit of Progress and Souhtern Aurora certainly did not help, but the station could have been utilised a lot better than it was and is now. And many safety issues were kept quiet, not safety as far as work or staff was concerned, but the safety near the station. The soil around the railway buildings was actually poisonous, especially near the railway cottages including the old station masters residence. That was kept very quiet back in the day.

Great video. I was last in Albury back in 2002. However, I did pass it again, while on a train trip to Wagga Wagga NSW in 2012.
Thanks.
Albury is quite a big city

Use the station to catch the train to Wang or Melbourne from boarding school in the early 1980s. Remember the Broadgauge train.
Good spot of the steelie, there’s a steamrail Shepparton tour coming up, you heading to that?
No I won't.
Do they bogie exchange that train I’m Melbourne or just swap for the train to Hastings.
