Rest in Peace, Dan. I am certainly fortunate to have had the opportunity to see you perform live.

It's been four years since I first posted this. Almost 30 thousand views now. I thank you all for your participation in keeping Dan's spirit alive in this world that desperately needs his lost spirit. As far as the guy in the beginning goes, no conspiracy. He is the interviewer and we needed him to sit in prior to Dan's arrival so that we could properly light the room. DV3002.

I was lucky enough to see Dan 17 times over his career. I am also a seasoned musician and out of 47 years of attending numerous concerts in all genres of music. Dan was the best sounding musician I have ever heard. Rather it be with the band, or, by himself, NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE SOUNDED AS GOOD AS DAN!!! Best interview of Dan I have ever seen!!! Thank you!!!

Mike, I think you beat me. i saw him about 15 times the first time being at Carnegie Hall in NYC back in, I think it was 1979. He opened with Netherlands. what a night!! Like you I've seen quite a few concerts and I completely agree, Dan is without question, a stand out. No one else's music has impacted me the way he has.

What an amazing artist Dan was. He was a poet, a true musician, a sage and inspired man. I can't imagine my life without Dan's music. I, too, have walked alone in "the lofty San Juans" and Wild Places was one of my favorite albums.

Wonderfully intelligent and talented man! I met him in the '70's and jammed with him in Nashville at a little hole in the wall bar on Music Row. We lost him way too soon! :(

So bummed!!! How did I miss this??? I have always been a 'huge fan' of his music from the 70's. His music flowed from the heart on many everyday issues we all have or will deal with. His voice needed no band or musical group to hold him, he could stand alone with his velvet smooth voice and rock you to sleep, a cappella or just acoustic guitar, even on a stage. His songwriting is up in my top ten favorite (Carol King, James Taylor) songwriters of all time. I will so miss this man's spirit and contributions to music! So sad.

As a young ten year old girl growing up in Western KY and around horses, I can clearly remember the first time a song on the radio made me cry. It was upon hearing "Run for the Roses". To this day Dan's music has a precious mark in my life. Thank you for the awakening to such a beautiful form of art.

Awesome!!! Found this on December 16th-3 years since Dan passed. Bittersweet to say the least. He was so animated and so full of life!! And like others have said--a very wise man. Always admired how Dan didnt fold to commercialism-making his music more honest-from his creative soul. And those eyes-oh my!!! Make my heart melt!!!! Sure wish Dan was still with us,,,,,,

Dan Fogelberg's music has been a part of my life since I was a young teen. I am now almost 52 years old and am now just really deeply appreciating him. I remember when he passed away I was very saddened, but the more time that passes, the sadder it seems to me. Probably because I realize all the times I had a chance to see him in concert, and just took time for granted. I did however realize as a young teen, his music was very heart and soul felt. My first official job was as a typist for Aetna insurance agency, and I remember being given his home insurance policy to type. Just the summary in the use of the home deepened my admiration and image of him. Sorry to ramble. Its just nice to see people still getting into his music.
Been playing "Hard to say", over and over again, and discover more pretty much every time I hear it. I have always loved the line " like why each time the sky begins to snow you cry". That line alone caused me to fall in love with the song the first time I heard it, and I love it even more now.
Thank you for your posting the video

Back to watch once more! Dan's eyes at the very beginning when the interview said something about Arsenio...funny!! Could almost see Dan balk at the interviewers ineptness! Dan was very articulate and passionate about his music. He certainly did like diversity as his own music proved with the many genre he explored so well. I am glad he stuck to his guns and did his music his own way, never conforming. I think Dan was comfortable in the amount of popularity he always had. He was a bit too private for the superstardom trail and seemed to pull back when he was heading that way. It irks me when his music is dissed..certainly those people never bothered to really listen!!! I am proud to be a Dan fan for since the mid 70's when 8 first discovered his music! He is and will always be my favorite!

(This is my 4th 'Reply'... can't help it! I'm a Dan freak. Anyway I love this interview, Lin Bell, 'cuz it's so revealing. We can see alot of different emotions in his face, not to mention some kind of strange things like when he wiped his mouth and then looked at it.

I first heard Dan in 1976 in Maine while visiting friends who had moved there. It was such inspiring music. I remember they had a piano in this one house and they let me play it. I played Netherlands. Beautiful.

One of the great songwriters who had the insight what was really going on. Extremely talented man who wrote some of the best lyrics I've ever heard, both romantic songs and songs that touched on a political or environmental issue. Like many great singers/groups he has been falsely labeled by the shallow music industry (as he points out the shallowness in the video) and doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

Dan's lyrics have formed the backdrop of my adult life (college and on...) and I find myself saying things like "I miss him." Having never met him that might sound a bit stalkerish, but he and his words and music have been a part of my life for 30+ years. It's heartbreaking that he was taken from us at such a young age, but he has left an incredible legacy behind.

In this innerview- - - he says, just another talk show- - -. That really says it all for me as far as his popularity. He never really cared for "self promotion" except for on stage. And except for that was a very private person. I lived in Boulder for a while, Netherland wasn't that far up the mountain. Although he had moved by then, the people that I talked to said he was always, quiet, almost shy and unasuming. Just a regular guy. No suprise there huh!?

Thank you so much for posting he did so little interviews you are real lucky! I am a huge Fogelberg fan. I am a life long musician owning all of Dans music. He inspired me to play all my own instruments and accompany myself while playing live or recording my own songs! So I started playing guitar at 11, piano at 19 and was a drum major in college. I also play bass guitar and harmonica. I love you and your music Dan you are so missed!

From a number of interviews I've seen, I get the impression that Dan didn't particularly like doing interviews. He kind of bristled when the interviewer incorrectly named Arsenio Hall's show rather than the Tonight Show where Dan had done a guest spot. He often seemed like he couldn't wait until the interview was over.
With that said, thank God for TH-cam where these interviews can be seen.

This is AWESOME !! Can't believe gems like these keep popping up - thank you so much for this. The close-ups of Dan's eyes are just stunning! Jean's comment about the colour changing is easy to understand. Need to listen to this a few more times to take in all he's said - a man full of soul, so greatly missed.
