The power of the Word of God. It tells me of a Creator that loves his creation. It comforts a broken heart. It teaches me about the goodness and promises of God. It’s God’s roadmap to lead me on this journey called life. It also convicts, and shows me that I am a sinner, and I need a Savior. It tells me of a Savior that loves me so much that he was willing to suffer and die on an old rugged cross so I could be saved, and have eternal life with Him. It also shows me what I have to look forward to as His child.
Amen, Amen Amen, Preacher. I was dead in my sin (Eph2) and when The Word of God was preached in the power of The Holy Ghost, It's sprang forth New Life in me (2Cor5:17). Thanks be unto God!!! For His Word and the power of it.... Thank you brother for the teaching and preaching of The Word of God ❤❤❤....
That looks like a beautiful church! And it's so big!! I would stick around to hear more of you too, Brother Bagwell! "That the Word of God would be glorified!" Amen and Amen!
Yes hearing is believing! And hearing along with explanation of the vocabulary is understanding. Thank you for the time and effort you sacrifice for our benefit. *Amen Brother Bagwell*
Watched and enjoyed. Great class and great verse on the Word of God! I’m thankful for “God’s good grace” the fact that He allowed us to have His precious Word. Amen, Bro. Mike.
It is hard for us to truly understand the power of the Word of God. It might take us the rest of eternity! Looking forward to that! That I might know him. Phillippians 3:10-14 10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. 12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Excellent study, Dr. Bagwell! The Word of God has power. See Psalm 138:2. God has exalted His Word above His name. How did the Gospel come to the city of Thessalonica? Paul has been imprisoned, persecuted and had to leave Philippi. He then came to Thessalonica. That is where God's Word took root in the hearts of the people. (Acts 17) There was a synagogue of the Jews there and Paul went in into the synagogue and for 3 Sabbath days he met and reasoned with them from the Scriptures. Some of the Jews got saved and accompanied Paul and Silas. There are other God -fearing Greeks who attended the synagogue, and they believed as well. In Acts 17:10 we see that it got so dangerous that Paul and Silas were sent away to Berea. When he first came to Thessalonica, persecution soon developed. See 1 Thess. 1:5-6. Paul never asked anyone to just follow him but to follow him as he followed the Lord. "Thanks"/εὐχαριστέω/eucharisteō/good grace. It is God's good grace that sustains them. "Grace" is "charis" and "joy" is "chara". Where God's grace is there will be joy. "Without ceasing"/διαλείπτως/adialeiptōs/not forgetting, not leaving behind, not forsaking. Paul is saying that he thanks God for them without quitting to continue to give thanks. "Without ceasing" is found 4 times in the Bible: Romans 1:9, 1 Thess. 1:3, 1 Thess. 2:13 & 1 Thess. 5:17. Paul did not write these words to the Colossians etc. He wrote this 3 of 4 times to the Thessalonians. They continued to help Paul and pray for him. They have stamina. Stamina is the ability to sustain prolonged physical or mental effort. They stuck with it, had determination and dependability. This comes from a Latin word that means "threads". "Because"/ὅτι/hoti/since or for. "Received"/παραλαμβάνω/paralambanō/to reach out and personalize it, believe it to be true. You will either receive or reject the Word of God when you hear it. It is to receive it intellectually first and then to believe in it. "Word"/λόγος/logos/logic, how one thinks. This Book tells us how God thinks. Paul says it is the mind of Christ. Are we going to believe the logic of the philosopher, the educator, the unsaved politician etc. or believe God? The Bible is how God thinks. "Logos" comes from the Greek word "lego" which means to choose or select. However, God's wisdom goes far beyond the Bible as He has not written everything in the Book. He has written in the Book what He has chosen for us to know. He has given us the knowledge about heaven and hell that he wants us to know. "Heard"/ἀκοή/akoē. We get God's Word in our hearts by hearing it. Romans 10:17. We are getting away in America from hearing the Word of God. Everything today has to be entertainment. "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear". Scientists tell us that when we hear something we hear it twice in order to assimilate it. We hear it first in the inner ear and the parts vibrate. Then, there is an auditory nerve that leads to our brains. It translates what we hear into words. We hear it externally and internally. It is hearing and personalizing what we hear by faith that leads us to the place that we are born again. "Received"/δέχομαι/dechomai/to receive with joy and delight. "Truth"/ἀληθῶς/alēthōs/if it hits you then you will never forget it. "Effectually worketh"/ἐνεργέω/energeō/to get into us and energize us. It will energize you to be saved, to be faithful, to preach God's Word, to stand up under persecution etc. See Hebrews 4. The Word of God is powerful or dynamite. Wonderful study! Thank you so much for these awesome lessons!
Thank you once again for the lessons. This is by far the best class I've ever been a part of. 👏 Have a blessed revival.
