Yes, they are a very popular idol group and have been well known worldwide, but later Kpop fans can't comprehend why they remain such a respected group despite everything that has happened to them. This may be a bit long but bear with me and my English. K-pop idols, as you all know, are groups formed by entertainment companies. The phenomenon began in the mid-90s with H.O.T., the very first idol group. This new, exciting, and fresh music and approach captured the attention of the public, especially tweens, teens, and young women. Its popularity led to the emergence of many more idol groups. However, as more idols debuted, people began to notice some negative aspects of the industry. Companies often prioritized visuals over talent, leading to widespread lipsyncing, some lackluster performances and music wasn't even great. Additionally, everything related to the idols had to be curated by the company, that includes making music. Such control led to some idols short career lifespan. While others were severely overwork to milk on their popularity but ended up getting paid poorly. Then came BIGBANG, a non visually pleasing group in 2006. Heavily criticized for looking normal, like a bunch of ordinary kids. However, as people observed their lives as trainees, they became impressed by G-Dragon's compositions, songwriting and the group's less to no external supervision. Their music, primarily in the hip-hop genre, was a bold choice for idols, but they embraced it because they were passionate about creating the music they like. In the idol industry, a trainee and a rookie getting that kind of freedom is very much unheard of. And to top it all off, their sample music were so good that even locals wanted to download it and asked to be added in their album. For the first time in SK, teens to adults, male and female were admiring this one group. Of course, even with that support, some people thought they won't last long since their visuals weren't great. But as the group keep making hits every year, and their following keeps growing locally and internationally, it was clear BIGBANG wasn't going away. Talented next generation, who once avoided idol auditions, started lining up to become idols. This shift helped elevate K-pop into a desirable profession. Don't feel bad. G-Dragon is someone I have to catch up on as well. I do know him by rep. Big Bang is legendary, and G-Dragon has been the behind-the-scenes writer/producer of many others' songs and mvs. He's acknowledged in Kpop as one of its founders and continuing creative forces.
Bigbang a 5- man boygroup is the Kings of Kpop that went to a very long hiatus in 2017 when they went into the military. And after 2 of its members got into scandals never had perforned on stage for so long. The other idols grew up listening to Bigbang songs during their training years basically. Thats where their hype were coming from.

BigBang is the reason of why the recent idols want to become an idol. One of them is BTS. They are a big fan of BigBang ❤. Even Actors and Actress not only in Korea, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton they are fan of BigBang. So, yes BigBang is huge and already well known globally even before the internet era is unlimited. A genius that comes every 100 years. He is the reason many idols were inspired to become an idol. He is the idol of idols, and yes, his voice is unique, “One Of A Kind”. Taeyang is the main vocalist and was known worldwide (before social media was a thing) even before GD because of his song Wedding Dress. Yes he did release a song Vibe featuring Jimin and also Shoong featuring Lisa of Blackpink. He was also the first to do a solo concert. Daesung is the power voice of bb, he is huge in Japan. He currently has a very popular show on TH-cam called Zip Daesung where many top artists are guests. T.O.P is currently not with bb but you can hear his voice in the backtrack of their MAMA performance of Bang Bang Bang and Fantastic Baby. He is the first underground rapper to become an idol and the first deep voice making it a standard for future groups to have a deep voice like Felix 😊. You can currently see him on Squid Games 2, he plays Thanos with the purple hair. We hope he comes back to bb one day. Btw, GD and Taeyang are two of the most successful soloists in Kpop history (on top of being part of the top band for a decade.) It's been said about Big Bang that if you took N'Sync and made each member as talented, famous and successful as Justin Timberlake, you have Big Bang. I literally chocked on my coffee when she said she had no idea. knowing she was in for a ride.. I found you from this reaction video. They're such a big thig because they changed KPop, everything you see today is as it is due to their influence. They are the primers other groups use. After reading everyone's comments I actually felt bad not knowing who GD was. But only hearing KPOP for the first time at the start of 2024 and that being BTS, I never looked into older groups so I had no idea. To name a few: 1) GD invented 1st ever group lightstick. Vip's BangBong 2) GD started changing up whole looks (like hair trends) to fit album promotion concepts. 3) Subunits in kpop & having solo careers while being part of a group 4)GD first idol to actively write & produce own music & not take it from company producers. 5) Most importantly bringing in the hip-hop, rap in the idol music scene. Before GD & TOP, idol groups focused on vocals. But now having a rapline is a necessity. But still now in SK, BigBang is the only idol group respected by the Korean hiphop community. 6) GD connected k-pop artists or rather Korean celebrities as a whole with high end brand endorsements, faces of brands etc. GD's relationship with Chanel & Nike are all iconic. You'll also find every alternative k-celeb donning the GD's collaboration with Nike shoes. That brings me to GD's starpower. If you see the fancam to this performance & idol reactions, you'll see people legit fainting & passing out. Zb1's, Woozi & Hoshi, DEX's reaction all went viral for how startstruck they all seemed. He then spent around 5 years as trainee in SM but he fell in love with hip hop music and SM seems not the right place for him so he move to YG and spent another 6 years as trainee to finally debut as BigBang ❤️. TOP has been keeping his distance from BigBang because he probably doesn't want to bring the group down, especially after his past mistakes had such a big impact on them. When “Still Life”came out, he got a lot of harsh criticism from the media. Everyone knows TOP is really sensitive, so taking on such a tough role in Squid Game shows a lot of courage. I'm really glad he's confronting his past, and I hope it helps him move forward and start fresh.

BigBang is the reason of why the recent idols want to become an idol. One of them is BTS. They are a big fan of BigBang ❤. Even Actors and Actress not only in Korea, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton they are fan of BigBang. So, yes BigBang is huge and already well known globally even before the internet era is unlimited. Their song everwhere even before Spotify exist. I know them since their debut even i'm not Korean. 😄
Me too. I don't even know when I became a Big Bang fan. I used to be so addicted to watching the MV Last Farewell that when the internet started, I had to search for the movie, and then I realized it was just a music video 🤣

A lot of idols here were once teenager growing up watching g dragon and big bang. They idolize them since they are a legendary group. Even bts had members looked up to big bang
It truly then had to be amazing for those idols to see them perform live

G dragon isn't just your favorite kpop idol's favorite kpop idol. He's the architect of modern kpop. So much of what's unique about kpop wasn't developed by Kpop's huge entertainment companies marketing departments but from G dragon and BigBang being innovative.
G dragon designed the first lightstick in kpop himself.
G dragon was the first idol producer/songwriter and BigBang was the first self produced group with creative control of their music, image and stages.
BigBang were the first group to release EPs and called them mini albums.
BigBang were the first group where members were allowed to do solo projects but still not leaving the group.
G dragon not only was the first kpop idol to become a fashion brand ambassador and be invited to Paris Fashion week but the first Asian person to do so.
BigBang was the first group with a RapLine.
BigBang were the first to dye their hair bright unusual colors and change the color for a comeback.
This was the first time in 8 years that G dragon perfromed solo and with BigBang and BigBang's future was uncertain. Everyone just assume they were done. This showed that even though they lost some members they're not gone.

Why was that performance at the 2024 MAMA such a big deal? People and artists have been waiting 7 long years for their comeback and it finally happened.
They are 2nd generation so that makes them mid 30’s of age, BTS are 3rd generation they are around 30 and SKZ are 4th generation and are mid 20 years old.
I’ll let you do your own research on G-Dragon (GD), let’s just say he’s the leader, composer, producer, singer and main rapper of bb, he’s the Michael Jackson of Korea. A genius that comes every 100 years. He is the reason many idols were inspired to become an idol. He is the idol of idols, and yes, his voice is unique, “One Of A Kind”.
Taeyang is the main vocalist and was known worldwide (before social media was a thing) even before GD because of his song Wedding Dress. Yes he did release a song Vibe featuring Jimin and also Shoong featuring Lisa of Blackpink. He was also the first to do a solo concert.
Daesung is the power voice of bb, he is huge in Japan. He currently has a very popular show on TH-cam called Zip Daesung where many top artists are guests.
T.O.P is currently not with bb but you can hear his voice in the backtrack of their MAMA performance of Bang Bang Bang and Fantastic Baby. He is the first underground rapper to become an idol and the first deep voice making it a standard for future groups to have a deep voice like Felix 😊. You can currently see him on Squid Games 2, he plays Thanos with the purple hair. We hope he comes back to bb one day.
The fandom is called VIP, we are the first to be given a name and the first to have light sticks (yellow crown). Guess who created and designed the first lightstick? GD, he wanted to be able to differentiate his fans from other fandoms. Now lightsticks are a must.

Oh wow thank you so much for this info. GD seems amazing. I actually felt bad not knowing who he is. Ever since watching this performance so many GD things are popping up on my YT home page that I have been watching to see who GD is and also I have been watching a few episodes of Zip Daesung and he is hilarious and so full of energy, I love it. I will investigate further thank you again but I think I must look at some of the old songs and see who they were 7 years ago

My understanding is G Dragon was the frontman for a YG group called Big Bang that debuted in 2006. Big Band was a 5 member group with members G Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, Seungri, and T.O.P. Seungri retired from the band in March 2019 and T.O.P. left in May 2023, leaving G Dragon Taeyang and Daesung remaining in the group. they were knowned as the "Kings of KPOP" that helped spread KPOP music globally. G Dragon has composing credits for Babymonster's title track 'Drip' MV. He composed Asa and Ruka's rap lyrics and his influence is in most everything YG.

Untitled - 2014 was a number one song for G. Dragon (his last) - when this started playing at MAMA there were a lot of tears in the audience. Atypically, it was a ballad - and GD is one of the greatest rappers in Kpop history. Btw, GD and Taeyang are two of the most successful soloists in Kpop history (on top of being part of the top band for a decade.) It's been said about Big Bang that if you took N'Sync and made each member as talented, famous and successful as Justin Timberlake, you have Big Bang. Btw, Big Bang created the lightstick (something that became common for pretty much every group in Kpop) - and you pretty much see every other Kpop idol in the audience cheering on the Kings of Kpop.

There are one member who left the group in 2023 due to some issues and the 5fth member too… so big bang are basically the kings of k-pop all of them especially g dragon because they debuted when k-pop was nothing there was not bts not anything they inspired every k-pop idol ever they inspired the idols to go on world tours and produce music thanks to big bang now we have k-pop and the members are “ g dragon the leader taeyang TOP he is the rapper and his deep voice was amazing he is also on squid game season 2 and theres daesung and someone we shouldn’t be mentioning but he is a member too who is seungri “ also the idols werent expecting this is because they finally reunited after 5 years taeyang went to do his solo music daesung has his own show top left korea and seungri i cant even explain seungri… while g dragon disappeared for 7 years he only went for brand shows so yeah the idols were shocked because they saw their childhood and their inspiration group finally reunited and the members are 35 years old i swear they are like michael jackson to other idols especially g dragon his flow his rapping his iconic fashion the way gd is the most famous is because he is THE idol i swear he owns k-pop

I literally chocked on my coffee when she said she had no idea. knowing she was in for a ride.. I found you from this reaction video. They're such a big thig because they changed KPop, everything you see today is as it is due to their influence. They are the primers other groups use. Many of the other entertainers pursued their careers because of BB. I'm sure others will elucidate.
After reading everyone's comments I actually felt bad not knowing who GD was. But only hearing KPOP for the first time at the start of 2024 and that being BTS, I never looked into older groups so I had no idea. But with everyone educating me, I'm glad someone asked me to react to this so now I know. I can't wait to look into more of GD solo's and also BigBang

Here's one big comment abt GD's impact on k-pop because every trend that is uniquely kpop, there's a high chance it came out from BigBang's or GD's brain. To name a few:
1) GD invented 1st ever group lightstick. Vip's BangBong
2) GD started changing up whole looks (like hair trends) to fit album promotion concepts.
3) Subunits in kpop & having solo careers while being part of a group
4)GD first idol to actively write & produce own music & not take it from company producers.
5) Most importantly bringing in the hip-hop, rap in the idol music scene. Before GD & TOP, idol groups focused on vocals. But now having a rapline is a necessity. But still now in SK, BigBang is the only idol group respected by the Korean hiphop community.
6) GD connected k-pop artists or rather Korean celebrities as a whole with high end brand endorsements, faces of brands etc. GD's relationship with Chanel & Nike are all iconic. You'll also find every alternative k-celeb donning the GD's collaboration with Nike shoes.
That brings me to GD's starpower. If you see the fancam to this performance & idol reactions, you'll see people legit fainting & passing out. Zb1's, Woozi & Hoshi, DEX's reaction all went viral for how startstruck they all seemed. This was like a renaissance performance and you'll find GD/BB fanboys & fangirls everywhere. Among most vocal GD fanboys are:
1) BTS Jungkook (he cites GD's Heartbreaker performance as his reason for wanting to perform),
2) Ateez Hongjoong (he cites GD's A Boy),
3) Svt Hoshi & S.Coups (Coups' stage name comes from GD's album Coup d'etat lmao).
To stay this relevant in an industry that changes so much yearly is crazy no? GD impact in SK (GD's 2013 song Crooked was constantly played at the recent political rallies) & even Asia is huge. He keeps inspiring idols even now, right till younger gens like Treasure & Babymonster.

He then spent around 5 years as trainee in SM but he fell in love with hip hop music and SM seems not the right place for him so he move to YG and spent another 6 years as trainee to finally debut as BigBang ❤️. Hope you'll enjoy their music. Their stage performance always gave me some great energy 🔥

TOP has been keeping his distance from BigBang because he probably doesn't want to bring the group down, especially after his past mistakes had such a big impact on them. When “Still Life”came out, he got a lot of harsh criticism from the media. Everyone knows TOP is really sensitive, so taking on such a tough role in Squid Game shows a lot of courage. I'm really glad he's confronting his past, and I hope it helps him move forward and start fresh.
