    Do you feel your creativity has been suppressed?

    • @travelguy5982
      @travelguy5982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, especially by American society that is based on capitalism and consumption. Whenever I tell someone that I am a writer and an artist, I sometimes get negative comments like “you are a starving artist,” or “you will never make any money doing that.”

    • @AlexandraFasuloBiz
      @AlexandraFasuloBiz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@travelguy5982 I was always told that! See, I believe art and capitalism can work symbiotically. I just think corporations/corporatism has killed it. I am more so anti-corporation than anti-capitalism!

      @@AlexandraFasuloBiz Yes, art and capitalism can work together especially now in the “gig economy.”

      @@AlexandraFasuloBiz I'm currently 24 yrs old and I think that since 2020 the thing that's been hardest to grapple with is the notion that there are more creative ways to make a living outside of the typical 9-5 box and structure of tradition ( go to college, get a job, work till ur 65 etc). I'm at a point where I'm accepting the fact that I don't have to suppress myself and that it's possible for Me to use my creative skill set, monetize it, and find true fulfillment outside what's considered the norm / traditional.

    You are absolutely right. We are taught to go school, study hard to land a job in corporate America. However, I don't buy into that theory. I love photography and have enjoyed it since I took my first photography class in the 1970s in college and I loved it. I also loved humanities. I did work in an office for several decades and hated it. I am much happier with my camera and out and about making memories through photos.

    Another thing I noticed during the pandemic and lockdown when people worked from home or had more time on their hands many people turned to various forms of creativity. Creativity helps heal the soul. Some people took up learning an instrument or craft kits or learning ipad procreate, etc. when “time” stood still and it was not the corporate hustle & bustle people got to tap into that side that helped them heal. Not everyone was like that but as an artist I noticed it and I loved it. It was a small window in time. People were using problem solving skills and tapping into that creative side of their minds. Even with crazy zoom calls with bday parties etc. that took creativity. 😊❤

    I want to add if anyone has not yet read the “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, they should.This is the book that inspired Elizabeth Gilbert and multiple others in their careers. It is a fantastic book and I cannot recommend it enough.

    Great video. I experience the “flow state” whenever I am painting. I wasn’t sure what it was called, but this is as accurate a description as I have ever heard. Thanks for putting it into words.

    I totally agree! And honestly it takes allowing yourself to have " Leisure time" ... tur ing things off and being bored... in the past .....the difference and why they had such amazing imagination is they had the time.

And so im doin my bachelor's in energy and environmental engineering the sad thing is i dont have anymore positive move from my family so they're tryin to pull me into irrelevant tech companies or jobs. I've to fight over it with freelancing skills and you're the one i headed to ❤ !!!

    I'm pretty confident neuroscience can explain and prove the sources of human creativity by analyzing the human brain and its potential. I didn't like the fact that you had to dive in other topics like dark matter to explain the "flow state" which I'm pretty aware of. ...but that's just me :)

    Honestly some of the people have been drawing painting for years so they had tons of practice. People are intimidated thinking you should pick something up quickly but it takes practice sometimes years of practice. Many people were suppressed by their parents or teachers because they thought you’ll be a starving artist. The mindset holds people back. 😢 like a musician practices and they improve. It takes time but be open minded and don’t expect instant results. It’s not Amazon prime. 🤦‍♀️

    Alexandra, can you recommend a usb interface soundboard for use with creating podcasts and videos? I work as a freelance writer and a client I'm currently working with has asked me to start doing voice over work. I could use my current computers but she wants a more professional, studio-quality sound. What equipment do you use? Cheers, keep up the awesome work!!

    I want to hear the things that you wanted to say about being creative and accessing that side of the universe but you couldn't fit into this video.
    Sometimes when I'm learning how to do a thing I can find the skills online but I don't understand how people think about the subject.
    Isn't it useful sometimes to borrow someone's frame of mind so that you can learn how professional people think?

    it's definitely a special skill. Being creative isn't but artistry is separate from that. not everyone who draws or makes music wants to be an artist.

      Tell that to Bob Ross who was a military man most of his life then after he retired out if the military he learned art later in life. Anyone can learn to be a creative but it takes practice and not many people have the patience in our gotta have it now society. It takes practice. Some of us have been drawing since age 4 but some take it up at age 30 and rediscover themselves again.

    Sorry but can't agree, yes, you can write, paint and make music and have a platform to distribute and reach people like never before, the gatekeepers are gone, you can create whatever your heart desires, however, are you up to people that are truly gifted? What about those 5 year old kids with perfect Tone and pitch? Raw, natural born ,undisputed talent Is out there (can you be "elite" for just being you?) I get your point but Lets keep out feet on the ground.
